Happy almost-Friday, friends! We’re headed home from LA tomorrow, so I’m bringing you this week’s Dressing Room Diaries a day early! Have you been following behind-the-scenes on my Instagram Story? If so, any ideas the theme of this next Gibson x Hi Sugarplum Collection?

Today I’m excited to share a new Dressing Room Diaries with Mama Sugarplum, and it’s a GOOD one. New seasonal pieces are really rolling in now, and the retailers are bringing their A-games! I looked for pieces suitable for the transitional season ahead.

You know the drill with Dressing Room Diaries…I hunt down some of the cutest items from my favorite retailers, and review them for you. As usual, the shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, and I’m in desperate need of a hairbrush. But it’s real life, real girl, real clothes…and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model. So let’s get started!

Fit Note: I’m 5’4″-ish, 120 pounds-ish (depending on the week’s taco count), with a slight pear shape. My usual size is XS/0. Mama Sugarplum is 5’1″, with an hourglass figure, and her usual size is XS/2p.

 

Tees //

You guys are loving the graphic tees lately, so let’s start with some fun new ones! I love them on their own now, and layered under jackets and blazers once Fall arrives. There’s something casually cool about them, don’t you think? This ‘Good Vibes’ is simple and chic, and the cotton a super-soft stretchy knit.

How fun are both of these?! I love the graphic black and white, and the phrasing is fun without being kitschy. We’ll talk about those leopard jeans in a second!

Shirts & Blouses //

Moving on to blouses, I’ve got some darling new finds perfect for workwear. I love the feminine print of this multi-color floral, and subtle gathering on the shoulder for a slight puff sleeve. Plus, the side-tie is a fun addition. Tuck it in to high-waisted pants for work, or wear it with jeans and flats for weekends.

I love the smaller scale of leopard print on this cap sleeve blouse. It’s an oversized fit, perfect for slim trousers or a pencil skirt. So cute with jeans and flats, too.

This split neck pullover is made of buttery-soft knit in a great medium weight. It’s seriously as soft as baby’s pajamas, but in a cute pullover for jeans, shorts, and pants.

Sweaters & Tunics //

Who’s ready for sweater weather? Or better yet, leggings season!? I do a tunic post every year (see one here), and it’s always a reader favorite, so clearly we all love our leggings! This knit tunic is soft and lightweight with a fun split neck and side slits. It has a sport style, so it’s cute paired with sneakers, too.

This tunic is extra-cozy thanks to the textured boucle knit. Great v-neck with slight side slits, wear it with leggings and knee boots, or jeans and flats. It’s a medium weight that would be cute layered over a collared shirt, too.

I love a poncho in Fall, but it has to have sleeves or I walk around with my elbows pressed awkwardly to my sides! This pullover has a poncho style, but with dolman sleeves. Honestly, our picture only does the color justice, you have to see the shape on their website! It’s also super soft and cozy.

I bought this collared sweater weeks ago, and am just counting down the days until I can wear it. The sweater is textured and stretchy, with a crisp leopard collar.

Mom found a similar sweater, this one a thick knit body and the collar is removable, thanks to little buttons.

This mixed media top is a great transitional piece…lightweight material with a fun fall floral. You have to see the back!

Skirts & Pants //

Okay, now let’s chat bottoms…I found some really fun skirts and pants for transitioning to Fall and beyond. Starting with this graphic skirt in the best shades of pumpkin, black and ivory. It has great movement and a modest length just below the knee. It easily dresses up for work with heels and a blazer, or just pair it with a t-shirt for a casual weekend style.

The polka dots are actually a lightweight cardigan, tucked and worn as a top!

This bold skirt is a fun zebra meets leopard print, in great fall shades. It’s a pull-on style with elastic waist, and the mini pleats give it a polished look. I just have it with a white tee, but would love it with a black cami for evening, and add a blazer for work.

I’m actually wearing these joggers as we speak…they’re one of my favorite lounge pieces! The perfect cozy fleece that Gibson does so well, with a drawstring waist and relaxed fit. I had to grab a new color with the amazing sale price. I love them with sneakers and a jean jacket for travel, too!

Leopard mania continues (see more of my top leopard picks in the last DRD here) with these amazing pants. A pull-on style with elastic in the back, they’re a lightweight, silky material that drape beautifully. I love the cropped length for pairing with sandals, flats or heels. Pair them with black, white, pink and chambray, and dress them up or down for work and weekend.

Another leopard option, this time in a sassy denim. These skinnies are form-fitting with just the slightest touch of stretch, and a great cropped length for sneakers or booties.

Mom wholeheartedly said she’d wear them, too, but would tone them down with a black top and jean jacket.

Another great workwear blouse, this top has the sweetest tulip sleeve and gorgeous jewel tone colors. I love the feminine gathers across the shoulder. I paired it with classic high-waist pants with a tie waist…a darling workwear trouser made of stretchy crepe.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS and it’s a little big, so size down if in-between. I sized up one in the pants to a small.

Blazers & Jackets //

Mom fell hard for this sweater blazer with sporty stripes on the sleeves. A great medium weight, it adds easy chic to basic denim outfits. She paired it with polka dots for a fun pattern mix.

Fit Tip: She’s wearing an XS, but would prefer a petite.

Striped Cuff Blazer | Star Tee | Dark Wash Jeans

 

This has been my favorite blazer for the last year (I have it in white), and I’ve been trying to decide what color to add. I finally decided on black, and I’ve already worn it to dinner twice! It fits like a glove and is not only crazy chic, but insanely comfy thanks to the thick, stretchy knit. It’s so easy to throw on with jeans, skirts and trousers, and instantly transforms an outfit. Definitely a must-have for your Fall to Spring wardrobe!

Fit Tip: I size down for a shrunken fit, I’m wearing an XS-petite.

Hello, darling pink! Another great-fitting blazer, this one is a wool-blend herringbone in the cutest shade of pink. It’s fully-lined with a shrunken schoolboy fit. The fabric and darker hue make it perfect for Fall and Winter wear, and it’s so cute for work or weekend.

One of my favorite long cardigans, now in new colors! I love the long length, cozy soft feel, and lightweight. Perfect for transition weather! Oh, and love the hood!

My favorite jacket from the NSale is back in both colors, and cuter than I remember it! This jacket alone has me excited for cooler weather! It has the style of a military jacket, but quilted for a little extra warmth. I love both the blush and gray tones.

Speaking of utility jackets, Mom found this cute one and swooned all over it! And how cute that she paired it with camo jeans!? I think my camo love is finally rubbling off on her!

Old Navy makes an amazing utility jacket…I’m up to four colors now! This year’s version is actually their sturdiest yet, with a thick canvas cotton. It still has a drawstring waist for adjustable, more feminine fit, and a slew of great colors.
