The Friday Five

Happy Friday from 30k feet! I’m wrapping up this post en route to a bachelorette weekend to celebrate my sister’s wedding next month. #aintechnologygrand Pop over to InstaGram or Facebook to see where we landed if you want. Here’s a random roundup for this Friday Five.

1) I’m wearing this uber-comfy, but still pulled-together, outfit for traveling. I swear this dress feels like pajamas…it’s lightweight so I don’t overheat waiting for the captain to turn on the air, but stay covered when he decides to turn it on arctic blast. Honestly, are there only two temperatures on an airplane?!

I managed to pack four days worth of stylish outfits in a single carry-on (see my tips here and here)…I’ll post some on InstaGram in the next few days, but will share here soon, too.

travel uniform

2) You know that I participated in the {One Room Challenge} with 19 other bloggers every Wednesday (see the complete list here), but did you know almost 150 other talented bloggers linked up with Linda on Thursdays? I’m only about half way through the list of pure eye-candy, but here are some of my favorites so far…

3) North Texas has gone from drought to drowning in the last month…seriously, I’m checking Pinterest on how to DIY an ark. We started out thinking it was great and saying things like, ‘Oh yes, we really needed this rain!’ Now I’m just over it, and ready for hot, dry Summer! World Market’s new outdoor collection isn’t making it any easier…I’m ready for picnics and backyard decorating! Just click each pic for item link…fancy, right?!

4) So of course all that Summer wishful thinking got me dreaming of swimsuits, cover-ups, and cute pool/beach bags. I prefer to have a cover-up that passes for street clothes so you can transition easily without being totally exposed. I have these exact flip-flops, and the brand is hands-down my very favorite…so squishy!

ready for summer

Same goes for the guys…Mr. SP wears board shorts that look like regular clothes when paired with a shirt. I’ve got him hooked on Havianas, too. He’s had one pair for 5 years…those suckers last forever! I think I may snag this cap for myself.

Men's swim

5) Okay, so I started out pretty casual about this whole ‘Top 25 Finalist’ thing in Redbook’s Real Women Style Awards…just shocked flattered to be included. But in the last few days, a couple of the other nominees have launched some kind of intense campaign, and they are waaaay ahead of me!

So now my competitive nature has kicked in, and I want it!! Or at least I want to know I gave it a good Texas-try. My mom’s daily vote isn’t getting it done. 😉 So if you’re a fan of my style and inspired by the style posts, then please, please, please hop over and vote for me. #Illbeyourbestfriend It’s super simple…just scroll down and click my pic. Once it opens, click the little gray heart in the bottom right corner…and done!

Thank you so, so much, and happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

I can’t thank you enough for the excitement and encouragement you expressed over the One Room Challenge! You really helped pump me up, and I’m eager to show you more progress. So far I haven’t hit any major roadblocks, but I’m sure that’ll change.

Thanks to a too-good-to-be-true airfare special, I surprised my daughter with a quick trip to Nashville for the long weekend, so we’re having some girl time with our best friends here. And of course I’ll get my hair done too, since my friend happens to be a stylist-extraordinaire! After a year of Mr. SP doing my color (oh yes he does), she’s got her work cut out. #oops

Here’s the latest ramblings for today’s Friday Five…

1) I was pretty smitten with the latest finds in my Look for Less, and realized they came together to make a darn cute outfit. I thought it’d be fun to see them, and their total prices, side-by-side.

Hi Sugarplum | The Look for Less
High:  Dress  |  Clutch  |  Sandals  |  Earrings
Low:  Dress  |  Clutch  |  Sandals  |  Earrings

2) The darling and talented Shannon of Burlap & Lace just returned from an amazing trek through Europe, and I was honored to be part of her Take Five Series while they were gone. Hop over and check out my celebrity crush, favorite artists, and childhood style. While you’re there, make sure to see the amazing gallery wall disguising her TV!

TAKE FIVE WITH HI SUGARPLUM

3) Heather at The Decor Fix has a great series, The Quick Fix, where bloggers weigh in on their go-to tips for easily sprucing up a space, and share a little Q & A. I’ve picked up so many new ideas, and was honored to add my two-cents, as well. While you’re there, make sure to check out Heather’s must-read, How to Style Bookcases.

Hi Sugarplum | Quick Fix

4) Apparently I’ve been quite the floozy lately, because I also appeared in the pages of Victoria, of A Subtle Revelry’s, new book, Materially Crafted: A DIY Primer for the Design-Obsessed. It’s a great book, chock full of fun and clever DIYs, and I was honored to have her feature our daughter’s Cheery Highboy and Herringbone Basket projects. #lookmaIminabook!!! I love seeing bloggers thrive and reach their dreams and goals, so I’m especially thrilled for Victoria!

Hi Sugarplum | Materially Crafted book

5) Remember my ‘How to Transition to Fall’ post, featuring my simple formula for transitioning to the cooler temperatures? I’m working on a similar one with tips on how to easily adapt your wardrobe for Spring…this is pretty much my uniform this time of year. And these sandals are surprisingly chic and comfy!

Hi Sugarplum | Spring Chic

This tee/scarf/lightweight jacket outfit formula is already in heavy rotation…it’d be cute with this fun scarf and my favorite jean jacket, too. Oh, last thing…I have an upcoming occasion that calls for a festive and dressy-dress…this one has been on my wish list for years, what do you think? It’s more than I usually spend, so I wonder if it’s worth it. Happy Easter weekend, lovebugs!

Pssst…we’re celebrating Easter at my sister-in-law’s this year, so I didn’t set a table or do any crafts, but you can check my Holidays tab for past year’s projects if you’re looking for ideas!

The Friday Five

Happy Friday the 13th! Are you superstitious about this day? I think it’s kind of fun when the calendar falls this way…unless I’m flying. I’d rather not fly on Friday the 13th!

I am beyond excited for the weekend…our first in ages when we weren’t painting, packing or moving. Of course we’re still totally covered up in boxes, but I’m having so much fun unpacking and finding new homes for everything. I can’t wait to just putter around enjoying the house.

We’ve all adapted to the new space pretty seamlessly…like the house was just waiting for us. Babygirl is the only one struggling a bit with the change…she doesn’t like sleeping upstairs away from us. We’ve resorted to bribery to get her to stay in bed all night! Any other tips?!

1) I dropped by Nordstrom this week, and audibly gasped when I spotted this fringed cross body bag. (A literal gasp is my indicator of how much I really want something…so of course I scooped it up.) It’s the right combination of boho and luxe, and the perfect size for stashing a full-size wallet, phone and glasses for traveling, and weekends. I also couldn’t resist the colors of this blouse…I don’t know anyone who doesn’t look good in blues. Nordstrom is also having a killer clearance sale…these earrings and boots are included!

boho chic

Blouse | Distressed Jeans | Fringe Crossbody Bag
Riding Boots | Tassel Bracelet | Emerald Drop Earrings

2) Being a blogger, you’d think I’d always have my camera with me…but it’s usually my phone that documents our life. In fact, most of my favorite pictures are on InstaGram. My sister sent me the cutest set of little square magnets for Christmas from Sticky9, each with photos of us from her account. They look adorable on the side of our fridge, and make me happy each time I catch a glimpse. I just ordered a set of square prints to keep on the coffee table, and am thinking of making a tablet cover, too. What do you do with your InstaGram pics?

Hi Sugarplum | Sticky9 Prints

3) I love to add a little pretty to my desktop, and the Fabulous Kelly always creates such stylish and chic options. She created these leopard patterns for Valentine’s day…get your free screensaver download here.

4) Remember my Look-for-Less Pendants we hung over the Breakfast Bar (see them in action here)? Well, I stumbled across another great option in one of my recent 87 trips to Home Depot! I’ve long been a fan of the Jonathan Adler ‘Ventana’ chandelier…but ain’t nobody got time money for those! (Or I don’t, anyway.) West Elm has a similar version, but it’s pricey, too!

Anyway…I spotted one by Hampton Bay at Home Depot with very similar lines. It’s normally priced at $234, but for some reason, it was marked down to $120 in-store. And since only the floor model remained, I got greedy and asked for an additional discount (yes, I’m that person). So basically I scored that puppy for $106, and pre-assembled! I’m thinking a little black and gold spray paint will have it looking reeeeeeally similar to my Adler crush. And I won’t be $900 poorer. What do you think?

Hi Sugarplum | Look for Less Chandeliers

5) One of the most-asked questions in my #SugarplumStyle posts is about my jeans…because obviously, I’m a fan of them. My favorite brand of late has been Vigoss at Nordstrom, and I have several different styles. Some indicate you should size up or down, but I just order my normal size in them all, and appreciate the looser ones on some days (Taco Tuesday), and the tighter ones on others (date night). I have a small waist and ‘ample’ bootie, but they don’t create the dreaded waist gap. A few pair are a tad tight on my ‘ample’ calves, but stretch out after wear. I live in the distressed ones, and these new flap-pocket style.

I have a hard time coughing up more than $100 for jeans, so these fit that bill, too! What are your favorite jeans? Do you spend a lot? I only have one pair of ‘designer’ jeans, and I scored those at the Anniversary Sale! #cheapskate

c // Gray Tee (similar) | Plaid Infinity Scarf Booties (similar) | Watch | Bracelet
f // Striped Hoodie Pullover | Plaid Shirt (similar)

I just added this lace tank to my cart (in both cream and black, oops!). The black will be so cute with white jeans and colorful pumps this Summer, and the cream will layer under most anything. Hello, $16!? This dress is too cute for words, too. Happy Valentine weekend, lovebugs, I hope it’s full of love and chocolate!

I don't pay more than $60 for jeans. When I went to London my luggage was temporarily lost and my Dad bought me a pair of uber expensive jeans and they barely lasted a year until they fell apart. The Friday Five

It’s Friday…Holla!! Another week has flown by! I just realized we move exactly two weeks from today (ready or not!)…the pangs are starting to hit me, and I get a lump in my throat when I think about leaving this place. It’s easy to be distracted from the emotionality of it all when I’m focused on the tasks behind the move, but the tears are inevitable. Let’s change topic before I start blubbering on my keyboard!

1) We had a kooky week that started with sunny, warm days, and ended with freezing rain and snow flurries. I like to counter the dreariness with bright colors…who says pinks and corals are for Spring and Summer only?! I just balance them with Winter basics like boots, jeans, and leather bags to make them more season appropriate.

I usually create these boards with items similar to what I own, to give myself more outfit ideas. I was going to layer the tee and scarf with my favorite kitten-cardi in ‘coral spice’, but this one caught my eye instead. It’s similar to the wrap cardi, but less material gathered across the front…so the booby girls may prefer it. And you can’t beat the $25 price tag! I’ve been saving this scarf for Spring, but styling it like this means I don’t have to wait! Oh, and you know I layer a striped tee with just about any outfit…I want this one in all the colors!

Comfy Cool

2) One of the things on our Kitchen Reno list is to add pendant lighting over the breakfast bar…to define the space, and add some visual bang to the room. I’ve long been a fan of the pendant lantern…but always considered the Ballard and Restoration Hardware versions too overpriced. #cheapskate Imagine my glee when I found this one at World Market for $99! And if you use code MEMBERPASS, they are an additional 15% off, for a whopping $75!! Now that’s a good Look-for-Less! Mine arrived this week and I’m chomping at the bit to get them hung!

Hi Sugarplum | Look for Less Lantern Pendants

3) My friend Shay has been in the adoption process for almost two years, and this month she and her family were finally united with their little girl. Shay’s been blogging the journey of their trip to China to bring her home, including seeing their daughter for the first time, giving her the first bath of her life, and watching her other two kids fall in love with their new sister. I’ve been hanging on every word, and am so happy for them, and this precious girl. Watching this family come together is heart-warming, and so worth the read…make sure you start with Day 1!

4) Okay, now back to home decor. Of course the kids are using this new house business to get new room designs. Well, at first, my daughter wanted me to recreate her new room exactly like her old one…not one thing different. That’s since changed, and she and big brother have their sights set on makeovers.

We’re not exactly sure the direction, but we got some pretty good ideas after falling for some of these Urban Outfitter rugs…all currently 25% off! In fact, this rug became the jumping off point for his room. If you’re in the market for rugs…West Elm is also having 20% off, and be sure to check out this post for another favorite source.

Hi Sugarplum | Urban Outfitters Rug Sale
a.  //  b.  //  c.  //  d.  //  e.  //  f.  //  g.  //  h.

5) And finally, I don’t know if I should thank or curse my friend, Laura. Last week she posted about this woman’s water challenge, and her dramatic transformation by simply drinking a gallon of water every day for a month. I was so motivated, I’ve been guzzling water non-stop. I think even my eyeballs are floating, and I can’t venture far from a bathroom! But if I can lose my under-eye bags like her, then all those trips to the potty are worth it!

Have you heard of this water challenge? It hasn’t been too hard to actually drink that amount of water, but I do have a hard time remembering to drink it…or to take water with me when I’m out. I’m on Day 5, but since I forgot to take a Before pic, who knows if anything’s changed.

Last thing, darling Claire, of Claire Brody Designs, asked me to weigh in with my Blogging Tips for Beginners, and she wrote a really comprehensive post that new bloggers definitely need to check out.

And that concludes this random round-up…go forth in your cute cardigans and scarves, and drink lots of water! Happy weekend, lovebugs!

A gallon has 128 ounces which would be in the range for a 256 lb person, which isn't you. Just as drinking too little water can cause health issues so can consuming too much water; dilution of electrolytes is one concern. And time duration factors in there too; a couple of days may not be that much impact but 30 days … don't know. You're a smart cookie and I know you'll listen to what your body tells ya' if it becomes too much but I know if I drank that much water I'd never have a moment outside the bathroom so no one would ever be able to notice any facial changes! If its not one thing, its another 😉 Take good care.

Agreed with Robin!! I was just going to say the same thing. My Mom is 80 years old and very healthy. The doctor told her if she's going to drink just water, which is her main beverage besides one cup of coffee in the morning, he said for her to drink Smart Water or add a Nuun tablet because her electrolytes have been way down.

The Friday Five

You guys!!! Not only is it Friday #holla, but it’s officially less than two weeks until Christmas! I somehow went from being on top of things, to horribly behind, all in the span of a week?! Last I remember, it was Thanksgiving weekend…and now it’s Christmas! What??

Okay, my panic-driven rant is over…it’s pep-talk time. There’s still 13 days…that’s two full weekends to git ‘er done. Online shopping has truly saved me this year…I mean seriously, ain’t nobody got time for mall crowds!

1) So last week I shared my Holiday Party Style, featuring a black lace dress. But you know I love to get several wears out of my pieces, so I started thinking how I could jazz up a more basic, everyday black dress, to make it party ready. Clearly this one is my favorite, since I styled it
3 Ways in black, and 5 Ways in pink!

Outfit #1 pairs the dress with a fun faux-fur jacket, and a pop of bling and color.

Holiday Party

Outfit #2 is pure chic, with a touch of leopard and bling. You could also swap out the black heels for a fun color like I did here.

Dressed Up LBD

2) Many of you noticed my rain boots in a recent #SugarplumStyle post on InstaGram, and wondered if they were my Look-for-Less combination. Well yes, ma’am, indeed they are…and I could not be happier!! The boots don’t come in half-sizes, so I sized down to a 7, and the socks are medium. The two fit together like peas and carrots, and you’d never know they weren’t meant for each other. To be fair, I’ve never tried on true Hunter boots, but I’m thrilled with my more affordable version! Oh, and they’re lined with black and white stripes! #swoon (Thanks, Mom!!)

3) I shared my Sugarplum Christmas earlier this week, as part of Chris’s Holiday Blog Hop, but I wanted to make sure you checked back at the end of my post….it’s updated with links to 25 of the most inspiring Christmas Home Tours in blogland! I mean, really….my Christmas board is about to be overflowing with ideas for next year.

4) I don’t know about you, but all our parents have requested for Christmas, is pictures of the grandkids! My friend had this giant canvas made at InstaCanvas, and it turned out amazing! I’m ordering some of the smaller ones while they are on sale. The company was kind enough to offer free shipping (by Christmas!) with code SUGARPLUM, so I’m all over it!

5) Okay, so we know Christmas is 13 days away, and it’s time to get serious about those you haven’t shopped for yet. So I did us all a favor, and created what may be, the best Gift Guide yet. Well, as Mr. SP would say, ‘the best in lower Bulgaria, maybe.’ #nooffensetobulgaria Whatever! I challenge you to find someone on your list who wouldn’t match up with one of these gifts! There is a little something for everyone, and they all ship free. You’re welcome. And for the record, I’m a good match for 10 of the 12. #justsayinsanta

Hi Sugarplum | The Perfect Gift

two | Statement Necklace (60% off!)
three | Cable Knit Reindeer Head (40% off!)
four | Dipped Bowls, only 16!
eleven | Selfie Wand
twelve | Lip Gloss Set

So that’s it for the randomness that is my Friday Five! What’s on your random list today? Are you still shopping? Are you going to any fun holiday parties? Happy weekend, lovebugs!

{A few more fun gift ideas}

The Friday Five

Hall-le-freaking-luiah…it’s Friday. This fourth quarter is trying to kill me! Thank goodness I have this happy place to escape to and talk about cute Fall fashion and pretty spaces with you guys!

1) I’ve shared this fleece wrap cardi a few times, but hadn’t bit the bullet myself until this week (even though it has almost 2k perfect reviews!). And now I’ve officially drunk the Kool-Aid!! Holy wow, this is one crazy cozy, soft, comfortable piece that is so fun to wear with jeans or leggings. Seriously, it’s like being wrapped in kittens…that have been declawed. You can wear it open like a drapey cardi, or button it for a different look. I’ll show you next week. It’s crazy to be so comfy, while still looking pulled together!

This is the exact one I have (in XS regular), but I’m already scheming which one to get next while they are still on sale! And since Nordstrom is having a big clearance sale, I created this entire outfit with all sale pieces. #bam!

Cozy Weekend

2) Speaking of the big sale…earlier this week I showed you a great collection of coats under $200, then a friend alerted me to Nordstrom’s amazing coats under $100 tab!!! I love when they break items down by price point…anyone can find a nice coat for $500, but finding a great coat for $68 takes a bit more perseverance! These are the styles I think every wardrobe could benefit from, and my favorites of each. Between the sale and Nordstrom’s fair prices, they are all great deals.

Hi Sugarplum | Fall Coats under $200
Pea Coats: one // two // three
Trench Coats: one // two // three
Puffers: one // two // three
Just for Fun: one // two // three
So great, right?! And remember this cute plaid jacket…it’s on sale for $34! #hello!

Jacket // Hoodie (similar) // Distressed Jeans // Booties (similar) // Bag (similar)

3) If you want some eye candy like you’ve never seen, check out the latest reveals from the One Room Challenge. I don’t know how these gals bring thunder like this in just six weeks, but it is so inspiring!

via Waiting on Martha

4) We’ve been making some changes to the front of our house…increasing the curb appeal a bit, so I was especially smitten with A Beautiful Mess‘s project of modern house numbers. And how fun is that door color? I wonder what our neighbors would say about that!?

5) Okay, obviously I spent a fair amount of time browsing the Nordstrom sale this week…and discovered the ridiculous similarities of these two dresses…but with drastically different price tags. Granted, the Valentino is going to be higher quality, but come on!! I don’t think I could ever spend that for a piece of clothing, no matter how much money I had!! But I sure did scoop up the $40 version! But if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, and insist on buying a Valentino dress with it…please get this one. It’s divine. And on sale. #bargain #butnotreally

Hi Sugarplum | Save vs Splurge lace dress

Now I’m dying to know what’s the most expensive item in your closet! Seriously, share in the comments…we won’t judge! I’ll go through my closet this weekend and report back. Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

Hey friends, and happy Friday! I’m super excited about today…we’re surprising the kids by taking them out of school early, and going to the State Fair of Texas! We never miss the Fair, but rarely do they miss school, so I can’t wait to see their faces when they realize what we’re doing.

1) A ‘cool front’ blew in last night, so I’ll be wearing my Fall uniform…striped tee, scarf, and boots.

cozy fall

2) I met Caitlin of Desert Domicile at Haven this Summer, and she was the absolute sweetest. She recently revealed her stunning focal wall in her new Living Room. I love how her decor just pops off it. How gorgeous is her styling, too?!

Caitlin also just relaunched her Etsy shop of gorgeous agate coasters. The girl clearly has talent!!

3) I haven’t done much in the way of Fall decor. Okay, I haven’t done any. But I tend to get excited about Halloween in October, then Fall in November. We love Halloween around here (see past projects here)! World Market has the best decor for it…they actually make the holiday stylish. We’re having a little party soon, so I’m stoked they just unveiled their Halloween Shop.

I rounded up a few things I plan to use for our little get-together.

Hi Sugarplum | World Market Halloween
4) Ya’ll know my adoration of Kristin runs deep. I’m constantly amazed by her talent and style…and somehow we got lucky enough to get her help with our Big Box Bathroom renovation! She’s been texting me progress shots of her Living Room for weeks, so I’m thrilled she finally revealed the full space. I love every single detail of the room, and love watching her on video even more! #givethatgirlherownshow

5) You guys seemed to really like the {5 Ways} White Jeans After Labor Day post…so I couldn’t help but pull together another look for you. You may have noticed the jeans I was wearing in the post fit higher on the waist. I tried a new (to me) brand called NYDJ (Not Your Daughter’s Jeans)...they have a bit more stretch to hold everything in, and are higher to avoid muffin top.

It took me a few wears to get used to them since I’m so accustomed to low-rise, but I must admit, it’s nice to not worry about body parts falling out! (Tip: they ran big for me, so I sized down.) I can’t wait to duplicate this outfit for myself!

Reversible Tote Bag (reverses to cognac!) | Watch | Ring

I’m off to gorge on corn dogs and fried Oreos…happy weekend, lovebugs!

Hey Lori! I have some bootcut, too (so flattering!)…the skinny bootcuts I can usually wrap around my ankle and put a sock over so I can still tuck the jeans in knee boots. For the shorter boots, I think you need a heel and clean lines, then just wear them under your jeans. I also love pumps under bootcut jeans…but keep the toe more on the pointed, or rounded point, side…so they poke out from under your jeans. The really rounded toe pumps can get lost under the fabric, then you look peg leg. 😉 xo

I REALLY want to see what your state fair is like. I always wonder about other states! Take Care!!!

The Friday Five

Hey there, Friday! I have mixed emotions about the weekend…I’m thrilled for the days off, but neck-cricking labor awaits me in the Big Box Bathroom makeover. I have the task of painting the ceiling tonight, which is second only to scrubbing toilets in the fun department. But I know the result will be well worth it, so picture me with a flip-top head this weekend. As usual, my Friday Five is full of random.

1) InstaGram peeps went bananas over this #SugarplumStyle post. I mean, like twice as many ‘likes’ as any other post in my feed ever. Obviously we are all ready for Fall fashion. Please note my formula for transitioning to Fall is in full force…

My exact scarf is sold out except for the black one, but because we’re mad for plaid, I rounded-up a few more for you. I’m absolutely crazy for the buffalo check, and love all the colors in this cozy version. That’s the great thing about plaid…with so many colors in the pattern, it goes with half your closet!
Hi Sugarplum | Plaid Scarves
1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7

2) Supermodel blogger, Shannon of Burlap and Lace, (seriously, she and her husband are straight out of a Ralph Lauren ad) threw the most beautiful baby shower. I’m helping out with my step-sister’s baby shower tomorrow, so I couldn’t help but be inspired by all the perfect details.

And while you’re over there, be sure to check out her DIY Wall of Shelves with top-notch styling!

3) By now, everyone has heard the news about Young House Love’s hiatus, and I know I already feel their absence. Jamie of I Suwannee wrote a really great (perhaps somewhat controversial) post about what a lucky job blogging is. While my blog does make a little money, most of it goes right back in to creating content. I still work full-time, but if given the chance to create, then share it online for a living…I’d jump in with both feet and heels clicking. I think Jamie nailed what blogging is for me, and what it’s really about.

4) I’m still cuckoo over my monogrammed pillow, and now PB Teen is tempting me with this chic new monogrammed lattice pillow. They are such a great source for finding affordable decor accessories, and they do a quality job of embroidering. Oh, and right now, all pillows ship free. Quick…slap your name on a pillow and consider yourself officially Southern.

5) Luxury mattress brand Stearns & Foster has partnered with Hammitt to create this gorgeous, limited-edition  leather handbag. The timeless style embodies the Stearns & Foster values of superior craftsmanship, using the world’s finest materials. Why am I telling you this? Because they are giving away 20 of these $750 bags on their Facebook page!* And the grand prize is a Lux Estate Mattress. I don’t know about you, but I could sure use both! Go here for your chance, but if you win, you have to invite me for a sleepover!

300x250_hammitt_s&f

What are you up to this weekend? Besides the bathroom projects (Day 1 Report coming soon!), we’ll be celebrating the birth of Mr. Sugarplum! Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

It’s Friday, the sun is shining, and my toes are in the sand….it’s a good day! I hope your day and weekend is beyond glorious, too. Here’s my overly-excited, random Friday Five for the week.

1) You guys loved the striped dress I featured a few weeks ago (I did too, the dress now belongs to me and I’m working on a 1 Dress 5 Ways post with it!), so I thought I’d share this adorable striped skirt I just fell in love with. It’s got a full shape, so it might not be for everyone…but it couldn’t be any cuter with a chambray top and cage sandals! Funny how a few years ago, I’d never pair blue, black and brown…and now I can’t get enough. (Update: the skirt just went on sale!)

Stripes + Chambray

Tote Purse (on sale!) | Polka Dot Wallet (also on sale!) | iPad Case

2) Even though our birthday parties have become simpler (turns out teenagers don’t want favors and craft stations), I’m still a sucker for a fabulous children’s party. The talented Kelli Trontel (who took our family pictures while visiting Texas last year), lives a picturesque life, with her darling family, in Montana. They recently celebrated their son with a Little Explorer party. The details, and her photos, are almost more than I can handle.

3) Bet you can’t guess where this rug is from? And even more shocking, it’s under $100!

4) Are you kidding me?!? I’m dying over these DIY Otomi Bean Bags!! Shelley at Crazy Wonderful made them. Like, with her own two hands. I can never get enough of otomi, and it’s genius to stencil it on a drop cloth! Consider this copied, Shelley!

5) Why am I just now trying these crackers?! I can’t believe all the years I’ve wasted eating mediocre crackers. I think the gluten-free label scared me off, and I assumed they’d taste like communion wafers. I was wrong. Do yourself a favor, use them to scoop Nutella. #faint

What snacks are you shoveling back these days? How do you feel about wearing black, brown and blue together? Oh, and if you like that striped skirt, you might want to check out this one and this one. Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

Happy Friday from Hot-lanta! I’m hanging at the Haven Conference with so many fun and amazing blogger friends, hopefully soaking up some of their creative genius. What do you have planned for this glorious July weekend? Here’s the randomness that is my Friday Five.

1) I’ve slowly ventured into the world of maxi dresses, but quickly realized I require petite sizing unless I want it to drag the ground like Princess Kate’s wedding gown. #shortgirlproblems This cute chevron maxi comes in regular and petite sizes, and has the right mix of sass, comfort and sexy. It would look great with the fringe Kendra Scott look-a-like pendant that’s only $18! And don’t even get me started on the striped tote. #swoon

summer stripes
Chevron Maxi (available in Petite too!) | Striped Tote (on sale)

2) Hello cute cover-up for $26.

3) I’ve been on a serious roasted okra kick lately, but love the idea of grilling it! I would guess you just brush them with olive oil first? Have you tried it?

4) Thank you for all the sweet comments on our Refreshed Patio! For more outdoor inspiration, check out all the Home Depot Style Challenge participants here, including Grace’s Porch with amazing DIY Beaded Chandelier!

5) Being in large crowds of women can be intimidating, so I’ve been reminding myself of this quote for the past few days.

What are your thoughts on maxi dresses? Are you a fan of okra, or is it a Southern thing? Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

We made it to Friday! Holla! This weekend I’m excited to have some girl time with my friends I’ve known since first grade. That is a loooooong time, but no one needs to do that math. It is so therapeutic to spend time with people who know your history, your mama, your heartaches, your triumphs, and about that time you did that thing with you-know-who at the neighborhood park. You know the kind of friends I’m talking about!! It’s safe to say we’ll get in to some debauchery. Or as much debauchery as 7 girls who likely won’t leave the house can get in to.

1) I ordered this adorable pink dress, and hope it arrives by the time I get home. I am a sucker for flirty dresses under $50!! The silhouette is flattering to all shapes, and the style is so versatile. You can easily dress it up for date nights, showers, parties, and nights on the town.

Pink & Blue

2) Or swap out the accessories for a more casual look, and the dress transitions for work, lunch on the patio, weekend shopping with the girls, and church. Don’t you love the color, and the exposed zipper? Look for it to appear in my Sugarplum Style series soon!

Saturday Fun

3) I love following along with bloggers who are building or remodeling their house…we get to enjoy all the outcomes, without the actual stresses! It was fun watching Shelley at Crazy Wonderful during their building process, and they recently moved into her gorgeous new home. She’s putting the finishing touches on the fabulous Kitchen, and I’m swooning! I wonder why I put espresso cabinets in my kitchen when white kitchens made me gasp?

4) I’m super excited to announce this little collaboration! During the month of June, I’ll be posting some of our Summer fun to my InstaGram and Twitter, as part of Staples’ #30SummerDays campaign. You can follow along with the hashtag, and post your own photo each day. Then, at the end of the month, I’ll be giving away one of these brand-new Samsung Galaxy Wi-Fi Cameras! It’s like a mini-tablet, with a kickin’ camera….basically perfect!

Hi Sugarplum | Samsung Galaxy Camera

5) My firstborn turns 13 next month!?! What the?! How the?! I can’t even deal…but he’s already scheming and planning his party. These huge gold balloons make such a great impact for parties….and guess where I found them for only $6?! Urban Outfitters…BAM! I just ordered the 1 & 3, so maybe the cool balloons will take the sting off my baby becoming a teenager. How cute if I got them to spell out his name, too?

What are you scheming and planning these days? Happy debauchery-filled weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

Wah-whoa-we-wah, am I glad it’s Friday … it has been a doozy of a week. I’ve had one kid down with the croup, another with insane sinus problems…along with some other sadness/drama I’ve been trying to deny. Anyway, it’s catching up with me. Funny how life has a way of not letting you sweep it under the rug, huh? I think a weekend of family time will perk things up…okay, and maybe some retail therapy, too.

1) It’s finally safe to pull the shorts out here, but still cool enough to pair with long sleeve shirts. I recently nabbed these graphic shorts, and plan to wear this exact outfit all weekend. Oh, and every single item shown is on sale! I’ve included the code if needed for the discount…the other links are automatically marked down. Ain’t nobody got time for full price! And yes, I’m still putting that bag charm on everything.

bright and preppy

Graphic Shorts (use code GETMORE) | Chambray Shirt (use code TREAT) | Crossbody Bag | Elephant Bag Charm | Tassel Necklace | Wedge Sandals (use code BRSPLURGE) | Sunglasses | Bow Bracelet | Watch

2) Let’s talk about those wedges, because they are so good they deserve their own post. I’ve been on the hunt for comfortable, neutral wedges for awhile, and almost settled on the Toms wedges, but they were a little tight across my fat toes. I hit the jackpot with these from Banana Republic…right height, comfy padded insole, stretchy straps for custom fit, and perfect neutral color to elongate the leg! I wore them all day during the conference last weekend, and apparently danced all night, and was so impressed by how comfortable they are. Use code BRSPLURGE for 30% off through this weekend. You’re welcome.

Hi Sugarplum | BR Wedge

3) Now that you’ve got the outfit and the wedges, let’s talk about how to roll your long sleeves for this transitional weather. Because a properly rolled sleeve, and a popped collar, definitely ups the style factor in your outfit. My stylish friend Carly at C.Style shows us the simple steps to achieve the perfect J.Crew-style rolled sleeve. I just used the word ‘style’ four times in two sentences. Clearly I mean business.

4) Did you see the clever Freckles Chick Mudroom Reveal this week?! Girl didn’t just make an existing space awesome…she completely converted the porch into a more usable (and awesome) space! It’s never occurred to me to look outside my house for more rooms!! I also need her little fox hook in my life.

5) Ya’ll know a good portion of my home decor comes from World Market…so this weekend is pretty much the Super Bowl for me. They are having their once-a-year Friends & Family Sale, where every single item, sale and full-priced, is 25% off (use code FNFSAVE)!!! I’ll let you marinate on that a second.

Here are the items I’m considering…or have already brought home!

Hi Sugarplum | World Market Sale

a. Tufted Ottoman / add so much color and style to a room
c. Embroidered Dress / perfect cover-up for pool season
d. Parrot Floral Curtain Panel / I just ordered these for our bedroom!
e. Gray Wingchair / timeless & classic, in a compact size
g. Metal Pendant / so good over a bar or island
i. Natural Fedora / add instant chic to your Summer outfit
n. Tassel Scarf / tassels + pink & orange! what else do you need?
p. Potting Bench / see mine in action here & here

See anything you like? Who’s rolling their sleeves and popping collars?! Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

How excited for Friday are we?! I can hardly believe it’s April, and Easter is around the corner. I’m ignoring the cool temperatures that keep popping up, and am dressing for Spring. My weekend plan is to ruthlessly tackle my closet, and leave only my very favorite items behind. I already have my bags for ThredUp, and plan to stuff them full!

1) Last week I revealed my new favorite white jeans, and styled them for a casual outfit. I thought it’d be fun to show how I’d dress them up, too. This is pretty much my date-night uniform.

The Friday Five

It’s Friday…can I get a ‘hollaaaaaaa!’ Thanks so much for your comments and emails yesterday about our approaching trip…I added all your tips to the list!

1) Looking at beach pics has me dreaming of Spring outfits…does it get any Springier than pink + yellow? This is pretty much my weekend uniform as soon as the temps start to warm. I have these shorts in at least five colors (love them and the price!), and this jean jacket is a staple this time of year.

Pink Spring

2) I lived in these wedge booties all Fall and Winter, and loved how they were not only stylish, but super comfy. And I got used to having the extra height! I figured since Toms has the comfy wedge down to a science, I need to add a pair of their wedge sandals to my wardrobe this Summer. There are so many cute ones to choose from, and they all have almost perfect reviews. Which do you like?

Toms Summer Wedges

3) Don’t you love when talented designers have blogs, and share their tips and tricks with us regular folk?! My friend Grace, at A Storied Style, has amazing taste and ideas, and recently showcased her inexpensive version of Acrylic Drapery Rods. The real-deal can run upwards of $750 per rod! #nevergonnahappen But clever Grace DIYed them for $65. You can bet your boots you’ll be seeing this pop up in my house somewhere soon!

4) Jimmy Fallon is the perfect combination of adorably cute + laugh-outloud-funny. I love the sketches where Jimmy, the Roots and a popular singer cram into a tiny room, and perform a hit song using children’s instruments. This ‘Let It Go’ with Idina Menzel is my new favorite. Girl can sing, dang!

5) Stefanie and Jennifer came up with a fantastic idea of a Favorite Things Exchange, and somehow I got invited to participate! They rounded up a group of home bloggers who just so happen to be
moms, too. Each of us got secretly paired up with another participant and
will spend the next few weeks thinking up what perfect “favorite thing” would make a great
surprise for her. Kind of like a Secret Santa but without the holiday
crush. Once the packages are opened, we’ll share the loot just in time
for everyone’s respective Mother’s Day shopping. I’m dying to know who has me, and would love your gift ideas to send my ‘secret mama’!

Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

Woot, it’s Friday! We had an unexpected snow yesterday, which caused all kinds of excitement. It’s pretty much gone now, but ridiculously cold temperatures remain. And not just Texas-cold…we’re talking wind chills of 3 below! That’s cold even by Canadian standards, eh?! #harhar Needless to say, we Southerners are not dealing well with it. I’m hunkered down inside making friends with my laptop…here’s the Friday Five.

1) So I’ve had my eye on this Michael Kors tortoise watch for awhile. But the price tag kept me from pulling the trigger. Imagine my shock and glee when I found the exact watch for $150 less!! So I did a little sleuthing…and did you know that Fossil actual makes Michael Kors watches?! And Burberry? For real. And the online reviews for the Fossil watches are through the roof! Not to mention they come with an 11-year warranty. All of a sudden I’m feeling really good about the $100 Fossil version. I even found the same watch on Amazon for $73!

HI Sugarplum | fossil vs michael kors watches

That got me wondering just how many styles are available in both brands….turns out a lot! These were two of my favorites…

Hi Sugarplum | Michael Kors vs Fossil watches

2) Sarah Dorsey made these Geometric Gold Lamps. You read that right…she MADE them! And for $11 each!? I think my head just exploded. From this point on, I can no longer say I DIYed anything.

3) A few weeks ago I posted this fun, flirty weekend outfit. I guess some of you liked it, because when I went back later to grab the adorable elbow-patch heart sweater, it was sold out!? So rude!

weekend cool

I’m relieved to announce that they’ve restocked a few red ones (for some reason these sizes are on sale), and plenty of them in mint and hot pink. Rest assured I ordered mine before sharing the good news. Here are a few more cute options…I’m crazy for those elbow patches! (P.S…the wedge booties have been restocked in all sizes, too. Run! Get them…trust me, you’ll love how cute and comfy they are!)

Hi Sugarplum | Heart Elbow Patch

4) My friend Emily created a list of her Top 10 Go To Home Accessories. Her home is always perfectly styled, and she has great taste, so I was thrilled to find out I already own several things on her list!! I think that makes me stylish by association.

5) I love the look of leggings and boots, but I struggle finding tops long enough to cover the lady bits, without drowning my entire frame in a mumu.  This cozy Cowlneck Tunic looks like it might be the magic key…covering the jiggly parts, while still looking pulled together. My leggings are black, so I’ll likely go with this speckled ivory/grey

How’s that for a big mosh-pit of random greatness today?! Stay warm and cozy, and happy weekend, lovebugs!

Super cute for a little girl's sweater! I know you're always saying "this girl doesn't sew" but with a little fabric glue or a simple stitch by hand you could customize your own sweaters. I think I'm going to get busy on that myself…

The Friday Five

Hey, hey, hey…happy Friday! It was rough, but we made it through our first full week back. As a reward, we get to spend the next two days in pajamas! Maybe not the whole time, because I’ve been bit by the January organizing bug, and the garage has a few spots in need. How about a Friday Five that’s short and sweet?

1) I’ve never really understood why stores start clearancing out all their Fall and Winter goods in January. I mean, it’s just now starting to get for-real cold here, and they want to talk about shorts? Fine by me though, because I can scoop stuff up on major sale, and get a good four months out of it before packing away. Boots are always on my radar, especially when they are up to 50% off…and include free shipping and returns! These are my faves right now (most are available in black, too)

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Boot Sale

5 | 6 | 7 | 8

2) I think Kristin Jackson of Hunted Interior is one of the biggest undiscovered design talents. I just know she’ll be in Domino or House Beautiful one day. Her work amazes me, and I love soaking in every detail of her projects. She just converted her Dining Room in to the most perfect space for her daughter’s new room. Feast your eyes.

3) I’m convinced I’d cook more if I had a set of these measuring cups (on sale!).

Hi Sugarplum | Anthro Measuring cups

4) I’m a sucker for January white sales. I have these big fantasies of ditching all my mis-matched sheets and towels, and starting over with the most perfect all white ones. Serena & Lily’s Half-Off White Sale pulled me in…but of course I ended up drooling over these colorful pillows. My sad sheets and towels will live to see another day.

5) I live for a good Before & After, so I loved Apartment Therapy’s round-up of ast year’s most dramatic transformations…you won’t even believe what this space used to be!

Is it time to put our pj’s on yet? Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

Sweet baby Jesus, thank goodness it’s Friday! It’s been a hot-bed of bodily functions at our house all week, and I’m ready for everyone to be well! Just as Babygirl was feeling better from her bout of salmonella, we came home to discover Maggie had found the chocolate stash for our Advent Calendar! I posted my panic on Facebook, and everyone was so helpful! We called the vet and they recommended ‘inducing vomit.’ Let’s just say that’s not an experience I’ll soon forget.

So let’s leave all that behind and jump right in to this Friday Five, because I’ve got some goodies for you!

1) Holidays = Baking. But then there’s the question of how to package those goodies for friends and neighbors. One of my favorite Brits, Rachie at A Chi Chi Affair, found the cutest printables for packaging cookie gifts! I’ve already printed off several copies and can’t wait to get my bake on.

2) Speaking of Advent Calendars…one of our activities this week was ‘Write a Letter to Santa.’ Well it was a whole lot cuter thanks to this free printable from my adorable friend, Jen at I Heart Organizing. And if you take your letter to any Macy’s store and drop it in their Santa Box, they’ll donate $1 to Make-A-Wish Foundation! Pretty cool, right?

Elf on a shelf

3) Yesterday I posted a doozie of a Men’s Gift Guide, and this post had great stuff for you and the gals in your life. But what about all those other people on your list who are so dang hard to buy for?! You know who I’m talking about! Well, I recently discovered Uncommon Goods, the coolest online shop full of the most creative and affordable gifts. I know you could find something great for teachers, parents, kids, and your great-uncle Buck.

Hi Sugarplum | Uncommon Goods Picks

4) I was lucky enough to participate in Hunted Interior’s round-up of fabulous ornaments this week. I don’t know what I liked better….the gorgeous ornaments, or Kristin’s amazing graphics! That girl has got serious skills. See for yourself here….

5) We’ve been having fun with Advent Calendars for years, but this is the first holiday season we added an Elf on the Shelf to the excitement. And I don’t know who loves it more…me or the kids! I’ve been showing Faith (our elf) and her hijinks on InstaGram this week.

Hi Sugarplum | Elf on a Shelf
Christmas wishes with the Alphabet Game
Passed out in the bag of chocolate chips. Moderation, please, Faith!
Chilling in the freezer with her pal, Frosty. #seewhatIdidthere?
Oops, stayed in the freezer too long and caught a cold. Of course leaving her used Kleenex all over?!
I love seeing what others are doing with their elves, so I started a hashtag link on InstaGram: #HiSugarplumElfFun It’s so much fun to scroll through all the creative ideas…not to mention really helpful when you realize late at night you haven’t moved your elf that day! Here’s just a few of my favorites this week.

Thanks for the tip, Erin! This changes everything!

Do you have an Elf? I hope you’ll play along with our hashtag fun…I’m featuring some each Friday in December. Oh, and the winner of the Wreath Depot fresh greenery has been announced here…was it you?! Happy weekend, lovebugs! I hope it’s a healthy one for us all!

The Friday Five

Heeeey! Happy Friday, friends. Wow, am I ready for the weekend. Our busy week was topped off with three of us having colds, and the other one spraining his ankle. I’m ready to lay-low and get everyone well! And probably pick up a paintbrush, too. Here’s the Friday Five….

1) I can’t think of a better way to relax, than to cuddle up with my laptop and shop Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly Sale! So many of the things I’ve been drooling over this season are on sale (like these boots and these jeans), and now might be the time to pull the trigger. I mean, my birthday and Christmas is around the corner! I put together this cozy Fall outfit using only sale items, most 40% off, and it sure is tempting!

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom half-yearly sale

2) I loved reading your suggestions on how you stay organized during the holidays. We certainly all have the love of list-making in common! No doubt Martha’s stuff is going to help me, but I’ve also downloaded the Santa’s Bag app that Sara of Total Basset Case suggested! It allows you to import recipients, set budgets, plan gifts, create wish and shopping lists, track your progress, and counts down the days. Oh, and it’s password protected to keep snooping eyes away.

 Santa's Bag

3) We’re totally cuckoo over our Pink Dining Room, but realize it’s certainly not for everyone. Kelli at Life at 818 thought it was for them, though! When she shared the transformation of her Dining Room from navy to pink, my jaw dropped. It looks so sophisticated and glamorous. You’ve got to see her red chairs, too.

4) Speaking of paint…this is the weekend to stock up! Sherwin-Williams is my go-to source when painting rooms…their Super Paint gets it done with one coat, and our red ceiling only needed two! Even if I don’t have any painting projects planned, I still buy a few gallons off the shelf. When you’re ready to paint, just take them back to the store for free tinting. They are also pros at color-matching, and have most every company’s color formulas. And they didn’t pay me to say all that. Unfortunately, Sherwin-Williams has no idea who I am.

5) A big phat WELCOME to our new sponsor Stellar Interior Design. They offer amazing online interior design, regardless of your location or budget. Stellar Interior Design provides you with a master plan for creating a professionally designed
space, or entire home, that you can implement at your own pace, and within your preset budget. It’s an
affordable alternative to the traditional way of hiring a designer.

The Friday Five

It’s the most…wonderful day…of the week!! I have no idea why I’ve got Christmas melodies on the brain…but now you do, too. Ha! I think I’m just giddy it’s Friday. Here’s what else is running through my head.

1) With Fall finally coming to town, I’m on the hunt for the perfect boot. So when the adorable Freckles Chick posted this pic to her IG account this week (please tell me you follow her @freckleschic4???), I immediately needed to know details on her boots! Turns out they’re these, and they are under $100! Sheaffer swears by these and you know she’s never let us down, so I might need to try them. And my aunt texted me a pic of these from Target yesterday….they have real potential! (True to Target’s form, they look way better in person than in their lame-o website pics.) Have you found the perfect Fall boot yet?!

2) I feel like my status as a part-time “fashion” blogger would be revoked if I didn’t tell you about some great Columbus Day sales going on this weekend. (Yeah, I couldn’t say fashion blogger without laughing, either.)

  • J.Crew Factory has 50% off everything. EVERY. THING.
  • Hop over to J.Crew for an extra 40% off all sale items. That means this cute striped dress is only $18!
  • Gap has 30% off your total order, so you can add a denim jacket to your wardrobe for $45. I’ve had my Gap denim jacket (worn here) for 12 years….kid you not.
  • ShopBop updated their Sales, and they are up to 70% off! Dang. Even this transport tote is on sale.
  • C.Wonder is having their mack-daddy 50% all sale items. Come to mama, $4 salad set!
  • RugsUSA is offering 65% off a huge selection of rugs.
Hi Sugarplum | J.Crew Factory Sale Favorites

3) My friend Carmel is the new home editor at The Chic Site (she’s kind of a big deal), and one of her first orders of business was starting a cool new interview series. For some reason she chose me as the first subject, and she got all Barbara Walters on me. Head over to The Chic Site to read what drives my DIY, where I draw inspiration, and my attempt at defining my style.

https://hisugarplum.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Inspired-Design2.jpg

4) I get asked a lot about mood boards…do I create them, will I create them for others, what program do I use to create them. You get the idea. The answer has always been no, no, and I don’t. I’m not a designer, I just know what I like for my own home. And frankly, creating mood boards always seemed horribly intimidating. Until now.

Polyvore….you know them from all those great outfit boards…now has a Home tab. And it’s loaded with 1,000s of items, all just waiting for you to work your magic. And the kicker is, it’s insanely simple to use. I whipped up this fun bedroom in 5 minutes. No joke. I’m super psyched to be part of their Project Decorate team….more on that later!

Glam & Cozy Bedroom

5) A big phat WELCOME to our new sponsor, online stationary boutique, Rutherford Papers! They have
invitations and gifts for a variety of occasions including
weddings, bridal/baby showers, bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinners, sip and see parties, as
well as, birth announcements, thank you notes, personalized stationery,
holiday cards, moving announcements, bag tags, custom rubber stamps, and much more! Basically, if you’re celebrating something, and you want it to be cute, they are your hook-up!

And notice how I said OUR new sponsor….because without sponsors, we’d have no project fund! So thank you for supporting the sponsors that keep things flowing around here!

Hi Sugarplum | Rutherford Papers ad

We plan to get our spook on this weekend, and Halloweenie the house. What are you up to? Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

It’s practically the weekend, and I’m totally psyched…so let’s jump right in to The Friday Five…

1) Ever since we painted the Dining Room pink (oh yes we did, see it here), the drapes in the Breakfast Room are no longer jiving with me. You can see them from the Dining Room, and the dark pink of the drapes clashes with the pink walls. And honestly, it’s a little too much pink. (Wha?! Who said that!?)

Hi Sugarplum | Kitchen Makeover

West Elm to the rescue with 30% off all curtain panels and hardware….these pretty ladies are on the way to me. I’ll be sure to show you once I’ve got them up. (Pssst…rugs and bedding are 30% off, too!)

Cotton Canvas Zigzag Curtain – Feather Gray

2) Several of you sweet people complimented my legs in the {Outfit Inspiration} post yesterday. First of all, thank you! But I must confess, it’s totally an optical illusion. The magic is in the wedges. I picked them up at the beginning of the Summer, and have worn them constantly. And every single time, someone compliments my shoes and legs. The neutral color and wedge heel lengthen (and thin!) the leg, and they are actually quite comfortable. So I’d say they were a good investment…especially since they’re affordable.

DV by Dolce Vita 'Jonee' Sandal (Nordstrom Exclusive)

3) But if you’ve already moved on to Boot Season, these are my all-time favorites. My Fall uniform is skinny jeans, tee, colorful scarf, and these boots. Easy, comfy and totally pulled together! I’ve had my pair for 2 years and they are still going strong. I’m a cheapskate when it comes to sandals, but I’ve learned the hard way it pays to spend a little more for good boots.

Steven by Steve Madden 'Intyce' Boot

4) The sweet Amanda of Serenity Now asked me to share my favorite Summer Projects….two months ago! And I’m such a jerk blonde chump, that I forgot to tell you guys!! So please help me right my wrong, and hop over to say ‘Hi’ to Amanda. And scope out my fun projects, too.

Serenity Now

5) I bit ole WELCOME to my returning sponsor, Design Your Dwelling! The talented Beth creates affordable Mood Boards, and my favorite…$25 Quick Fixes for when you need help with small things like finding art for a blank wall, or choosing a color for a piece of furniture. And you lucky ducks get to take 20% off any services with code SUGARPLUM. Thank you for supporting the sponsors that keep the projects flowing around here!

So what’s your secret weapon for making your legs look long and lean? Do you have a favorite Fall boot? Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

Hey, hey…it’s Friday! I made it to Atlanta, and am having a great time, especially with my roomies Courtney and Carmel. We’re missing Megan though…sadly she was needed at home. Today we give the first of two classes on Social Media, and I’m trying to play it cool, but I am tripping a little. Is it too early for a cocktail?!

Here’s what’s on my radar for today’s Friday Five….

1) Have you seen the Poppin website?! It’s got to be the happiest place on the internet. They recently sent me a bright blue notepad and yellow pens, and I’m already looking for more products to brighten up my work day!

Hi Sugarplum | Poppin Office Supplies

They’ve combined my obsession with office supplies and bright colors, and will make your desk the cheeriest spot in the house.

2) When it came time to pack for Haven, I knew I’d stick with my uniform of bright dresses with equally bright necklaces. I’m pretty smitten with these three from Old Navy…and all under $30! Use code ONBIG20 for 20% off your woman’s purchase.

Hi Sugarplum | Old Navy summer dresses

3) And I’d be a bad blogger-friend if I didn’t remind you that this is the final weekend for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I’ve shown you my picks, and what I bought…how about you?! Have you hit the sale up yet?

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is going on now. Prices go up August 5.

4) Remember the monogrammed pillow I went so crazy over? Well PB Teen has some new ones to drool on. I mean, drool over.

Abby Monogram Pillow Cover

5) A big, giant WELCOME to my newest sponsor, Olive Leaf Stencils! I’m thrilled to have them, and hope to try my hand at one of their amazing stencils soon. I’m partial to the Modern Prints, but really do love them all. Thank you for supporting Hi Sugarplum sponsors…they are what keep the projects flowing!

Don’t forget to follow all the Haven fun on InstaGram and Facebook. Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

Today is the last day of school, so we’re busy with class parties and yearbooks…and soaking up the first official weekend of the Summer. This is what’s floating around my head this happy Friday.

1)  Remember the Pottery Barn Mystery Box Challenge I told you about? Five bloggers create drink stations out of pieces from Pottery Barn’s Outdoor Entertaining line, then they’re voted on by their 1 million Facebook fans! #nopressure I can’t share the full post with you just yet, but I’m so excited I thought I’d give you a sneak peek. Obviously I went with lots of color.

Hi Sugarplum | Fiesta Party

2) I haven’t watched reality talent/dance shows in years and years, but Megan wouldn’t stop talking about The Voice, so this season we gave it a try. My gosh, now the whole family is hooked! I can’t even believe the caliber of singers…they totally blow American Idol away, not to mention Blake and Adam are so cute fun to watch! I think Sasha is my favorite contestant. Or Michelle. No, probably Amber because she’s a local girl. Who’s your favorite? How many more eliminations are there? Was the show this good with CeeLo and Christina coaching?! I think no.

http://breathecast.christianpost.com/data/images/full/11262/the-voice-season-4.jpg

3) Creating gallery walls is so fun, but finding the art can be difficult…not to mention expensive. Poppytalk, one of my favorite sites for beautiful ideas, is sharing these botanicals as a free download/printable. They would make a lovely gallery wall on their own, or mix perfectly with other art.

4) Shelley at Crazy Wonderful is always coming up with gorgeous makeovers, and ingenious ideas. My laundry room is a sad little space, so I was instantly wowed by hers….I mean, she had me at the stripes. But the back wall is what stopped my scrolling finger in it’s tracks. Shelley’s a fan of the Scalamandre Zebra fabric and wallpaper, but not of the price. So she drew her own!! Hello, impressive. I’m not artistic enough to even draw the arrows.

5) A giant welcome to my newest sponsor, Lisa Leonard Designs! I’ve been a long-time fan of Lisa and her gorgeous handmade jewelry, and couldn’t be more thrilled to be partnered with someone of her talent.

The Friday Five

Hello, Friday! Wowza, am I glad you’re here. As usual, The Friday Five is a mis-match of topics…pretty much the same as my brain.

1) We were in Europe when the horrible Boston bombings occurred. We’ve never felt so far from home, as our hearts ached for the city, and our country. It’s hard to feel so helpless, so I was thrilled to know the profits of this Boston Love Tee are being donated to The One Fund Boston. My small purchase will hopefully help those people lost, injured, and impacted by the tragic events of the Boston Marathon. And it’s a really cute tee.

Hi Sugarplum | Boston Love Tee

Along those lines, Emily was a half-mile from the finish line when the bombs went off. Her first-person account kept a lump in my throat all day. Read her story at Hollywood Housewife.

Boston marathon emily running collage

2) Seems kind of shallow to switch to this subject…but with this warmer weather, comes bare legs. As in, blue-white, haven’t seen the sun in 8 months legs! I’m a big fan of Sublime Bronze spray tan, but this year I think I’ll give these Tanning Towelettes a try. I know many people swear by them, do you?

L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning, Towelettes, Medium - 6 ea

3) Once my legs are nice and tan, I think I need to add one of these striped cuties to my closet.

Hi Sugarplum | Striped Dress Picks
one | two | three

4) How to Hide Pesky Lamp Cords is my most-read post. I had no idea so many of us were annoyed by cords. Modern Lantern has cut-out the cord completely, with their new, battery-operated, fully-rechargeable table lamps. Can you say genius? Check out their Kickstarter Program to pre-order their new line of lamps at discounted prices.

Our first, previous, production run

5) I was honored to curate a collection of chic Baby Shower Gifts for the Spring issue of To & From. This e-magazine is chock full of great ideas for grads, moms, dads, brides….basically every occasion for which you need a gift this season!

Hi Sugarplum | To & From Curated Collection

I hope to get out and enjoy a few sunny days this weekend. What are you up to? Happy Weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

Hey, hey friends….give it up for Friday! As usual, lots going on around here….

1) The good news is, I made a few dollars on this wee lil blog last year. The bad news is, that means 1099s and taxes. I keep thinking if I ignore them, it will go away. But Uncle Sam has a funny way of flushing us out. Fortunately, Ms. Smarty Pants CPA, Sarah at Tucker Up, wrote a really clear and informative post about blogging and taxes. It will likely be my lifeline as I crawl my way through Turbo Tax. Eventually.

2) I’ve been doing a little bloggie housekeeping, and the comment section now has a ‘Reply’ function. This will be great for answering your questions, and responding to fun comments. (Especially those of you still pegged as No Reply! If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, read here.) Feel free to reply to each other, too…think of it as the match.com of home bloggers.

The Project Gallery is also updated, and there’s a handy little Pin It button at the bottom of each post. Oh, and InstaGram is now added to the gaggle of social media buttons in the sidebar, so you can stalk follow Hi Sugarplum anywhere. Yay for technology…and Thais at House 09 who did the fixes for me! So grab a donut and stay awhile.

3) Mr. Sugarplum and I discovered Breaking Bad about a month ago, and have already blown through all four seasons on Netflix! (Sleep is for the weak.) It’s not for the faint-of-heart, but daaaaaaaaaaang is it good. We’re having Walter White withdrawals…even though I despise him.

Now we’re recording the new mini-series, The Bible, to watch with our kids. How’s that for balanced TV viewing?

4) Last weekend we cleaned up the backyard in preparation for the Home Depot Patio Challenge with these lovely bloggers.

This weekend we’ll dive in this box, occupying half the garage, to see what Home Depot sent us!

5) And finally, our Project Fund would like to welcome back The Shopping Bag, as a returning sponsor. Check them out, and don’t forget the 10% off for Hi Sugarplum readers!

What are you currently watching? Have you started your taxes? Have you ever received a box the size of a Smart Car?! Happy weekend, lovebugs!

oohh – thanks for the tax info. I googled around looking for a comprehensive post but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

We watched the first episode of the Bible series. It was really good, although some scenes were more violent than I expected. Still looking forward to the rest of the series.

I'm as excited for you to open that home depot box. How fun!! Can't wait to see what you get and what you do with it.

The Friday Five

Hey, hey, hey…Happy Friday! Is this the start of a long weekend for any of you lucky ducks? I’m not off Monday for President’s Day, but the kids are…which means sleepovers for them…and date night for us!! Woot, Woot! My brain is all over the place, per usual, so here’s a random Friday Five of happenings around here.

1) A $200 gift card I received for Christmas has been burning a hole in my pocket, but I’m hoarding it like a Lohan does hair extensions. I keep waiting for the perfect thing to come along. Something I just have to have, but would never actually buy for myself. Right now, the  Madewell Transport Tote is top of my list. Did I mention it can be monogrammed, mom? This looks like one of those bags that just looks better with age. Unlike the ones under my eyes.

The Transport Tote

2) I did a little closet purging, and finally let go of some jeans that I had no business trying to wear. I have a few pairs of these skinnies, which I love, but I’m not sure are completely flattering on my shape. I’m ready to go back to the days of slimming dark denim, with a hips-forgiving bootcut. The Hudson Signature Bootcut Jeans are on my radar, but I’m not sure if the flap pocket is a good or bad thing, cause this baby got back.Cute, aren’t they?!

Hudson Jeans Signature Flap Pocket Bootcut Jeans (Savage)

3) Are you watching The Bachelor this season? I usually wait until only a few girls are left, but jumped on board early this season since Sean is a Dallas boy. How cute was his sister, Shay, on this week’s episode? Did you know she has a blog, Mix and Match Family, and totally dishes all the behind-the-scenes stuff on her brother?! Oh yeah, totally fun to read.

And to make the world even smaller, my friend Sheaffer at Pinterest Told Me To is Shay’s BFF. Sheaffer is a hoot-and-a-half, and writes the funniest Bachelor recaps. Even if you don’t watch the show, you’ll be laughing at all the crazy she dishes on!

4) Don’t forget the Charles Emerson Designs discount code expires tomorrow, as does the giveaway for this fabulous J.Crew-esque bracelet! The Zabby scarf and Nicole bracelet are on their way to me. Happy Valentines, Cassie. Why thank you, Cassie!

Charles Emerson

5) And finally, a huge Texas Welcome to my newest sponsors, A Girl Named Gay and Smart, Blonde & Crafty; and welcome back to Quality Bath. I know ads are a touchy subject for readers and bloggers, but they are essential to my Project Fund! And more funds mean more projects…win-win, right?! Go check them out this weekend!

So what randomness is running around your brain this Friday? I’d love to know your favorite brand and fit of jeans. I have a pair from Old Navy that are perfection, but of course they aren’t available any longer. Are you over the muffin top, too? What would you buy with an extra $200? Happy weekend, lovebugs!

I want this little Tiffany smart wallet that costs $295. It holds your smart phone, cash, cards, you name it. But it is still small and simple. I'd NEVER buy it for myself. I can't fathom paying that for a wallet, but the thing is…I'd use it EVERY SINGLE DAY! It wouldn't get old after a few months either. It would get used for years. So…if I ever had $200 burning a whole in my pocket I'd use it on that cute little {useful} Tiffany wallet.

HA HA HA. You crack me up, Cassie! For jeans, I am a Gap girl. They fit me really well and I love the price point. I heard great things about Express jeans. I tried some on and loved them but they reminded me a lot of my Gap jeans so I didn't buy any.

The Friday Five

Happy, happy Friday! I am thrilled for the weekend…not only because it means I get to change back into pajamas for two days…but for the extra time to complete the mad-organizing I started on our bathroom cabinets. The Friday Five is usually a collection of five things I have my eye on, but today it also includes some blog housekeeping. So here’s this week’s Five…

I’ve sung the praises of C.Wonder before, and they are back with another of their amazing sales….use code EXTRA50 for an additional 50% off all sale items. That makes these nesting bowls a cool $22, and I spied some cute notecards for $2!

I’ve made more than a few trips to Target during my organizing episodes, especially since almost all of their storage stuff is on sale!

The Centsational Girl herself, asked me and several other bloggers to share our favorite Organization Tricks, and you can check them out here. She referred to me as ‘a savvy style blogger.’ I may just have to knit that on a pillow…thanks Kate!

Have you seen my giveaway from A Tad Monroe? It’s an amazing collection of jewels I’m dying to get my grubby hands on! The giveaway is open until tomorrow night, so don’t miss it!

ATadMonroe_HiSugarplumGiveaway

And our final piece of business….a big HUGE welcome to my newest sponsor, LoveFeast, and a GIANT welcome back to returning sponsor, Pillows by Dezign!! I’ll be making magic with gold paint this weekend, thanks to your contribution to my project fund!

The Friday Five

Happy Friday, sweet friends! I had big plans for a new {Fashion Finds} post today (where I share little gems found at unexpected stores, like here and here), but life hit the fast forward button this week, and kept me from it. So I thought I’d share a few of the items sitting in my virtual shopping cart right now, and you know cheap me, so you know they’re good deals!

friday five

1) West Elm’s Favorite Throws are on sale for $19! Hello, perfect holiday gift!
2) Nothing changes an outfit quite like adding a statement necklace. I love the green in this Max & Chloe bib necklace, and it’s a lot of bang-for-your-buck at $36. It would be fab with black-and-white stripes!
3) Asos sucked me in with their affordable accessories…like this chunky chain bracelet for only $14.
4) I live in leopard flats during the Fall, and would love some heels, too. I prefer a platform for the extra height without killing myself, so I’m considering these Calvin Klein from Zappos.

And this doesn’t actually count, since it already came home with me…but I had to share anyway! I fell down the peplum rabbit hole, and can’t seem to get enough of the flirty shape. This Mossimo Peplum Dress from Target is my new favorite…it’s super comfortable and flattering…and of course, a great price! I’ve already worn it with red heels and piles of pearls. Hopefully I can do an {Outfit Inspiration} with it soon!

friday five

I’m trying to be kind to my bank account, but my finger is itching to click that little checkout button! What are you adding to your cart these days? Happy weekend, lovebugs!
