One Outfit | Three Ways

Happy Friday!! I hope you’ve had a great week! Ours was the usual…work, school, laundry, talent show practice, running late for most everything, crap-whats-for-dinner…you know the drill! Mr. SP and I are taking a little break from the routine, and sneaking away early tomorrow for the long weekend. It’s been in the 70s here all week, and the forecast where we’re going is single digits!!! Looks like I won’t be packing light! Can you guess where? I’m sure I’ll post some snaps on Instagram, so follow me there if you want.

For today’s dose of Friday Fashion, I’m sharing another basic outfit styled three ways. This time of year, it’s hard to deny the ease of a sweater and jeans, and many times, I’m reaching for the same exact sweater and jeans! But with a few layer and accessory swaps, no one is the wiser!

This post could also fall under the Rule of Three, since in each outfit, I’ve layered on two, three, and even four items, not only to make it more stylish, but to create different looks. Let’s start with the base outfit…jeans and a sweater. Totally cute on it’s own, but we don’t leave things alone around here!

The first look is straight from my ‘Transition to Fall’ formula…add a scarf and boots, with a shot of fun jewelry.

I accidentally left this bag at the park, and when I came back it was gone! #sob #myownfault Since I carry it constantly, I reluctantly went online to order another. The bad news is it’s sold out. The good news is there’s a new, slightly smaller size, and I love it even more! #silverlining It’s still big enough for a wallet, phone, lipstick and sunglasses…basically the perfect cross body size!

Fit Tip: This is a lovely sweater, with just enough cashmere to make it feel luxury, but not so much that it’s pricey. In fact, it’s on sale for under $50, and available in tons of colors! I love the v-neck version, too. I sized up for a more relaxed fit and room to layer, but my usual size fit perfectly, as well.

For a second look, I double-layered with a gingham shirt and quilted vest. Just imagine the possibilities with a solid sweater like this…chambray shirt and plaid vest, white shirt and utility vest, and if you’re daring, try a plaid shirt and striped vest! (The idea of that one just gave me a giddy shiver!)

Pairing similar hues really allows the striped bag to shine, and of course a little leopard…because I think every outfit is cuter with a shot of leopard.

Fit Tip: These jeans are so soft and comfy, they feel almost like leggings…except you don’t have to cover your lady bits. The higher waist means no accidental crack-shots either! #grownuppants

Style Tip: My bag is the Savannah Tote, and it’s chock-full of pockets with a zipper close. You can customize your pattern, color and monogram style…and they have the cutest Spring collection of new patterns to choose from!

The final look has similar layers with a plaid shirt and blazer, but dressed up for work or date night with heels and pearls.

Style Tip: When layering, make sure each piece is peeking out somewhere. Except if one of your layers is thermal underwear…we don’t need to see that. Well, unless it’s cute thermals!

One Outfit | Three Ways

If you saw Friday’s Sugarplum Style post, then you know leggings have played a huge part of my life wardrobe lately. I think it’s the combination of cold days, and the desire to be extremely comfortable, that keeps me reaching for them several times a week. Not to mention, the forgiving waistband. We won’t speak of my holiday-induced need for elastic.

Since one outfit in particular…this turtleneck tunic and these favorite leggings…have been on repeat, I thought I’d share the different ways I’ve worn the combination in the past week. With just a few accessory swaps, I’ve managed to stay in the same basic uniform, and no one is the wiser. To my face, anyway.

This post could also fall under the Rule of Three, since in each outfit, I’ve layered on two to three items, not only to make it more stylish, but to create different looks. This first one includes my go-to Fall/Winter accessory…a scarf. Then I threw in a second pattern with a leopard cuff.

These warm neutrals of black, camel and cognac are my favorite color palette right now…maybe it has to do with the cold, gray days.

Fit Tip: These leggings are super opaque, so no skin, lumps, or bumps are showing through. They fit true-to-size, and I’ve washed and dried them several times with no problems. My mom is equally smitten with them, as well.

Fit Tip: When it comes to leggings, I’m in the ‘Cover All Your Lady Bits’ Camp…both in the front and back! So I always pair them with a longer top or tunic, or layer a long tank underneath. #aintnobodywantstoseeyoladybits

Speaking of, here’s a cheesy joke for you…What do you call a camel with three humps? Pregnant! #seewhatIdidthere #asyouwere

For a second look, I dressed the outfit up with a black moto jacket and wedge boots, and took my leggings on the town. These black boots (on sale!) would be cute with it, too.

I kept the jewelry classic, with a little bling, for Date Night. I gifted myself these studs for an early Valentine gift…I thought I was worth the $4 splurge! Here’s a similar pair for $12.

The final look is similar to the first, but I swapped the scarf for jewels, and kept the bottom-half streamlined with black boots.

Fit Tip: It’s not necessary for your coat or jacket to be longer than your top…but I’d keep it within 4-to-6-inches of each other.

I love that you can wear this coat with collar up or down to create a different look. I’m so obsessed, I’ve already ordered it in black, and I’m exercising major restraint to not order a third. But really, $28???

Fit Tip: The coat runs small, so size up one or two.

Until I can comfortably return to jeans (and probably long after), I’ll continue styling my favorite leggings with tunics (just found this cute one!) and a revolving door of accessories. Which was your favorite look? Where do you stand when it comes to leggings and lady bits?
