I hope you guys had a fun Fall weekend, and you’re ready to show Monday who’s boss! The wallpaper went up in our {Big Box Bathroom} last week, and I can’t wait to show you how drastically it changed the room…but first I have to catch you up on the progress prior to that (we’re documenting each step)! When we left off from Day 3, the shower had been tiled, and the new floors laid.
So here we are after Day 4…shower and floors grouted, vanity, counter-top, sconces and faucets installed, planks on the wall, new baseboards and a door frame. Oh, and we have a toilet again! I told you Day 4 was a doozie!
It’s amazing how much brighter and larger the room feels with all the white, and taking the shower tile to the ceiling really opened it up even more. We chose the Style Selections 48-inch vanity and could not be happier with the quality and style. With four drawers and a cabinet, it’s essentially doubled the storage space, and the extra counter space will certainly come in handy as the kids get older.
Mr. Rockstar-Contractor patched the hole from the previous light fixture, then floated the wall to smooth out the mess left behind by the old builder-grade mirror. Once the wall planks were installed (we used 1/4-inch plywood, with a penny as the spacer between), they cut holes for the new sconces. Can you even believe those are Allen + Roth!? I did give them a quick coat of oil-rubbed bronze, but you can’t beat the price.
Oh hey there, toilet that doesn’t wobble when you sit on it!! Since the new vanity is 14-inches wider than the old one, we chose one with a narrow profile so it fits easily in the smaller space. I’ve never had a brand-new toilet, and it’s ridiculous how happy this makes me.
Instead of using tile end pieces to finish out the shower edge, we installed thin strips of wood from floor to ceiling, so it was a seamless transition from tile to wall. I’ll cover them with oil-based paint to make sure they are fully sealed from moisture.
Another strip of wood was attached at the top of the planks to give them a finished edge…I kept it small so it wouldn’t look like a ledge. I was dying to see how the mirror would look, so it’s propped up for now. Nevermind the roll of toilet paper…the kids started using the bathroom again as soon as the floor grout dried.
I love the shape of the floor tiles against all the straight lines in the room…look at those curves!!
More trim was added around the door and baseboards…the shape of the old ones didn’t fit with the new style. Plus it was easier to install the planks all the way to the floor, then add a new baseboard on top. I love a clean, simple look…so we went with basic flat boards. I wish I could replace our entire house with these!! And I only thought the door was white before…I guess that will be getting a new coat of paint, too.
The shower went from a double-knob to a single, and new faucets were installed in the sink and shower.
Can you even believe how much was done in a single day?! Reason #712 I’m so glad we brought in the pros to help us with this one!
Next up is spackling all the nail holes in the planks, and giving them a final coat of paint…as well as painting all the trim, walls and ceiling. I’m still undecided about painting the trim around the window or not…what do you think? The room looks a little stark and cold right now, but just wait…the really good stuff is coming!!

I would expect you to paint the trim a crazy pop of color in true Cassie fashion. It's looking great!
Wow!! super gorgeous!!
That wall color and floor tile combination is making me swoon!
Looks fantastic, Cassie! I'm loving the way this is shaping up.

Sorry for auto correct – YES to painting the window trim.
Denise
Yes yes yes to painting the window trim! Looks fantastic so far!
I'm dying over that toilet with the smooth sides…genius! Love the planked walls…love the dark walls and ceiling. Can't wait to see it all finished.
Looks great! What about painting the window trim same as the dark wall color… Will compliment the grout and provide contrast..,,
ooooh, now that's something I hadn't considered yet!! hmmmmm, may need to do a little mock up of that idea…thanks!!
I know this is sponsored by Lowes but will you consider doing a budget breakdown? Our entire house needs to be renovated and I am curious what kind of costs a bathroom gut like this can run if you buy your products at a big box store.
Hi Ashley! Yes ma'am…I'll source and price everything on the final reveal! The majority of our choices have come from a big box store (lowes) so that's help keep the project manageable, cost wise…but it's not fully sponsored by Lowes, so we are watching our pennies and trying to make smart choices! I'll be sure to break it all down at the end!! xo
Looking great! And for sure paint the window trim in the shower to match the title and blend in. It will give you a pretty "sky light" instead of a focus on the frame.
That mirror!!!! Everything looks so amazing so far!
LOVE!!! Where did you get that mirror from?
It's looking so good! I'm loving the contrast of the white with the dark blue and the pale natural wood! And that mirror is gorgeous!
Looks sooo beautiful! Love the paneling too. Can't wait to see it all come together!
It's all coming together so beautifully Kathy! My favorite so far is the tile floor. Cannot wait to see it with the wallpaper installed.
Ha! dumb mic! CASSIE! 🙂
I'm curious how you installed the planks, I see no nail holes! I'd love to do the same treatment in my bathroom soon!
We used an air compressor and teeny-tiny nails! But I did spackle, sand and paint over them…but there wasn't much to see!
Hi! Can you tell me how wide your wall planks are? They look great! Also, I would love the dimensions on the trim wood piece that separates the planks from the subway tile. Thanks so much!
Hi Diane! So unfortunately, we don’t live in that house anymore! We actually moved inadvertently right after that bathroom reno was complete! So sorry! xo, Cassie
