Pull the Rug Out

Yes, I know the Living Room To-Do list isn’t complete. And yes, I know I swore I wouldn’t begin any new projects until the 87 I’ve started are complete. But oh well, I’m flighty. So today I want to talk about my Dining Room. Even with no real plan, I continue to randomly acquire things for it. Some you’ve seen, like the tufted chairs. Others, like new drapery fabric, a light fixture and wall decor, you haven’t seen. And I fear all these impulse buys are going to end up a hot mess unless I get some direction. And quickly!

Here’s how my Dining Room looks today (minus the wintery branches).

Moving the jute rug in was an improvement, but it just added to the collection of brown. So, when the awesome people at Rugs USA contacted me about reviewing one of their rugs (as in, one they wanted to give me, not the two I’ve already bought and reviewed on my own!), I jumped at the chance. The Homespun Chevron caught my eye, and it was confirmed when I saw it in Amanda’s Living Room. She has great taste, so I knew if she loved it, then it was a good choice.

I emailed her to see if she was happy with it (she is!), and an email conversation followed that I’m imagining drove Amanda to the brink of insanity. Next thing I know, she’s taken all the information I’d been rambling on about, and turned them into gorgeous design boards! I’m in love with all of them, so once again, my indecisiveness is crippling me. Cue you guys…the clever readers!

The things of which I am certain are the pale pink wall color (please, Mr. Sugarplum?!), orb chandelier (sitting in a box in my guest room), ikat fabric for drapes (found for a steal at Hancocks last year), gold lamps with black shades, tufted chairs and wall decor. I think. Things always could change. Where I need you is helping me to choose the rug! I decided on the geometric chevron pattern because I think it’s a nice juxtaposition to the large floral rug in the adjacent Living Room. And these rooms could use a dose of modern contemporary.

First choice is the Homespun Chevron in Navy. I don’t need the blues to match, but they should be almost identical, or two completely different shades. Hard to tell from the website’s image.

Cassie NO RED -Navy

Or the same rug in Light Blue. Which is definitely not the exact same blue as the drapery fabric, but might be too matchy-matchy with the Living Room sofa.

Cassie NO RED-Light Blue

I’ve been pining over Pink and Red lately, so I’m even considering this Satara Chevron Daredevil.

Cassie 5

Without knowing the exact shade, it might not be a safe bet. So to satisfy my pink & red craving, we considered painting one of the pieces of furniture red. Here are the two blue rugs with red accent pieces:

Cassie NavyRed
Cassie BlueRed

You’d think shopping with someone else’s money would be easy, but I am locked up! You guys have proven to be very talented with your opinions…so which is it? Navy, light blue or the red chevron rug?

And with or without a red accent?

Thanks to Amanda Carol Interiors for creating these beautiful boards for me! If you’ve got a million ideas swimming in your head, this is the girl to help corral them into a beautiful room. Or if you have no idea where to start, Amanda will create the space intended just for you (without breaking the bank in the process!). This girl is talented, I mean, look at her office (on Apartment Therapy, no less)!

Open the floodgates of opinions…I can’t wait to see what you think!

  3. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Ok, I think the navy because I'm having some serious love for navy and pink together. Those design boards are goooooorgeous! I'm dying to see this come together!

Lose the red. Pink should be the pop in this room without having to compete with the red.

I still want that painting. 😉

  20. So Amanda recently designed a couple rooms for me and I used the "light blue" chevron rug in my guest room. It is definitely more or a light teal than a light blue. I LOVE the rug though. My vote is definitely for the navy for the dining room!!!! Isn't Amanda just the BEST?!?!?!

  21. Definitely the navy rug and I'm going to say no to the red- love the first board as it is.

  25. Oh wow! I love those design boards. Amanda is just brilliant!! All of them look so beautiful, so you really can't go wrong. I'm leaning toward the first two though. I will say I did buy the chevron rug from Rugs USA and it is not a light blue as shown in the pictures on their site. However, I knew this was the case from the reviews and actually I wanted a darker blue, so I was happy with it (if you want to see a picture of my rug to get an idea of the color, you can see it in the post link below). I am loving the homespun chevron though…eek better than mine! At first when I saw Amanda's post on her rug, I thought we had the same one, but the homespun isn't as busy since the zig zags are wider, which I think I like better.

  30. I think the navy rug is the best choice. The red rug is awesome but is more limiting and since you are indecisive and like to change things up frequently I think the red rug would make that harder. I am on the fence with the red accent. But that is what is nice about the navy – it will look great with our without the accent. One thing is for sure – the rug is awesome!

btw – I love your humor – it makes your blog so much fun to read.

  33. I love the light blue with the red accents. I too have to have a small amount of reds and oranges for pop in my home. The navy is pretty too but more of a statement. You definitely need the red.

The Navy rug!!! The pattern stands out more — the light blue one seems to look too neutral, and this rug is already going to underneath a lot of furniture (table, chairs) as is – I think it would sort of "get lost" in the room. And I personally don't care for the red rug – it looks too orangy red in the pic here and clashes with the pink and your painting in the mood boards… which seem like cooler toned pinks? And I agree with another commenter – pops of a rich red would be great – but maybe not on furniture. Hello flowers, napkins, placemats, runners, etc.!

  41. Well now I want to buy that rug for my dining room. Love it. The red is my least favorite. My first instinct is to go with the navy but I do quite like the light blue. I honestly think you can't go wrong with either color. Oh and if you get your husband to agree to pink walls let me know how you accomplished that feat. Still praying I might have a girl one day so I can have an excuse for a pink room!

I am not about the red accent on any option. I prefer the light blue so it does coordinate with the sofa in the living room, and isn't too matchy matchy with the curtains in the dining room. It will provide continuity without being boring, and since the dining room looks a bit dark in the photos, the light blue won't enhance that. Love the chevron, LOVE the ikat fabric for the curtains, and REALLY LOVE the pale pink walls!!

That orb chandie has been stalking me in my dreams for months. Gah! I so wish I had waited for those WM tufted chairs b/f we got our current ones a couple yrs ago. That tufting is delish. I'd rent out my womb for that tufting. Thx for the idea.
