{One Room Challenge} Week One

I’m thrilled to announce that I’m participating in Calling It Home’s {One Room Challenge}! For those of you not familiar, the ORC is an online event that brings together 20 bloggers with a love of design, and challenges them to transform a room from start to finish, while documenting the process along the way.

The kicker? We’ve only got six weeks to do it!? That’s about a tenth of the time it usually takes me! I’ve been a huge fan and follower of the series for years, but was never brave enough to take on the challenge myself. I’m already questioning why I thought I could do it now!? #whatwasIthinking #whathaveIdone But my name is on logo, so there’s no backing out now!

So let’s get to it…I waffled quite a bit as to which room to select…after all, I have a whole houseful of new spaces to design! (If you’re new to Hi Sugarplum!, you can read about our recent and unexpected move here.) And at this point, only the Kitchen has been given any real attention (see the progress of that renovation here).

I thought about the family room or one of the kid’s rooms, but then I remembered that the very last space to be transformed in our previous home was the Master Bedroom (see it here). That seems wrong, doesn’t it?! So this time, I decided to put Mr. SP, myself, and our marriage first…by starting this new chapter in our lives with the Master Bedroom!

Hi Sugarplum | Master Bedrooom Before

These are true Before shots…since they were taken the day before we moved in last month! It’s a large, glorious room with a tall tray ceiling and bay of windows overlooking the backyard and pool. I realize that sounds completely obnoxious, and trust me, I pinch myself every day for stumbling on this house! (Which hasn’t been without drama, if you recall.)

Hi Sugarplum | Master Bedrooom Before

It’s a rectangular room, with the windows on one end, and the door and bathroom on the other. And a big, dark, honking fan in the middle.

Hi Sugarplum | Master Bedrooom Before

My crude floorplans will give you a rough idea of the space.

You’d think we could just move the old room over and be done. But these new room dimensions are so different, not to mention, the new homeowners insisted on keeping all the drapes, blinds and hardware! And this pale yellow isn’t jiving with our upholstered bed and tufted chairs, so we’re pretty much back to square one.

Here’s some of the inspiration I’ve gathered for this space…

You see where I’m going, don’t you? Dark walls, light upholstered furniture, wood tones, touches of metallic, and pops of color…that’s a lot to bite off in only six weeks! Great, now I’m giddy and nauseous. I hope you’ll follow along for the ride!

Can you even believe the stellar line-up?! It’s going to be so much fun watching these creative geniuses work their magic!

  32. Excited to see what you will do in here! Love that you are going bold and doing a dark room! (I am linking up tomorrow for my first ORC, and it's funny because your plan and my plan are identical as far as our "visions" for our room, and I am doing our master. What's going to be really neat is our styles couldn't be more opposite, so seeing how two people can run with the same plan and really make it their own is going to be interesting!) Good luck these next six weeks!

Yep, your comment was indeed obnoxious, but you owned it, and that's a good thing. You do know your audience well. I do think a lot bloggers need to tone down the humble bragging. Today's blog entry could have done without that comment. Everyone gets that you are living the dream. You are changing a bit with yiur popularity, and that is natural. I just miss the old Cassie from time to time.
