Hi Sugarplum!

American Eagle Haul for Mom & Teens

September 6, 2019

Happy Friday, friends, and cheers to the weekend ahead!! We’re celebrating my grandfather’s 90th birthday, then it’s all hands on deck packing for next week’s big photoshoot of our latest Gibson x Hi Sugarplum Collection! I’m literally bursting with excitement to share this one with you…stay tuned for more details!

It’s been a family affair on the blog this week…first with saying goodbye to our son, and then our family’s annual trip to Anna Maria Island. And today, I’ve got Little Miss sharing some more teen styles. It’s crazy how many requests we’re getting for those, and I love that you find inspiration for the whole family here!

And so you know, I never post the kids to the blog or social media without their full consent! It’s always their choice, and not only do they pick out all their own styles, but I pay them, too!

I recently put a poll on my Instagram Story of retailers you’d like to see featured here, and was surprised by the huge number of American Eagle requests! So of course I immediately hopped over to see what the fuss was about, and quickly discovered that not only do they have tons of cute styles, but the prices are totally affordable.

American Eagle now offers a huge range of sizes that fits most every woman, from 00 to 24, in lengths from extra short to extra long! Little Miss is petite for her age, so she was ecstatic to discover she can now wear their teen-friendly styles! (Shopping in the girl’s department doesn’t go over well for 13-year olds!). Plus, denim is 25-50% off through the weekend, and save an additional up to $40 off with code NEWSTUFF!

We had so much fun shopping American Eagle, and are excited to share our top picks with you!

Women’s American Eagle Faves

We’ll start with denim…a specialty of American Eagle. I tried on no fewer than 10 styles, and narrowed it down to my top three! The first are these high-waisted jeggings in a dark wash. They are super stretchy and hug every curve, and although lightweight, they don’t feel thin. The high waist keeps everything tucked in, and there’s very little fading. And on sale 25% off!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing size 2-short. The cropped length is great for flats and sneakers, or tucking in boots.

High-Waisted Jegging in Dark Wash | White Tee

No question I had to try the Next Level denim…this particular pair has over 1300 perfect 5-star reviews!! And I have to agree! They’re a lighter wash with a bit of fading to give them that well-loved style. They fit similar to a jegging with a good bit of stretch, but are closer to a true denim in weight. The mid-rise sits comfortably just below the belly-button, and there’s no gap in the waistband! And under $30 thanks to 25% off!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 2 regular, but would prefer the short length.

Next Level Jegging in Medium wash | White Tee

For the final option, I chose something completely different…this season’s trendy cropped flare. These are high-waisted, and the straight leg has a little kick at the ankle. So cute with flats, sandals and sneakers! They feel like a true denim, with heavy dose of stretch. There’s minimal fading, and other than the exposed hem, no distressing. Yep, 25% off!

Fit Tip: I sized up to a 4 for a more relaxed fit through the leg.

High-Waisted Crop Flare | White Tee

Now let’s talk about this tee I’m wearing in virtually every pic! I’m obsessed! It’s a classic v-neck fit, but the cotton blend is silky soft and drapes without hugging. And it’s only $10 today!!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS

White Tee (more colors here)

Okay, now that we have our jeans and tee, let’s talk more Fall basics…starting with this cardigan. It’s cozy soft and plush, with a slightly oversized fit. It’s long enough to pair with leggings or jeggings, too! I love this oatmeal shade, so cute with cognac knee boots this Fall!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS

Cardigan | White Tee | High-Waisted Jegging | Cognac Bootie

Same cardigan in a fun shade of olive.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS

Cardigan | White Tee | Next Level Jegging | Sneakers

And how could I not share the striped version?! It’s a little more oversized…I’ve got the wrists cuffed.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but size down if you prefer it less relaxed.

Striped Cardigan | White Tee | High-Waisted Jegging | Boots

Legging season will be here soon, and so the hunt for tunic-style tops is on! How fun is this pink and tan leopard? A cozy oversized sweatshirt material, with a side slit and long length for covering the bum. And on sale!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, so size down if you want it closer to a true sweatshirt fit.

Leopard Sweatshirt Tunic | High-Waisted Jegging | Boots

I’m a sucker for color-blocked…throw in plush material and a hoodie and you’re mine! I love the shades of blue and relaxed fit of this pullover hoodie.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, runs big.

Colorblock Hoodie Sweatshirt | Next Level Jegging | Sneakers

AE offers a big selection of graphic and band tees, too. This Rolling Stones is so classic in a super-soft cotton, with a little cuffed sleeve and well-loved feel. It’d be cute layered under jackets and blazers, too.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS

Rolling Stones Tee | Next Level Jegging | Sneakers

We can’t talk Fall basics without including a utility jacket! I love the camo print of this one, plus it’s a sturdy cotton with drawstring waist.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, it runs big.

Camo Utility Jacket | Next Level Jegging | White Tee | Boots

And finally, let’s talk shoes! I found several fun styles I loved…starting with these classic chelsea-style booties. They’re the perfect shade of cognac for pairing with black or brown, and a comfy block heel. The price point is great for the quality, too.

Fit Tip: They run big, size down 1/2

Cognac Chelsea Boots

These Gola sneakers are vintage, yet modern in a classic low-profile style. I love the throwback style (they’ve been around since 1905!), and go-with-everything colors. They’re quality leather with suede accents, and on a rare sale!

Fit Tip: True to size, but not for people who require a lot of arch support.

Gola Sneakers

I’ve been a Tretorn fan since grade school…my first pair was white canvas with a green swoop! Now they come in a range of colors, even rainbow! They have an extra-cushy insole and add a little height with the taller outsole.

Fit Tip: They run big, I size down half.

Rainbow Sneakers

Teen Girl American Eagle Faves

Little Miss tried on no fewer than 20 styles and sizes, and was ecstatic to find American Eagle’s jeggings actually fit her! Now she can wear teen-worthy (but still mom-appropriate) styles just like her friends! (AE offers sizes 00-24, and a range of lengths!) Even most tops start at size XXS! And all the moms of pre-teen and teenage girls said, ‘Amen!!’

These are her top picks…all stamped with teen approval! Starting with this stretchy ribbed top, she loves it with jeans and skirts. And apparently when it comes to jeans these days, the higher the better!

Knit Tee | Highest Waist Jegging | Slides

These distressed jeans are more of a weekend style, but I like that they keep her mostly covered. The ribbed top has a flattering square neck, but totally bra-friendly.

Square Neck Ribbed Top | Super High-Waisted Distressed Jegging | Slides

Another ribbed babydoll top, this one with a sweet floral pattern, and paired with black skinny jeans. She’s even on the Tretorn train and loves these comfy sneakers.

Floral Ribbed Top | High-Waisted Black Jegging | Sneakers

We both love this cotton skirt with corduroy texture, and perfect Fall colors. So cute with tights and boots when the weather cools. And thanks to the elastic waist on the back, it’s a comfy fit.

Waffle Knit Top | Floral Skirt | Slides

Hello leopard!! Adorable teddy bear jacket in the softest plush material, and darling leopard print. Wear it with jeans or skirts!

Leopard Jacket | Waffle Knit Top | High-Waisted Black Jegging | Sneakers

And finally, she’s game-day ready to support Big Brother’s school in her new Oklahoma hoodie!! Made of the best quality cotton, this thick sweatshirt is so soft and comfy.

Oklahoma Hoodie | Waffle Knit Top | Super High-Waisted Distressed Jegging | Sneakers

All so cute, right?! She’s beyond thrilled to be able to shop styles more in line with her age now, and stocked up for school this Fall. And I’m excited to have a new denim and cozy basics resource! So tell me, did you find a new fave from this post? What are your tried-and-true American Eagle essentials? Thanks to y’all, I’ve got a new retailer in my regular rotation!

And don’t forget, denim is all 25% off this weekend, and code NEWSTUFF saves you up to $40 on top of that! Plus free shipping on orders over $50! Happy weekend, lovebugs!

Little Miss looks so cute! Thanks for sharing her outfits on your blog too. My daughter is the same age and she finally found some jeans that fit her too! She found some at Aeropostale (size 000) and Pac Sun (22 waist). She was so excited, since we have been on the search for a long time. It is nice see American Eagle has options too, because I would shop there as well.

XXS is also great for pre-teen sized 30+ year olds, lol! I’m so happy they offer these sizes. I do wish they had more of them in store!

yes, I noticed many of the smaller sizes were online only…I prefer shopping online, so I’m okay with it! Hopefully my post was helpful in seeing them!

Good timing, I have a 11 year old daughter who is little shorter than little Miss and around same in weight. We are struggling to find girls clothes/jeans for her. I think my daughter will love the ripped jeans too. Thanks for your post!

We love AE (I have teens). Much better quality clothing than Forever 21 etc. their return policy is incredible (no time limit) AND they give a ten percent military discount on top of any current discounts. You can also recycle jeans here and get $10 off (I believe). I love that factor!!!!

I loved American Eagle growing up and now they have more “adult” things too! I need to buy that cardigan with the buttons you had on. Adorable! Their jeans have always been my go-to!

Hi, I must say you both looks adorable ladies ☺️
I bought a lot of clothes in AE, but they closed their stores in Europe a few years ago and that it’s just sad…

I love this! I wore AE jeans as a teenager and then “rediscovered” them a year after having my 3rd baby. Guess what – they are even better now! I do prefer shopping online though; I feel too old when I go into their stores, haha! Your daughter looks adorable in all her finds!

My daughter is 13 and I would like to share the posts featuring your daughter with her to jump start our shopping, however I won’t as long as you list height and weight. I totally understand the practicality of the fit tips, but have to warn you that this is a slippery slope with teen girls and I urge you to reconsider listing this details.

Thanks for your feedback, Elizabeth. My intent was to be helpful in determining size, based on her size…just like I do my own. But I can see your point and will happily remove that from the post.

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to hear reader feedback. The pressure on our girls is outrageous and the effects can be catastrophic. Thank you for making the change.

A hundred percent on board with American Eagle clothes. It’s been my go to for jeans since I discovered the place in my early teens (I am now 32). Most of my jeans are from there as they’ve always fit me perfectly with all my varying sizes over the years. I’m 5’3 and have short legs so I love how they have the option for short (and I assume tall girls have choices too). I also find them to be the best quality and they are awesome when it comes to curvy figures (so, not only short but also “blessed” (cough) with a large bum and thick thighs and their jeans have complimented my figure, every single time). And the teen looks are great (I love the little confirmation that your kids are willing participants that choose their styles and get paid for their contribution). So glad you shared the love for AE (hands down my favourite denim store).
