Laundry Room | The Reveal

Thanks for the love and well wishes on yesterday’s Date Night Style post! Hard to believe we were floating in the middle of the Baltic Sea for that…and even harder to believe Mr. SP and I have been together so long! I told him last night I wasn’t sure I could go another 19 years…fortunately he knew I was kidding, and then he said something about me not being a ray of sunshine everyday either. Ha! #whatever #Igotyoursunshine

But then his therapist side kicked in, and he said, ‘Just one day at a time, baby.’ I may have rolled my eyes a little, but, he’s right…one day at a time is a lot easier to wrap my head around!

But enough unsolicited marriage chatter…let’s get to today’s post. It’s been a year in the making, but we finally completed the Laundry Room makeover, and I can safely say, this bright space has completely changed my attitude about laundry!

Rope Pulls | Basket | Towels | Subway Tile

We completed the Mudroom side first (see it here), and I fully expected to add a large pop of color before revealing the rest of the room…either on the window or with a painted ceiling. But once the final touches were installed, I realized I actually loved the bright white! It really allows the floors to take center stage, and since it’s a room prone to clutter anyway, the white helps minimize that. Or least, the appearance of it!

To make room for the taller washing machine, we raised the cabinets to the ceiling…which made reaching them a little tricky. These rope pulls solved that issue, and add some warmth and texture to the room. Adding the shelf along the back of the washer and dryer created more work space, and gave the top-loading unit more of a built-in look.

Side-Tie Shirt | White Jeans | Hoop Earrings | Similar Espadrilles | Laundry Basket

Rope Pulls | Planter

The oversized sink and faucet is perfect for big messes…like muddy boots, art projects, and dogs! We also tiled the entire wall as added splash protection.

Laundry Basket  | Dog Bowls

Even Miss Maggie got her own customized spot for food, water and treats.

Bin with Flip-Top Lid (available in three sizes) Black Hex Tile | White Hex Tile

I wish I could say the Mudroom side still looked like this, but now it’s heaped with the remnants of a busy school year. I’m just thrilled to not be tripping over it any longer!

Carving out a centralized Command Center has been so helpful in keeping track of papers, invitations, and other important family ‘stuff.’ (Why does there have to be so much stuuuuufffffff?!?!)

Corkboard | Wall Filing System

Cleaning supplies are tucked behind the door, and kept organized and easy-to-reach with a nifty Elfa system.

We can’t have a reveal post without a Before and After…so just to remind you where we started with this room…

laundry room makeover

This room is really visible from the Kitchen and Breakfast Room, so the door always stayed closed…now I leave it wide open and pause to smile pretty much every time I walk by! Ironing has even taken on a whole new joy! Kind of.

Are you surprised to see a Sugarplum makeover not hosed down in color? I’m just as surprised as you, but completely smitten, and think the white is here to stay!

Beautiful room, Cassie! How do you like the charging pad? Does it work if you have a phone case on?

  7. Looks great! Love all the storage and organization! I wish I looked that cute when I did laundry, but I usually save it for the weekends when I look like a total scrub! 😉 I think my favorite details of this space are the IKEA light fixture and the rope pulls on the cabinets. I never would have thought of a rope pull but it looks great!

Looks so clean and bright and fresh! What plant do you have in your IKEA planter? We have a similar facing window in our laundry room and it would be nice to have something natural in there.

Cassie, everything looks amazing!! We are in the middle of our laundry room reno and we have a very similar setup. I want the same type of shelf behind our washer/dryer and my husband hasn’t been able to come up with a good plan that will be sturdy enough and fit in with subway tile backsplash. Can you share what you did for the shelf? Thanks! Sandy

    Posted 6.20.17 Reply
    • Cassie wrote:

Thanks so much, Sandy! It’s just a basic shelf affixed to the wall with a few L-brackets, and it extends down one side to give it more sturdiness. We customized the width so it exactly fit covered the back of the washer/dryer, and added a wide trim to make it look chunkier. Hope that helps!

      • Thanks – I was just going to ask the same question until I saw you answered it here! Did you move any of the water hookups or electrical outlets or did you just hide them behind the shelf? We have the same setup and my contractor told me that he wouldn’t move anything because the water hookups are supposed to be a certain height. Thanks – love the room!

        • Cassie wrote:

Thanks Shelley!! We didn’t move any plumbing…the shelf also helped to conceal all those hookups! (Which, unfortunately, were still visible even after adding the taller appliances!! Why do builders do that?!?) We did add two electrical outlets to the Mudroom side for charging, iron, etc.
