The Friday Five

I’m not going to lie, this week kicked my bootie a bit. Between the fourth quarter crunch at work, and Mr. Sugarplum working late nights (and obsessed with playoff baseball #gogiants!), I’m feeling stretched a little thin. It wasn’t my best mom-week, that’s for sure. But everyone ate three meals a day, had clean clothes, and completed homework, so I wasn’t a complete bust. So hooray for Friday, which means I have the whole weekend to recharge and spend time with them! Let’s perk things up with my random Friday Five.

1) I posted this outfit on InstaGram last weekend, and the jacket caused a bit of a stir and excitement. Normally I’d wait for the next installment of Sugarplum Style, but I thought I’d better share now in case it sells out.

Jacket // Hoodie (similar) // Distressed Jeans // Booties (similar) // Bag (similar)

The adorable jacket is a combination of preppy cable-knit sleeves, with an outdoorsy buffalo plaid body. I think it’s pure perfection with jeans, or dressed up with a black skirt, or over a dress. I layered a hoodie under it in the picture above for a more sporty look. The jacket is fully lined, and runs true to size. I’m wearing an XS which felt a tad tight through the upper arms when I first put it on, but the knit stretched fairly quickly. I think if I went up a size it would look too bulky. If you want a more neutral color, check out this one and this one.

And a note about the striped top…it’s a great staple for layering, but if you plan to wear it with leggings, order up a few sizes so it’s long enough to cover your lady-bits. If wearing it alone, you’ll probably want to layer a tank under it due to the sheerness. #mytwocents #coveryourbits

2) Stefanie of Brooklyn Limestone is the undisputed Queen of Halloween, and I look forward to seeing her creations every year. This time, she decorated her stunning Brooklyn home with the Ghostbuster theme! How much fun to be her neighbor!! I hope she stocks up on candy, because she’s sure to have throngs of trick-or-treaters! You have to go see all the details, and while you’re there, check out her crazy-clever Hidden Jewelry Organizer.

3) Chelsea at Two Twenty One had a darling baby boy, and hosted a Preggo Mom series during her maternity leave. She somehow talked a whole slew of bloggers in to sharing pictures and stories about their pregnancies. I can’t believe I let this one out of the lockbox. I mean, bless my poor shirt…it’s working overtime, and still not getting it done! Go congratulate Chelsea on her sweet baby!

Babygirl was born the day after this picture was taken!

4) Y’all were so sweet about our Date Night Style post this week, and I showed all your comments to Mr. SP…mostly in hopes that he’d keep doing them with me! #ulteriormotive He’s pretty particular about his clothes, but I’ve slowly been able to inject what I like in to his wardrobe. He prefers jeans most of the time, so I like to find fun ways to dress them up, while still being comfortable. Several people have asked me about outfits for family pictures…I think both of these would be great looks for your guy.

Hi Sugarplum | Mens Fashion

5) I love the striped jacket, but Mr. SP would give me the ole raised eyebrow if I brought it home for him. He prefers jackets like this one, and paired with a bright shirt, it presents a sportier feel. As long as he’s wearing a good-fitting pair of jeans, I’m happy with whatever!

Hi Sugarplum | Mens Fashion

What style do you prefer for your man? Does he live in jeans, too? I’ve got a Science Fair project and painting trim planned…what’s on your agenda? Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

Hello, my friends…and welcome, sweet Friday! Some weeks I consider changing this feature to The Friday Fifteen because there always seems to be so many little nuggets I want to pass on! But alas, ain’t nobody got patience time for 15 of the random thoughts in my head, so we’ll stick with the top five.

1) It’s been over a year since I created our Gift Wrap Station, and I still get quite a few emails about it. Most people are confused about which components are needed, and I always reply with a bunch of links, which is likely even more confusing. Well, now they’ve gone and simplified it for us! This link shows you all the components you’ll need, plus I added this shallow basket for more storage…and my finish is this one. I love this system more than chocolate dipped cones…so if you’ve been considering it, now is the time because it’s the annual 30% Off  Sale!

2) Are you sick of Winter and your Winter coat yet? I’m sure not…coats and scarves are my favorite part of this season. My coat is getting a little ragged around the edges, so I’ve been scoping out this Coat Sale. You may be over them now, but next year you’d sure be glad you picked up a cute new one for up to 50% off.

3) Showing just how random my thoughts are, I’m going straight from coats to sandals. But these Maya Studded Rubber Sandals have me so intrigued! My friend, Chassity, turned me on to them, and she’s one of the most stylish people I know. I’d wear rubber flip-flops every day if I could, but many outfits call for something with a little more ‘oomph.’ These are like the best of both worlds…comfy rubber + cute oomph…and for only $28!

Hi Sugarplum | Summer Sanda;

4) My adorable friend, Michelle of Ten June, put together a fun Blogger Panel, and asked us, ‘What’s Hot in Interior Design for 2014′? Of course I’m no designer, so I just made up a bunch of stuff that sounded good to me. The other girls, however, had some really great insight, so definitely go check it out. And while you’re there, you’ll want to read about Michelle’s latest shocker!

5) You guys were so sweet in indulging supporting me on my emotional post the other day. It felt so good to be honest with how I’m feeling this week, instead of glossing over it with a regular project post. It’s really hard to expose yourself to people on the internet, so I appreciate when others reveal their true self, too. My friend Freckles Chick spoke some truths about finding your mojo again after having a baby, and I loved it.

I was particularly drawn to her statement, ‘I want to show her that
it’s OK to want to wear pretty things so long as we understand that
they’re only accessories to our kind hearts & sharp minds.’

You know I’ve got no shame for staying in pajamas…in fact, I’ll have mine back on as soon as 5 o’clock rolls around. Happy weekend, lovebugs!

Pssst…don’t forget to enter for a free Honeywell Voice-Activated Wifi Thermostat!

The Friday Five

I think it’s safe to say that warm temperatures are here to stay! This is my very favorite time of year in Texas, while it’s warm enough to enjoy the perpetual sunshine, but not so hot that you seek shelter in the air-conditioning. The impending Summer season is a big influence for today’s Friday Five.

1) My girl, Chassity, declares the Sam Edelman Gigi as the perfect sandal. I’ve seen them on countless celebrities, and I’ve heard they are super comfortable and hold up well season after season, so I’d have to agree. I’m cuckoo for the Zebra & Gold combination.

But Target just released a Sam & Libby version that looks reeeeeallly similar. They are only $25, so for the same price as one pair of Sam Edelman’s, I could get two pairs of these. Hmmmmm. They’re only available online, so I haven’t tried them on. Have you seen them in person?

2) How gorgeous is this banquette? Well done, World Market!

3) I mentioned getting a Clarisonic Mia for Mother’s Day, and loved hearing how passionate so many of you are about yours! I’ve only been using it for a week, but I’m already totally obsessed hooked. I did a lot of research and shopped around before pulling the trigger, and am really happy with this one on Amazon for under $100.

4) I’m super excited to be participating in Pottery Barn’s latest Mystery Box Challenge! It’s a “friendly competition” (please, they have no idea how competitive I am!) between five bloggers to create a ‘Summer Sips Cocktail Party’. I posted this image on InstaGram (@cassiesugarplum) this week to announce it, and I think some people thought I was going on a Pottery Barn shopping spree!

The challenge is each of the five bloggers received the same mystery shipment, and Pottery Barn’s Facebook fans will vote on who creates the best set-up with those items. We were also gifted with $50 for supplies. I’m so excited I can hardly wait tear open these boxes…the whole thing goes live next month, so I’ll be sure to keep you in the loop. I’m not too proud to beg for your votes!

5) I’m thrilled to welcome Design Your Dwelling as Hi Sugarplum’s newest sponsor! Beth creates custom mood boards for any room in your house, each including furniture, color scheme, lighting, flooring, window treatments and accessories. Along with the Design Board, you’ll receive a full shopping list and instructions for any DIY projects. That’s serious bang for your buck! She also offers ‘Quick Fixes’ for your design questions and dilemmas for only $25.

Thanks to sponsors like Beth for providing us with some project funding! The DIYs would be pretty sparse around here without it. Happy weekend, lovebugs!
