The Friday Five

You guys are the absolute sweetest!! You made my week with all your kind birthday comments and well-wishes. And I’m thrilled to hear I’m not the only one obsessed with the kitten-cardi! 😉 From the sound of it, many of you have a full-blown collection of them!

In typical Texas-style, earlier this week we were enjoying 70-degree days, and last night it was 21!! That is serious and legit cold weather…I don’t care where you live! We’ll certainly warm up again, but there’s no more straddling the line between seasons anymore…it’s sweater time!

1) I’ve seen a lot of sweater dresses this season, and I love them paired with a vest and tall boots. And cozy scarf #duh. It’s a really pulled together look, but is still comfortable and casual. Do you have any sweater dresses? The color-blocking is fun on this one, and the price is right on.

Fall Sweater Dress

2) This arctic blast kind of caught us off-guard, and when we went to pull out last year’s Winter gear, we discovered it no longer fit! Darn kids and their constant growing!! Of course I immediately hopped online and pulled up Nordstrom’s Cold Weather Shop, then clicked over to the ‘sales’ tab. My daughter found a coat that’s ‘not too poofy’, and a cute hat and gloves set that she actually agreed to wear. Then she spotted hot pink Hunter wellies, and I totally caved and got them for her. Have I completely lost my mind?! #dontanswerthat Please tell me these boots are worth it!!

Cold Weater Kid

3) We actually had several snow and ice days last year, and none of knew what to wear…especially on our feet! I spotted lots of cute options to help keep our little people warm. Aren’t the bright colors so fun?

4) Along with your seriously nice birthday wishes on Wednesday’s post, I got a lot of questions about my lipstick color and hair. The lipstick is Mac ‘Insanely It.’  I’m usually a drugstore make-up girl, but I couldn’t resist this color, and I’ve had the same tube for years! As for my hair…it’s a hot-mess right now and long overdue for a cut, but if I can get my act together, I’m planning a tutorial for how I style it on Monday. So get your curling irons and hairspray ready!

5) I had so much doing last week’s Save vs. Splurge, I thought I’d find another for you…and it didn’t take long! While browsing sweater dresses for the moodboard, I fell for this one…but couldn’t even believe the ridiculous price (no offense if you own a $500 sweater dress!). But truthfully, I prefer the Save version much better…the shape is more flattering by hiding all the lady-lumps. It also comes in red and pink.

Hi Sugarplum | Splurge vs Save Sweater Dress

We’ll be celebrating this weekend, and trying to stay warm! Thank you, friends, for such an amazing week…and don’t forget to enter the sweet giveaway! Happy weekend, lovebugs!

You have not lost your mind! I thought I may have when I ordered Hunters for my daughter (while I'm still lusting for a pair for myself) but she has more than gotten my money worth out of them! She absolutely loves them and wears them ALL the time. Plus, they hold up SO well. Money well spent in my book! Or maybe that's just my way of rationalizing my craziness. 🙂

The Friday Five

Happy Valentine’s Day, my sweets! We don’t make much of a fuss over this holiday, so we don’t have big plans, other than to spend it together. This is my one chance to choose a chick-flick, so I might jump at that. The Notebook, anyone?!

1) Pink and red is a favorite color combo all-year, but especially today. I created this outfit to show how easy it is to pair the two colors without looking too sweet.

Pink & Red
2) Brittany made this gorgeous DIY Zebra Rug. Yes, made. You won’t even believe what she used. I’m dying over the gorgeous metallic sheen!

3) You guys were crazy about this maxi dress I posted yesterday. I thought about getting it, but was worried it’d be too long for my vertical limitations. (Code: I’m a shortie.) So I found this cute one with fun metallic neckline, in a Petite size, for those under 5’4″….which hopefully means I could wear it without needing stripper heels. I’ve never worn a maxi dress, but Caycee always looks so cute in hers, that I’m considering them!

4) There’s no question the way to my heart is chocolate…and a funny joke. If the Mister figured a way to bring this Chocolate & Strawberry Jam Tart to me, while making me laugh, let’s just say I’d make it worth his while. Can you even stand all that oozing yumminess?! This might be the only instance using the word ‘oozing’ is acceptable.

5) Speaking of Mr. Sugarplum…want to get the story behind this picture? It involves 50,000 screaming Canadians and the one-and-only-time I’ve been speechless. Beth included me in her fun Valentine series, so hop over here to read all about how Mr. SP and I met, the proposal, the wedding, and more!

How’d your sweetie propose? Or are you hoping he will tonight?! However you’re spending the evening, I hope it’s a sweet one! Happy weekend, lovebugs!

Pssst…don’t forget about the trip to NYC + $5,000 cash that Kleenex is giving away!

And fourth, that picture of you two taken this year makes me hate your guts. You are so stinkin' tiny! I'm not sure we can be friends any more…

The Friday Five

Welcome Friday — so glad you’re here! We plan to spend the weekend spoiling Mr. Sugarplum…the best Baby Daddy I could have wished for….and snuggling on our son before he flies out-of-town. He leaves Wednesday for his annual two week visit with grandparents in Michigan.

To take my mind off him flying alone, I’ve got some fun things to share with you for today’s Friday Five.

1) I posted about the super-cute Sam Edelman sandals here, and also showed you Target’s version for less than half the price. Well, of course I went for the cheaper ones, and am so thrilled with the comfort and quality of them. I even tried the Sam Edelman’s on at Nordstrom last week, and they look almost identical…except Sam & Libby’s have a cushier bottom. TWSS Sandals don’t last more than a season or two for me, so I don’t like to spend much on them. If you keep yours longer, I’d probably go for these.

I also scored this pair (you know, had to order two so I could get free shipping!), and can’t even believe how high-end they look! It’s hard to tell in the picture, but the toe and strap are shiny gold…perfect for giving an outfit a shot of class. The bone color is also a great neutral, and I much prefer it to white. These are definitely my two favorite Summer sandals, and will be in heavy rotation!

2) The sweet and uber-organized Jen of I Heart Organizing fame, asked all her contributors for tips on cleaning and organizing around the house. She posted the mega round-up, and it is seriously good. I’m taking notes, for sure!

3) West Elm just sent out a sneak peek of their New Arrivals…and they are killing it! I’ve got my eye on some drapes and that industrial light. And thanks to a few puppy ‘accidents’ when my parents stayed at our house, we’re in the market for a new Family Room rug. The dhurrie might have my name on it.

4) Speaking of rugs…I think I need to enter this contest! Flooring America and Flooring Canada are hosting a really cool contest, with the winner receiving $5000 in Tigressá Cherish Carpet—a luxuriously soft, durable and eco-friendly carpet. Hello…that’s some nice carpet!!

To enter, follow them on Pinterest, and build your “Dream Room” board featuring Tigressá Carpet, then go to Flooring America to fill out the entry form. You need to hurry though, the contest ends June 23. You could be the winner of new carpet by next week!

5) I teased this shot last week on InstaGram (@cassiesugarplum) about a little photo-shoot happening at my house. The Dallas Morning News is running a feature about wondrous washi tape…and had me create several projects with it. I just got the word that it’s scheduled for tomorrow’s Life & Style section, so if you’re local, check it out! I’ll share the fun projects with the rest of you next week.

Happy Father’s Day to my man, my best friend, my luvah! And a happy birthday to my crazy-talented aunt, who is my sanity-saving sidekick on all my big projects, and my sounding board for the rest of them.

Happy weekend, lovebugs!
