Dressing Room Diaries

Happy Friday, friends, and cheers to the weekend! Do you have any fun plans? We’re hoping for lots of sunshine and time in the backyard. I ordered several things from my Backyard Staycation post (find that HERE), so we’re excited to get out and play.

Today I’ve got a new Dressing Room Diaries, full of fun new arrivals for summer… and lucky for us, most everything is on sale!

You know the drill with Dressing Room Diaries… the shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, and I’m in desperate need of a hairbrush. But it’s real life, real girl, real clothes… and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model. So let’s get started!

Fit Note: I’m 5’4″-ish, 120 pounds-ish (or at least I was pre-quarantine!), with a slight pear shape. My usual size is XS/0. 

Tops & Tees //

How could I not love these colorful stripes?! This button-front top has a cute tie and sporty tank style. It’s slightly textured, and a great medium weight with no sheerness… plus bra-friendly. It comes in other stripes and solids, too.

And I’ve worn these jeans non-stop for the last month, and can confirm they are really good! The curvy fit is so comfortable with more room through the hips and bum, and just enough stretch to keep their shape after repeated wears. The denim is soft and opaque, with no show-through!

This knit top is pajama-soft, and in a great lightweight for steamy days. It has a feminine ruffle detail at the neck, and added length for wearing out or tucking. It comes in several colors, but I thought this mint was so fresh.

Let’s dress it up a bit, shall we? This woven top is perfect for work and weekend, with a flattering and feminine shape and fit. Cap sleeves and pleating give it some detail, and the slightly A-line shape falls away from the body. Wear it long or tucked, and with everything from trousers and skirts, to jeans and shorts.

I love all things pink and red, and this pattern is too cute! It’s a crisp button-front shirt, that’s both soft and structured. And even better, it’s a no-wrinkle fabric!

Okay, moving back to cozier styles… this tank is made of the softest lightweight fleece that feels cool and silky soft. I love the longer length and swing style for a comfortable and forgiving fit. The tank style is sporty, and completely bra-friendly. Dress it up a bit with jeans, tuck it in to shorts, or wear around the house with your favorite joggers.

I love a good linen-blend for summer, and this button-front shirt is the perfect relaxed fit. It has front pockets and a dropped shoulder, with just enough texture.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small, but would stick with your true size unless you prefer it oversized like this fit.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen this sweater a few times already. I think I wore it twice this week already! I’m a sucker for the colorful stripes, and the lightweight is great for spring. It’s super versatile for work and weekend combos.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing am XS, but it’s a touch tight through the arms, so I’d size up one.

I’ve yet to find a retailer that excels at the Henley like Old Navy! I love the drop shoulder and shoulder pleats of this linen-blend, giving it a relaxed, yet chic style. The white is a touch sheer, but not enough to deter.

Pants & Skirts //

Do I even need to talk about these wide leg pants? I’ve been wearing them in black non-stop, so of course I couldn’t resist the new colors! The blush pink is great for spring and summer, and so cute with a basic tank and sandals. They’re pajama-soft jersey knit, in a comfortable pull-on style with a wide elastic waist.

You know I love a good set, and all the stying options it gives. This darling combo is so cute worn together, or as separates. The fabric is soft and breathable, and both the top and skirt are fully-lined. The top has a little ruffle trim at the neck and arms, and the skirt an easy pull-on style with comfortable elastic waist.

The floral pattern is delicate, but not too sweet, with just a touch of metallic thread to make it special.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS top and XS petite skirt, but would prefer the length of a regular.

I did a happy dance with this dress… always the sign of a winner! Can you even believe it’s from Target?! Fully-lined in a sturdy cotton, it has the cutest embroidered details, flutter sleeve, and A-line shape. I’m so smitten, I’ve already ordered it in white!

The tie-dye trend is going strong, and this jersey knit swing dress is such a cute, affordable option! It has a racerback neckline, and an A-line fit that doesn’t cling or hug the body. It’s silky-soft and cool to the touch… perfect with sandals for day, or over your swimsuit as a cute cover-up. Wear it with sandals, or add a jean jacket and sneakers.

A classic shirt dress in the cutest stripes for summer, this linen-blend is a comfortable and easy fit. Dress it up a bit with wedges, or keep it simple with flats.

This knit dress is a great medium weight that holds its shape and doesn’t show through. Completely bra-friendly with a fit-and-flare skirt, it’s super soft and breezy, with great movement. The midi length makes it perfect for dressing up a bit, too.

The same sweet pink and red print as the shirt, this one in a lovely faux wrap dress. It’s fully-lined with a slight asymmetrical hem. And the sandals? One word: Obsessed. They’ll replace wedges and espadrilles for me this summer.

Smitten doesn’t even begin to describe my feelings for this jumpsuit! I love the deep indigo color and wide legs. The waist is elastic with a removable belt, and the woven material is great for dressing it up or down.

Can we pause for this pattern please?! So cute, right?! I love the shades of navy and blue, and the cute flutter sleeves. The linen-blend is thick and fairly sturdy, with a slightly longer inseam and tie waist. This is a keeper for me!

Okay, this one is actually an oversized tunic… but I sized up to wear as a swim coverup. I love the classic popover style and wide stripes. Size up to wear it as a cover-up, or go with your usual size as a tunic shirt with jeans and shorts.

Undergarments & Loungewear //

I’m still living in loungewear at home, but now that it’s warming up, the sweatpants need a break. This set is super cute, in a thick cotton with a touch of stretch. The sweatshirt is a pullover style, and the shorts have an elastic waist and drawstring. It’s soft, but lined in terrycloth, so not as plush as most Lou & Gray pieces.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS in both pieces.

Okay, do you watch my Monday Mail Days on Instagram Stories? It’s where I find and review a range of products, from mosquito repellants to mascara. (Find the all HERE.) Last week I was raving about finding my favorite strapless/backless bra on Amazon. I’ve been wearing this for years and was excited to find it for a better price on Amazon (find it HERE).

Well, since y’all are incredibly resourceful, several of you told me Target sells a version of it, too… for half the price! So of course I had to try it out. And had I never worn the original NuBra, I’d be thrilled with this Target version. It does the same job, but just a little different. The material isn’t as soft, the cups are a little smaller, and the nude color is darker. The adhesive is a little gummier, too.

So my advice… if you only need it for occasional wear, go for the Target version. If you’ll wear it more frequently, have sensitive skin, and are on the fairer side, I’d go for the NuBra. I’ll be sticking with the NuBra.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small in both, use the bra-sizing for best fit.

Same thing with my go-to True and Co wireless Bralette. The same company makes one for Nordstrom, and another for Target (again, at half the price!). And here’s the deal, absolutely the Target option is good… but in order to reduce the price, they have to make concessions.

First is the composition of materials… the Nordstrom option is silkier and softer, made in a slightly more luxe fabric. The second is the removable pads… the Target version has round pads made of a stiff foam. The Nordstrom pads are tapered and more naturally-shaped. And lastly, both have soft, adjustable straps, but the Nordstrom Bralette can be converted to racerback, where as the Target is fixed.

So again, the Target version is absolutely a great option, but it’s not like you’re getting the exact same bra at a better price. Had I never worn the Nordstrom True & Co Bralette, I’d be thrilled with the Target find.
