Darling Summer Basics (aka My Target Haul!)

Y’all have made one thing very clear in the last couple of months….you really like the affordable style posts!! Everything from JCPenney to J.Crew Factory, and Walmart to Old Navy…most of us can’t get enough of the fabulous finds for less.

One retailer in particular has been requested over and over, so today I’m here to deliver! Yes ma’am, we’re talking Target today!

Honestly, I often steer clear of Target, but only because it gets me into trouble every.single.time. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve managed to spend under $100. It’s almost impossible!! Surely I’m not the only one?!

To be safe, I stuck with mostly online for this scouting session. Their website pics don’t do most pieces any justice, so much of my order came as a pleasant surprise, and is a good mix of Summer basics and stand-out pieces.

I live in sundresses in Summer (it was 85-degrees here yesterday…that’s pretty much Summer!), so they’re always the first thing I look for. This striped tiered dress is surprisingly substantial, made of a thick, chambray-style fabric, but still soft with good movement. The straps criss-cross in the back with adjustable buttons for length.

The sandals are flip-flop style, but look like leather with a soft, padded footbed.

Fit Tip: Dress is true to size, I’m in an XS. Sandals come in whole sizes only, so go up if you’re half.

I was instantly smitten with this pattern, and had a hard time choosing between the top or one of the skirts! It’s a thick cotton-linen feel, with flutter sleeves and buttons up the back. Tuck it into skirts for a dressed-up style, too!

Fit Tip: I’m in an XS

Ruffled Leaf Print Top | Bangles | Ring | Jeans | Sunglasses

Good tees are hard to find…but Target got it right with this one! Soft, mid-weight cotton with just enough stretch, and a front pocket. It’s the perfect blend of fitted and relaxed.

The shorts are a longer inseam than my usual, and I’m totally digging it!! They’re just so comfortable, plus slimming through the thighs.

Fit Tip: Both are true to size, I’m wearing XS tee and size 2 shorts.

Essential Pocket Tee | Bermuda Cut-Off Shorts | Bangles | Sunglasses

Okay, I love short overalls on other people, but have never been on-board with them for myself! That doesn’t mean I can’t find and totally appreciate a really great pair…and these are darling! They are perfectly slouchy with minimal distressing and a great light wash. If short overalls are your jam, you’ll live in these!

Fit Tip: I sized up to a small for a relaxed fit

Essential Pocket Tee | Denim Short-Alls | Bangles | Sunglasses

This jumpsuit may not look like much, but I promise you’ll never want to take it off!! It’s a thick cotton knit with a drawstring elastic waist, and cropped wide leg pants. Think of your favorite sweatshirt…now imagine it in a jumpsuit. It’s cute with a jean jacket, but let’s be honest, it just became my new around-the-house loungewear!

Fit Tip: True to size, I’m in an XS

Knit Jumpsuit | Flip Flop SandalsEarrings | Bangles | Sunglasses

I may be hot-natured, but I never leave the house without a light jacket or sweater…even in Summer. This long cardigan is lightweight, without being sheer, and super soft cotton.

Fit Tip: It’s true to size, I’m in an XS

Knit Jumpsuit | Striped Long Cardigan | Earrings | Bangles | Sunglasses

Another great basic tee, this one a v-neck in a fun camo pattern. It’s soft and a great mid-weight.

Fit Tip: I sized up to a small.

Camo V-Neck Tee | Ring | Earrings | Bangles | Sunglasses

I loved the simple pattern of this top, and am always a sucker for blue and white. It’s a lightweight, drapey material with a square neck and flutter sleeves. It’s hip length, so perfect for tucking or a little half-tuck.

Fit Tip: It’s true to size, I’m wearing XS

Flutter Sleeve Top | High-Rise Jean Shorts | Ring | Earrings | Bangles | Sunglasses

This combo was one of my favorite finds, especially the skirt! It’s a deep navy blue with a gorgeous print of shades of blue, and fully-lined. It’s a pull-on style with elastic waist, and beautiful pleats.

I paired it with a cotton eyelet top with a slight racerback neckline. It’s fully-lined on the front, but open eyelet on the back (still bra-friendly).

Fit Tip: Both are true to size, I’m wearing XS.

Eyelet Top | Pleated Midi Skirt | Nude Heeled Sandals | Ring | Earrings | Bangles | Sunglasses

Another fun t-shirt option, this one with a cute stripe, ringer neck, and cuffed sleeve. It’s super soft and thick cotton, and while it’s not exactly cropped, it’s only about hip-length.

Fit Tip: I sized up two, to a medium, for more length and a relaxed fit.

Striped Tee | Jean Shorts | Ring | Earrings | Bangles | Sunglasses

Every closet needs a good white shirt, and this one is perfect for warmer weather. A drapey, soft cotton, it falls easily away from the body, with feminine gathers on the shoulder.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but would prefer the more relaxed fit of a small.

Hat | Button Shirt | High-Rise Jean Shorts | Ring | Earrings | Bangles | Sunglasses

While Walmart seemed to be the Summer bag jackpot (see my finds here), I didn’t find a lot at Target. This striped backpack was my favorite…made of a thick, Mexican blanket-type material, it has adjustable straps, and a flap pocket. It’s sturdy and so well-made, and a great size for every day.

Woven Backpack

What Target lacked in beach totes, they more than make up in swimsuits! But I focused on the higher-end styles, and these two were my faves. First up a ruffle trim one piece, with just a touch of ruching on the sides. It’s a sturdy lycra material with full coverage bottoms and good support in the cups. Plus, the color is stunning!

Fit Tip: I always size up one in swimwear, this is a small.

Ruffled One Piece Swimsuit

A similar style, but in a two-piece. The top has a cute ruffle trim and criss-cross back (which also allows for a custom fit and more support!). The bottoms are a bit of a hipster fit, with slight ruching on the sides and full coverage across the bum.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small in both pieces.

Ruffled Swim Top | Ruched Swim Bottoms

Most of this I found online, but did make the mistake of hitting up my local store, too. But instead of walking out with more fashion finds, I brought home a pair of these chairs and this fun otomi planter for our backyard. And maybe this basket.

It really is the danger zone for me!! Is it for you, too? So what do you think of this Target Haul…yay or nay for more posts like these? Which retailer would you like to see next?

Thanks for linking to the Target website. The nearest Targets to our small rural KS town are 60 miles away. We often shop there when we visit my son and his family who live near Minneapolis, MN, but that is not more than 4 times per year! Love Target but my shopping there is mostly online unless we have other business in the larger cities in the region. The grocery section at larger Target are also wonderful.

I’m all for affordable fashion. In fact, we were at Walmart last night to try and find some muscle shirts for the mister for our up coming trip to Cuba (leaving Friday, yeh!) and we found a ton of those and I even stumbled upon a dress of the George brand that I just knew would fit me perfectly by just looking at it and it totally did! And it was on sale for 14$ One more dress in my collection!

Hi Natalie! I think it would definitely work for the first half! But the top might be a bit tight if you’ve grown much in the chest area! Sizing up would work!!

Cassie, I love your Target haul! In fact, I love all your hauls! Just the other day I wore an outfit that I put together, all from your recommendations! I had on one of your skirts from (I believe) your first hisugarplum collection, a Walmart T-shirt you turned me on to (love, now own 5), and TB Miller sandals that you finally “ talked” me in to buying (and have probably become the least expensive thing I own because of cost per wear!)!!! I hit all the price points! So thank you for mixing things up and giving us ALL the options. I’m in my mid-50s and you have helped me tremendously with looking stylish as I age. I’ve learned so much from you!! 💗💗

Love this try on session. I found several things I wanted and some I will order. Always love your sizing detail and complete reviews about items. A bit bummed the eyelet shirt is not lined in the back. You always do an awesome job with your choices. And of course, you look so cute in everything and have such a great sense of styling. Thanks for all your hard work on our behalf.

I love your Target try-on session! I’m in the FL Keys, so it is a great help to me since I live 118 miles or 3 hours from the closest store. 🙁 It’s nice to see the fit and hear your fabric and fit descriptions. Thank you! It’ll probably save me $100 and a 3 hour tour!

Our family kindly refers to Target as “The Hundred Dollar Store”. Like you, we never get out of there for less than a hundred and most times that only consists of two or three bags. I often find Target clothing a hit or miss. Sometimes I love everything and other times, I don’t like anything. I particularly loved when they used to carry Liberty of London, Lilly Pulitzer and Hunter merchandise. Just bought the camo tee. Thanks for keeping us fashion forward.
