Cheers to Friday, friends, and the weekend ahead! I’m so ready for the weekend I could weep! Honestly, you know I love to travel…but four states in two weeks was a little much. It doesn’t help that I picked up a cold early on, and can’t seem to shake it. Mr. SP might smother me in my sleep if I don’t stop coughing! #kidding #kindof
Today I’m excited to bring you an all-new Dressing Room Diaries, and this is a particularly good one! In fact, maybe a little too good since I ended up keeping several things for myself! #oops I hope you like cardigans, because this is a cardi-party!
You know the drill with Dressing Room Diaries…I hunt down some of the cutest items from my favorite retailers, and review them for you. As usual, the shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, and I’m in desperate need of a hairbrush. Many of the items aren’t a good fit for me…but it’s real life, real girl, real clothes…and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model. So let’s get started!
Fit Note: I’m 5’4″-ish, 120 pounds-ish (depending on the week’s taco count), with a slight pear shape. My usual size is XS/0.
I am a cardigan-junkie during the Fall and Winter months, and the cuddlier the better! I end up wearing them over dresses, with jeans, and even with my pajama pants around the house. This oversized one is super-soft, with a cute ribbed edging that can lay flat, or fold for a shawl collar. It also has pockets and a longer length. Bonus is the under $50 price tag!
Fit Tip: It runs large, so I sized down to an XXS. It also launders well on delicate cycle.
Ribbed Trim Long Cardigan | Fave Tee | Jeans | Booties (on sale!)
It’s so good, I already grabbed it in black.
Ribbed Trim Long Cardigan | Fave Tee | Jeans | Booties (on sale!)
Another amazing cardigan find is this ribbed grampa option. It’s not quite as long as the first, and fits closer to the body (so it’s easier to dress up!). I was hoping I wouldn’t like it, because #cardiganhoarder, but unfortunately, I love it as much as the first. You can’t go wrong with either (or both), and you’ll be thrilled with them all season.
Now let’s talk about these camo pants! They are the same fit and style as my favorite cargo pants, but in a subtle camo pattern. I love that the camo isn’t too ‘in your face’, making them more neutral…and they are soft as butter and so stretchy.
Fit Tip: The cardigan is true to size, and I’m wearing an XS. The pants are true, but I go with petite sizing for a cropped ankle length…I’m wearing 26P.
Grandpa Cardigan | Fave Tee | Camo Cargo Pants | Boots (20% off!)
I certainly didn’t expect to love this cardigan, because usually chenille is not my fabric of choice…but I danced around a little when I slipped on this cute hooded number! The chenille is super-soft and thick, and the weave is fairly large (so it’s not necessarily that warm), but the color, length and pockets make it perfect for throwing on with jeans and a tee. And hello, who can resist a hood?!
Fit Tip: It’s true to size, I’m wearing an XS.
Chenille Hooded Cardigan | Fave Tee | Distressed Jeans | Boots (20% off!)
My sweater luck continued with this softer-than-soft turtleneck sweater! I love a slightly oversized turtleneck for cold months, and this one is soft enough to wear alone, and the neck is perfectly relaxed (no choking or suffocating to pull it on!). The length and side-slit keep it from looking sloppy.
Fit Tip: It’s true to size, I’m wearing an XS.
Relaxed Turtleneck Sweater | Jeans | Booties (on sale!) | Monogrammed Tote
Y’all, the struggle was real this Dressing Room Diaries!! I usually love the items I share and review, but am able to walk away. I wasn’t so lucky this time, and the turtleneck came home with me in this soft ivory, too. But look how cute it is with these camo pants! And can’t you picture it with jeans and knee boots?!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS sweater, and 26P pants.Â
Relaxed Turtleneck Sweater | Camo Cargo Pants | Booties (on sale!)
Moving on to more fun sweater options, this one with a slight bell sleeve and a classic funnel neck. The shape is a little boxy, but fitted enough through the shoulders to still be flattering. Big sleeves are the rage this season, but I can’t wear anything that interferes with my taco habit…and I’m notorious for dragging sleeves through the salsa bowl! #tacofoul The fabric is soft enough to wear alone, and would be super warm layered over a shirt.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS in the sweater and 0 in the denim leggings.
Split-Sleeve Funnel Neck Sweater | Denim Leggings | Peep Toe Booties | Striped Earrings
This pullover is a soft knit with a rounded v-neck. The fabric is thick enough to wear alone, but would also tuck into skirts and slacks beautifully. It comes in some great colors, and is fitted through the shoulders.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, which is great for pairing it with workwear. If I were to wear it mostly with jeans though, I’d probably size up for a more relaxed fit.
Rounded V-Neck Sweater  | Denim Leggings | Peep Toe Booties | Striped Earrings
I love the fit and feel of this striped pullover. It has a rounded hem and longer back, so it looks great untucked, and the knit gives it a nice, relaxed drape.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but petite sizing is available. It would also make a great tunic with leggings if you sized up one.
Striped High-Low Top | Distressed Jeans | Boots (20% off!)
I think I’ve actually shown you this peplum tee before (styled in my Camo Post), but I love the black and tan stripes for Fall! It feels like your favorite thick tee, and the peplum hits low enough to avoid the maternity look.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a regular XS.
Striped Peplum Tee |  Jeans | Booties (on sale!)
I love a good hoodie in the Fall, and can see this layered under a jean jacket with sneakers, or even worn with workout leggings. The hood and pouch pocket make it sporty, and the marled knit keep it pajama-soft.
Fit Tip: I sized up for relaxed fit and am wearing an XS.
Pullover Hoodie |  Jeans | Booties (on sale!) | Monogrammed Tote
This top reminded me of Mama SP (we’re shopping together this weekend, so stay tuned for that post soon!)…she’s a sucker for stripes, too, but especially loves birds. This embroidered top is thick cotton with peplum sleeves and a pretty embroidered touch on the chest. You could even dress it up for work with slacks or a skirt.
Fit Tip: It runs a little wide, I’m wearing an XS.
Embroidered Striped Top |Â Distressed Jeans | Sandals
This henley blouse has a relaxed, flowy fit with roll-tab sleeves for added style. The v-neck is a little low, so you may need to pair it with a cami, and the material is thick and silky. I paired it with my favorite bootcut jeans, but would also wear it untucked with leggings or skinny jeans.
Fit Tip: It’s an oversized fit, I’m wearing an XS. The jeans are true, and I’m wearing a 0.
Velvet is trending this season, and this sporty bomber is a fun, inexpensive way to add it to your wardrobe. You could certainly dress it up, but it’s plenty fun with just a simple white tee!
Fit Tip: You want a slim fit in a bomber (especially if worn with a dress or skirt), so I’m wearing an XS.
Embroidered Velvet Bomber Jacket |Â Distressed Jeans | Cognac Boots
Finding a good moto jacket can be tricky…especially since so many lean to the biker vibe. Which is fine if you’re riding to the Danger Zone (reference anyone?!), but not if you prefer a feminine silhouette. This faux-leather nails it, and not just because of the soft blush pink, but also the slim fit through the shoulders and torso. And it looks completely real in person! So cute with dresses, skirts and jeans.
Fit Tip: It’s true to size, I’m wearing a 0
Blush Pink Faux-Leather Moto Jacket | Black Jeans
This dress was actually a reader request! She spotted it online and asked me to review before taking the plunge herself (I can’t guarantee to always make that happen!). And I really liked the shape and sleeves, but did find it ran small and a little short. So definitely size up one, but then jazz it up for parties, or keep it simple for work, and you’ve got a great, versatile dress!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, which was a bit snug across my ‘full’ bottom.
Bell Sleeve Dress | Monogrammed Tote
My mom will definitely swoon over me in this dress…she loves me in anything with a little puff sleeve and flounce hem! It’s thick with a tweed-like pattern, but soft and stretchy. I love the longer sleeve length, and the little puff makes it so feminine. It’d be cute with black tights when it gets cold, too.
Fit Tip: It runs a little wide, this XS felt too big…but I do prefer the length of this regular size (vs petite).
Plaid Knit Dress  | Peep Toe Booties | Striped Earrings
Surely you recognize this shirtdress by now?! I’ve styled it here and here, and also have it in navy! The fact that I already own it in three colors is the only way I was able to walk away from this new olive shade. But don’t think it was easy. You just can’t go wrong with this flattering, easy-to-wear dress this Fall!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS.
Crepe Shirtdress | Booties (on sale!) | Monogrammed Tote
This dress quickly became a reader-favorite, and so many agreed that it has some sort of magic powers. Seriously, it’s like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants…except it’s a dress. But it has a way of disguising last nights tacos, and creating a flattering hourglass shape. The hemline also works wonders for elongating your legs. It’s cute with a long cardigan (see that here), a military jacket, and even a jean jacket and sneakers!
Fit Tip: I size up to a small for a less body-con fit.
I’m so smitten with the ruched tank dress, how could I resist trying the new long-sleeve version? It has the same magical powers and flattering fit, but with sleeves, so it’s great for wearing alone in cooler months. It comes in a ton of great colors, and is under $60!
Fit Tip: I sized up to a small in this one, too.

There are so many colours of the shirtdress! I think I’ve seen you wear it in black, in grey and now in olive. I can see why – it’s my favourite too, I’d definitely get multiple colours as well!

I really want to take the leap with the ruched long sleeve dress! Now to decide what color! Thanks for all of the great fashion inspiration!
So, so many super cute looks here. All these sweaters say-“Hug Me!”
The relaxed turtleneck.
The powder blue rounded v-neck, especially. Keep that size.
The pullover hoodie.
The Henley blouse-nice look-needs your heartbeat necklace. Or a longer thin chain.
The velvet bomber.
Nice dresses too!
I need to go check out that ruched dress in both options!
I wish I could see the ruched dress with tall boots!
I love your dressing room diaries:)
Love the plaid knit dress and all the cardigans. I tend to wear them more in the winter than an actual coat.
Cassie! None of the links work! So frustrating! HELP!!!!
Yes, I haven’t been able to link to the peacoat since the last time you posted. Not sure if it’s permanantly gone? Thank you!
I’m looking for the link to the pea coat too!
Random stupid question – how do you keep the necklines of your white tee shirts so white? With sunscreen, perspiration and whatnot, my Caslon and Old Navy tees start yellowing within a few months! I’d rather not use bleach; any helpful hints?
Hi Cassie! I agree with you that the Lush Crepe Dress is the greatest. I have it in two colors. In an earlier post, you said you would probably machine wash yours on the delicate cycle and hang it to dry. Have you done that and if so, did you have any shrinkage?
I washed it on delicate and hung it dry…and it’s perfect!!
I have a new saying at home when my family comments (in a good way) on new shoes, jeans, booties, etc…. “It’s from Hi Sugarplum!” It’s just fun to say! Thanks Cassie for all the suggestions!
Total cardigan junkie here! They look so much more polished than my Disney sweatjackets I used to live in lol.
Loving the burgundy cardi with the camo pants and the tweed dress the most!
Ummmm that should be plaid lol, reminds me of tweed!
i so look forward to your dressing room diaries. They are my favorite. 🙂 Could you do a dressing room diaries for J Crew/J Crew Factory or Banana Republic??
I’m so glad you like the posts, Allison! I almost-always include J.Crew and/or J.Crew Factory bc they are faves of mine, for sure!! This week was slim on retailers simply because of my recent travel. And I actually just checked-in on BR…didn’t see anything I loved just yet! xo
Cassie, I hope you kept that faux leather pink moto jacket as well as the black velvet bomber. They both look great on you! I have a question for you about your Mom that is not related to this post. I hope you don’t mind me asking it here. I was watching your Instagram stories this weekend that featured your Mom with you. Your Mom is beautiful and has a fantastic figure! She looks like she’s lost even more weight. I’m a 50 year old woman who is struggling to lose about 15-20 pounds that I gained due to some recent health issues. I’m unable to walk or exercise much at all, therefore I’m trying to diet in a healthy way. Could you please share how your Mom lost so much weight?
Thanks,
Stephanie
