Well friends, the day has come…we move Sloan in to her dorm today. We’ve planned and prepared all the college and dorm essentials (see them HERE), but I’m not so sure my heart is ready.
I know she is going to soar, and I’m thrilled to watch her blossom in this new, independent way… but I’m going to miss her so freaking much! The anticipation of this move has been weighing on me for several weeks, so part of me is ready to just get on with it already, and then I can begin the process of learning life without the day-to-day parenting.
Mr. Sugarplum and I planned a little getaway for later this month… initially it was to be a distraction from my grief, and something to look forward to… but lately I’ve decided to change my perspective about the whole process.
Rather than a pity-party, cry-fest into my margarita about the end of this parenting season, we’re going to celebrate ourselves and each other for raising two great kids for the last 23 years! I think unselfishly dedicating your life to other humans every single day deserves a celebration, don’t you agree?!
After all, we celebrate graduations, retirements, milestone birthdays, marriages, and new babies… celebrating unselfish parenthood should be a thing, too! Just my thoughts today, as I load our car with a heavy heart.
