Fall Transition | Peplum & Camo

Hello friends, and welcome back to a new week. I don’t know about you, but we spent the weekend glued to the news channels, desperately watching Irma’s path, and devastated by her wrath. We have family in Sarasota that stayed put, so we’re very anxious for them…as well as, all our friends in our beloved Anna Maria Island, Sanibel and Miami Beach.

It’s unfathomable that we’re watching this unfold just two weeks after Harvey, and on the anniversary of September 11. It feels strange to continue work as usual with all this going on, but if you’ve been impacted by these events, just know we’re praying for you, and anxious to continue helping however we can. I know the Red Cross is a great place to start, as they’ll likely be one of the first groups to respond.

This week is an all-new Five Ways Series, this one dedicated to the tricky transition to Fall. Plus, you get a double-whammy because I’m sharing a Now & Later with several of them, too! Starting today with the cutest little peplum tee and distressed jeans.

Peplum Tee (short-sleeve version) | Necklace (similar) | Distressed Jeans | Sandals | Leather Tote | Sunglasses | Earrings

Some of you might be in full-blown Fall weather already, but it trickles in slowly for Texas…we’re likely months away from boots and sweaters. But when the calendar reads ‘Fall,’ we want to dress Fall…so the first step is adding long sleeves, but still pairing them with sandals.

Peplum Tee (short-sleeve version) | Necklace (similar) | Sunglasses | Earrings | Watch | Bracelet | Lipstick in ‘Punch’

This tee is soft and lightweight, and comes in several fun solid colors and stripes. I’m long-torsoed and it hits me at the right spot (some peplum can look maternity if cut too short).

Fit Tip: It’s true to size, I’m wearing an XS.

These sandals were my go-tos all season…they go with virtually everything from shorts to nice dresses…and make even the most basic outfits more chic. I’ve had this Barrington tote for years (you know I’m a huge fan of the brand!), and it’s only getting better with age. It’s great for everyday, but also holds everything I need for a travel carry-on. (Use code SUGARPLUM10 for 10% off your total order!)

Fit Tip: I sized up half in the sandals to accommodate my high arch. Otherwise, they’re true to size.

So how about (hopefully) a month from now when we have true Fall temps? I’ll simply swap the sandals for booties, and add a light jacket. I’m a forever-fan of military jackets, and this camo version kicks that up a notch! I’ll pair it with solids and stripes, jeans and dresses, and the price point is such that you’re not making a huge investment in a trendier piece.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but would recommend sizing up if you’re in-between.

Sugarplum Style Tip: Nevermind the old adage that your shoes must match your bag…your outfit is actually more interesting if they don’t. And if you’re adding just one pair of booties to your wardrobe, you’ll get the most mileage out of taupe!

Are you seeing Fall temps where you are, or is it still basically Summer? I’m excited to share more transitional styles for everything from work to weekend, so stay tuned this week! See more Five Ways series here and tons of Fall Styles can be found here. Stay safe, lovebugs!

  1. I’m excited for this new fall series! Nice to know that you’re continuing your outfit features after Summer of Style.

I always love a camo top or a camo jacket. Great for fall, for sure!

Definitely seeing “classic” fall days in Michigan with cool nights and bright but cooler sunny days! I always struggle with dressing during these transition seasons. Thanks for the inspiration!

Love this look! Especially those boots! 😍 Here in Vancouver, Canada we are having weird, atypical weather for this time of year. It’s been crazy hot and muggy, and feels like mid summer. It’s still shorts and sundresses up in here!

I love both of these looks! I cannot wait for fall weather to finally stay. We have been having cooler temps in the midwest, but they are supposed to go back up this weekend. I am so ready to wear sweaters and booties all the time.

I love your blog, is amazing and the best thing – almost every day there is new post from you full of good humor and smile.
Weather is crazy right now in my town (Warsaw), one day is nice and sunny autumn and another one is awfull, wet and cold – so I cannot wear booties like yours and they’re wonderful.

Grrreat fall transition look! Still summer fresh, w/a hint of fall just around the corner. Luv that white top.
After viewing almost 400 photos of the hurricane Irma devastation, I started to cry. Americans pick themselves up and rebuild. But those tiny, oh so special Caribbean Islands=destroyed. No words to describe it. Let’s all keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi I love all if it! How sheer is the white top? Did you have to wear a tank or anything underneath?
