Happy Monday, friends, and welcome back to a new week! We’ve got a lot to celebrate around here…it’s Mr. SP’s birthday on Thursday, and Friday we head to Norman for Family Weekend! I’m so excited to see our son in his new environment and attend our first Sooner Game Day.
I’m trying to keep my expectations low when it comes to quality time with him while we’re there, knowing he still has a lot going on. Expectations seem to be what gets the best of me with him these days. Why can’t we just go back to the way it was?!
But let’s get to today’s post…one I think you’ll love! I’ve been sharing affordable finds from different retailers a lot more lately, and my Target Hauls have been the most popular. So today I’m bringing you more adorable, and affordable, finds from Target!
Sugarplum Sizing: I’m 5’4″, 120 pounds, and my standard size is XS/0 and a 26 jean.
SWEATERS //
I was instantly smitten with the colors of this short sleeve sweater, and liked it even more once I got it on. The material is super-soft and stretchy, and a great mid-weight. The neck is a touch higher than a traditional crewneck, but not quite a mock neck. The elbow sleeve is a flattering length, and it looks just as great with a skirt as it does jeans.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a XS

Lots of leopard finds, but surely you’re not surprised!? This sweater is the perfect weight for wearing alone or layering over a button down. I especially like leopard with chambray. The print is a great combo of cognac and black, on a light camel background.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a XS, but would prefer to size up one.

More leopard, but this one in a fun snow print of gray and ivory. It’s a little thicker, and super soft. I’d love it layered over chambray, too, or under a black blazer.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a Small.

You guessed it…more leopard! This one in a bold two-tone color combo with feminine bracelet sleeves. So chic with black trousers or pencil skirt, or with jeans and booties.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS

This one is for my poncho lovers!! Soft merino material in a great lightweight, I love the v-neck and perfect camel color. It even has arm openings! (I can’t do ponchos with no armholes…I feel like I have T-Rex arms!)Â It’s flowy and loose, and covers the bum, so perfect for leggings, too.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing Camel color and it comes in one size.

This fuzzy zippered jacket is about the softest thing I’ve ever felt! Wear it with jeans or throw it over your athleisure, you won’t want to take it off. This is a soft blush, but it comes in other colors, too.

BLOUSES //
I found a handful of darling tops that are great for the office or a night out…starting with this ruffled animal print blouse. The print is unexpected, and a fun combo of pink, cognac and black. Wear it with black jeans for a night out, or trousers and a blazer for work.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a XS
Ruffled Blouse | Black Jeans | Bracelet | Sunglasses | Hoop Earrings
I love the geometric print of this cap sleeve blouse! The print is a little masculine, but the combo of black, white and pink keeps it purely feminine. As do the shoulder buttons. It’s another great work to weekend piece.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a Small
Geometric Print Top | Black Jeans | Sunglasses | Bracelet | Hoop Earrings
We couldn’t veer from leopard for too long! I love the smaller scale and delicate print of this popover blouse, and the sweet bracelet sleeves. It has an elastic, banded hem, but you could easily tuck it in, too.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a Small

I love the zig zag pattern and delicate collar of this sleeveless top. Perfect for work and weekend, it pairs beautifully so many patters…including snakeskin and leopard! There’s also a button at the neck to create a keyhole opening, or wear it loose like this.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a Small

Let’s take a closer look at this bag!! Incredibly chic and well-made, for under $40!!
This leopard cami will be my go-to date night piece this season…love it alone, or paired under a blazer or Moto jacket. The straps are adjustable to get a custom fit, and the material is soft and drapey, without being sheer.

CASUAL TOPS //
It wouldn’t be Fall without some plaid, and this one is a fun black and white buffalo, in a silky-soft material that drapes. Wear it tucked, tied at the waist, or layered over a tank, it’s cute for jeans and booties.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a XS. The sleeves are a little longer than necessary, but I always roll mine anyway.

A closet can never have too many striped tees, and this long sleeve is silky-soft modal cotton. It’s stretchy with an easy fit, and comes in several color options.

And finally, I love the sporty look of this baseball style camo tee! It’s super soft cotton with a loose fit and long sleeves. The body is a touch cropped, but not so much you can’t do a little half-tuck.
Fit Tip: I sized up for a relaxed fit, I’m wearing a Medium

I don’t know how to word this but mean no hurt. Your son is an adult and getting on with life, as you would want him to. You need to adjust to the New Reality. I know it’s hard! I went through the same with mine. You can feel needy but don’t show it. He will eventually find a wife and she will be the most important women in his life. I’ve been there and had to adjust as my son moved through life. But, he will always come home, FaceTime when he needs you, and love you forever.
Thanks Joanna…that’s exactly what I’m working towards. But considering it’s only been a month, it’s going to take a little time. I had 18 years with him, that’s not something I can get over in 4 weeks. Also, he’s still only 18 and under our full financial support, so not exactly an adult yet! 😉
Super cute finds!
I want to share an idea that blessed us along with our daughters and son when they went away to college. All 4 of our children chose schools in far away states. One thing we began with the first and continued with them all was when we visited, usually a few times a year but always in October, we would host a pizza party for our son/daughters to invite their new friends to. That way we got to meet and hang out with everyone. It was always a huge success, college students love food and community and we loved meeting their new friends and seeing them in their new surroundings. Other visits during the year we might cook or go out depending on what was available where they were living and located. We also did this when they moved on to a new area with their careers.
I pray this might bless you all as it blessed us!
I love that idea!!! Thank you so much for sharing it! xo
I hope you have a wonderful family weekend, and you are smart to be thinking about your expectations. We went to one family weekend with each child. Our daughter was completely available. Our son had clubs, friend dinner (a GREAT thing that lasted all four years and is probably happening now in grad school so I won’t complain), rehearsals, etc., and we hardly saw him. Since that experience, we have always planned our visits when he has a concert and will also have some time to spend with us. Good luck, and have fun!!
Thanks so much, Kristin!!
Cute finds!!!!
LOVE all your fun finds at Target, and such great price points too!!! I can’t wait to order online for some new fresh fun fall looks. I just hope the weather cools down soon here in South Texas! (It was 96 yesterday) I would love to see a post on her favorite leggings to wear for the fall that work well with booties:
My son was a freshman last year at UW-Madison and we were so excited to go see him on Parents Weekend. As we headed out on our way Friday, our son let us know that he instead had set up a date with a girl for Friday night. We couldn’t believe it. We can laugh about it now. You are spot on when you said “expectations.” I would also add new priorities!
haha — I think that might happen since this week’s game is against a rival school where a lot of his friends attend! 😉
Cassie, love all your cute finds and I end up spending too much money!
My son went from the DFW metroplex (Coppell) to Alabama for college. It was great for him but hard for me. I made meals and froze them, then took them with me (in a cooler). I always made 2 pans of something yummy and invited his friends over for a home cooked meal on the Friday night. It was a great way to meet his friends, give them all a home cooked meal and watch him interact with new friends. Then they went on their way for the night….which is find with me after I had him/them for a few hours over dinner!
You will survive and he will THRIVE!
I love this idea!!! Did you stay in a suite-style hotel that allowed you the space to cook and host??
