Party Dress | Day to Night

Happy Monday…I hope your weekend was grand. I’m headed home today from a fun weekend in NYC with my sisters and her friends. It was hard to say goodbye, but now we’re looking forward to her Montana wedding next month. (Lots of travel in the next few weeks…hope you like recaps and packing posts!) 😉 I’m so excited to get dressed up for the celebration, and to see my guys in tuxedos, and Babygirl in her poofy flower girl dress!

We don’t dress up often, but when we do, it’s always fun. But I hate to see a fun party dress hang lonely in the back of the closet…just waiting for a special occasion to come along. You’ve seen me do Day to Night looks here, but what about the dresses you buy for specific events, usually held at night? Yep, you can transition most party dresses for day events with the right shoe and accessory change!

The style conference I attended last month hosted the finale party on a bridge, with a band and fireworks…basically the kind of event that calls for a fun new party dress! Photographer Megan Weaver was at the conference, so I thought it’d be fun to see how a pro does it (no offense to my free in-house photographers!). You’d never know from her amazing pictures that I basically stood there just as awkwardly as always.

Why do fashion bloggers always pose in the street? Every time I see one I’m terrified they’re about to get hit by a car! But I’ll admit now they make for cool pictures.

This dress is certainly not everyday…but I loved the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and have fun with it. I like that the print and shape is feminine, but the cut-out and cage heels toughen it up.

But by adding a cardigan and flats, the dress is ready for a whole slew of more causal, daytime activities. Normally I wear sweaters draped open, but let’s face it…stomach cut-outs are pushing it anytime, especially during the day.

Party dresses are just too fun to keep locked away…kind of like nice china…what’s the point of having it if you don’t use it!? #deepthought  Here’s my, ‘this photo-shoot thing is so embarrassing’ face. Why is having your picture taken so uncomfortable?!

Obligatory Maggie photobomb.

Do you love to dress up, too? Pull those fun dresses out of hiding and wear one to brunch this weekend!

P.S. Did you notice my favorite dress is now available in cobalt blue?! And you can read my tips on self-tanners here, and how I curl and style my hair is here.

  1. Cassie, you look awesome! The dress is beautiful and, oh my word, those heels… I die! Love them. Good job posing in the street safely, too, by the way! I could never understand how so many bloggers get those street shots, either. Oh, and Maggie is adorable. So sweet.
    Here's to a great week!

I bought some heels identical to those (but in camel) at Target a few months back. They were $30. 🙂 Just an FYI for those looking for a "deal" version. 🙂 They are called the Maddie Perforated Chop Out Booties.

  11. So question!! What type of bra do you wear with the cut out?? I love the dress but I need some support!!

    • This dress actually allows for a regular bra! The cut out is below the strap, and the back is higher than the strap!

  12. I do love to dress up, and I adore this fun dress! I absolutely hate having my picture taken and am much more comfortable with the "no face" selfie 🙂 I probably need to step out of my comfort zone and bribe my daughter to be my photog this summer…

  15. I think the SAME thing about fashion bloggers! You're pretty much the only person who posts outfits that I enjoy. For reals.
