Trip Report | 48 Hours in Copenhagen

Thanks so much for all your great suggestions on new Netflix shows and other fun stuff in yesterday’s Ramblings post! Hearing from you guys makes this feel like a real community, and I love that. I hope you know I treasure your comments, and so appreciate when you include me in your day. I know life is bananas, so thank you for taking a moment to stop in here.

I’m mad-dash packing for a quickie trip with my blogger-wife this afternoon. We’ve been invited to attend the Better Homes & Gardens Stylemaker Event in NYC for the third year in a row, and I couldn’t be more flattered. Or excited to spend a little time in the city! We’re actually staying in Brooklyn this year, so if you have any must-eat-see spots there, I’d love to hear them!

But today on the blog, we’re taking a trip Copenhagen! When Princess Cruises invited us to explore Scandinavia, it took all of two seconds to agree. I mean really, all I had to do was glance at the itinerary…Sweden, Norway, Russia…count me in! And the beauty of cruising is you only have to unpack once and see seven countries! Which is exactly what we did (see them all here).

Then when I realized the trip disembarked in Copenhagen, I knew we’d have to spend a few extra days before heading home. And of course we fell completely in love with the undeniably charming and colorful city. It’s a goldmine for design, cafes, parks, and more!

The most recognizable area of town is undoubtedly Nyhavn, with its rows of candy-colored buildings and sidewalk cafes. Grab an ice cream and stroll up and down both sides of the canal, but go early or late, because it gets packed!

Like the rest of Scandinavia in Spring, we had some chilly, cloudy days, and some warm, sunny days. Layers were key, and of course I fit right in with my brights! These sneakers were perfect for long days of walking, plus, dirt wiped right off. (I sized down half-size.)

We spent much of our time with these two cuties. Not only does Princess Cruises allow us to see the world, but they introduced us to some of our dearest friends! It is so much fun traveling with this great group (see them all here)!

{Can’t Miss Spots}

Nyhavn ~ A bustling canal lined with cafes, street music & candy-colored buildings.

Rosenborg Castle & Botanical Gardens ~ Huge open park with manicured lawns, an abundance of flowers, and a lovely greenhouse.

Hay House ~ Good design is just a way of life here, and this shop, overlooking the square, is the stuff of dreams! I wanted to take everything home with me, but settled on some smaller accessories like candles and gold nail clippers. Because why not?!

Illumes Bolighus ~ While strolling through Hay House, I caught a whiff of the most magical perfume, and literally hunted down the lady wearing it. And keep in mind I don’t even wear perfume! But my nosiness #punny paid off, because she directed us to this department store that can not be missed. And yes, I bought the perfume and it makes me unbelievably happy every time I wear it!

Sugarplum Travel Tip: Copenhagen is fairly small, so walking (or biking) are easy ways to get around. There’s also great public transportation if you need to get somewhere quickly, but the city is best discovered by wandering.ย

{Where We Ate}
Kompa9 ~ Like a little piece of quaint heaven…go for brunch or a mid-day warm-up of cappuccino & pastries.

Blod Hat ~ Set just below street-level, this cozy corner spot was bursting with locals, live music, and the best charcuterie platters!

Cafe Norden ~ This two-story spot is the definition of hyyge, and overlooks the main shopping area. We perched for hours in the cushioned window seats with steaming bowls of soup, and never wanted to leave.

Torvehallerne ~ An indoor/outdoor market withย over 60 stands selling everything from fresh fish and meat to gourmet chocolate and exotic spices, as well as small places where you can have a quick bite to eat.

{Where We Stayed}
Hotel Danmark ~ I owe this gem to the clever Cassie! It’s brand-new with impeccable service and comfy rooms, but even better, is the ideal location. It’s steps from Tivoli Gardensย (the popular theme park), and all the charm of central Copenhagen. They have bikes available, and the most amazing breakfast spread I’ve ever experienced at a hotel! I 100% recommend this lovely hotel.

We barely skimmed the surface in our short visit, but it was a glorious 36-hours, and I highly recommend you add this magical city to your short list!
