Happy Friday, friends, and cheers to the weekend! I mean, I think it’s Friday… I’ve been so off my days all week! It definitely takes a minute to find a new rhythm during Summer Break!
But I’m so excited for the coming months… between our anniversary and Mr. College’s 21st birthday, we have lots to celebrate. I also just booked our family trip and I’m already counting down the days. It’s been years since we traveled as a foursome! We’re headed to Maui for the first time, so leave me all your tips and favorite spots!

I shared in my random This & That post HERE that my beloved CalPak finally retired, and I replaced it with this highly rated luggage set. It’s only been on one trip (albeit an eventful one!), but I’m already a fan! It’s sturdy and lightweight, rolls like a champ, the handle slides up and down easily, and the zippers are strong! My only wish is that I’d bought it in this pink color!
This is pretty much my go-to travel combo (plus these packing cubes and these clear toiletry organizers)!

We LOVE Maui! One of the best things we’ve ever done is take a helicopter tour (we booked with Pacific Helicopter Tours). It was absolutely breathtaking! Mama’s Fish House is fantastic, too. Can’t wait to hear about your adventures!

Thanks for your consistently thoughtful and informative posts. We took our kids to Maui a few years ago (we have a son/daughter same ages as yours). Here are 3 of their favorite things from that trip: (1) luau – Feast of Lele in Lahaina; (2) best meal – Mama’s Fish House – incredible location and food; (3) private surfing lesson with Maui Beach Boys at Kalama park in Kihei.

For Maui- Hana Highway. Be sure to download app that narrates what you are seeing and suggests places to stop along the way. Ask the park ranger if road conditions allow for travel from town of Hana for trip back in the south side. Definitely worth it if you can go that route!!! Enjoy

We went to Maui last summer with our kids and both sets of grandparents! You’ll love it!
We stayed at the Westin Nanea Ocean Villas – best snorkeling on the island …. We swam with/near (but not too near!) a sea turtle! Dinner at Kimo’s is delicious, but be careful not to sit too close to the musician if they have one. He only played for about 30 minutes, but it was impossible to have a conversation b/c we were so close.
You MUST go to the Nakalele Blowhole … it’s INCREDIBLE. It’s a little bit of a hike and you’ll need good shoes like keens/chacos or a tennis shoe that can get wet. The rocks are slippery and SHARP. But the blow hole is SO worth it!
We hired a driver (Gus with holoholo maui tours) to drive us on the Road to Hana – we did the half day trip which was plenty. He had lots of cool info to share and since he was driving, we all were able to enjoy it. Lots of stops to jump off cliffs into the water to cool off. Pack towels, snacks.
We also went parasailing (UFO Chuting of Hawaii) and loved seeing the water from above.
The drive to Haleakala was incredible … we had to check out of our hotel room at 10am but our flight wasn’t until late at night so that was a great way to fill the day. Again, you’ll want somewhat sturdy shoes. Had lunch in Paia on the way to the airport.
The La Perouse Lava Fields were also WAY cool!

This was a great post! Random questions – what size of the Amazon suitcase is a carry-on? 21”? Also, the Calpak suitcase (22”) says it must be checked in the description but you were always able to carry-on, correct? And finally, where do you put the clipped on hat on the plane? Does it go on top of your suitcase in your bin? Or do you wear it? 😂

Hi Jody! Yes, it’s the 21 inch suitcase from the Amazon Basics set that I carried on!
And I’m not sure why the Nordstrom listing says that… I’ve carried my CalPak on to many a flight! Check out the listing on the CalPak website (https://bit.ly/3timnFg)… maybe that one is more helpful.
The clipped hat stays on my personal item and goes under the seat in front of me. I don’t think they’d let you take up more overhead bin space with a hat, ha!
We went to Maui in January and it was AMAZING! We stayed in Wailea, such a gorgeous area! Highly recommend the sunrise tour of Haleakala (make sure to reserve in advance) and doing a waterfall rain forest hike! Couldn’t get over how many sea turtles we saw when on a drive around the coast and enjoy the amazing fresh fruit! Eating at Monkeypod is always a must too (I could eat the fish tacos every. single.day!) Enjoy!

Oh, wow, Maui! This will not be your last trip there-so pace yourself, people! So much to see/do. You must check out the whole dang place, ha,ha. Have stayed in condos, and grrreat resorts. The hardest part will be leaving when you look down from the plane and see this gorgeous, lush island.
First stop from the airport-Jamba Juice to refuel.
Endless, great beaches, too many to list-I guess I would say all of them. Consider the book, “Maui Revealed”. And, too many great eateries to list. Loved Maui Tacos (strip mall!) w/it’s awesome salsa bar-pineapple, mango! Amazing sunsets, everywhere.
Great surf lessons on Kaanapali Beach (tip $)-the kids will sleep really well that night, ha,ha.
Dining/shopping in Lahaina. The Grand Wailea resort, whoa. The suite was as big as my house! Best souvenirs- Longs Drug Stores (not kidding!) and ABC stores.
The Art School at Kapalua, if it’s still there. Great fun painting seascapes on the beach.
Get into some Hawaiian culture, not hard to find. Awesome snorkeling in a little cove next to Napili Point resort.
See all the (beach) photos on Google map- a big help. Waters will be warmest in small bays and coves vs. the open ocean. Take reef shoes/sandals for hot sand and lava rocks along some shores. The beach at Kehei! There are no bad beaches on Maui! Oh! And the charming towns of Paia, and Haiku (road trip!) Someone has a fence made of old surfboards up there!
A big boat tour from the Ocean Center (and aquarium) will take you to Molokini for snorkeling along the crest of a volcano. A -blast- to jump off a big boat. I’m leaving some great stuff out, for your sake, ha,ha. Will let you go……….
