Dressing Room Diaries - Hi Sugarplum!

Happy Friday, friends, and cheers to the weekend! Mr. College Guy is submitting his final project today, and his freshman year will be complete. It feels like just yesterday we dropped him off at his dorm for the first time… I can still recall the devastation I felt, and the darkness that followed for days after.

But looking back now, it was a beautiful year full of so much growth and fun. Watching him become a man, and figure out who he wants that man to be, is incredible to watch. The year wasn’t without hurdles, but it also wasn’t near as hard as I feared it would be.

And honestly, it flew by! I hope he’s able to return to campus in the Fall, and look forward to what the rest of this experience has in store.

Today I’ve got a new Dressing Room Diaries, and it’s a GOOD one. It’s been awhile since I shared one of these, so there’s a lot of fun new finds. I focused on mostly cute tops and easy separates for our transitional living right now, but I’m honestly ready to be out of sweatpants!

You know the drill with Dressing Room Diaries… the shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, and I’m in desperate need of a hairbrush. But it’s real life, real girl, real clothes… and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model. So let’s get started!

Fit Note: I’m 5’4″-ish, 120 pounds-ish (or at least I was pre-quarantine!), with a slight pear shape. My usual size is XS/0.

Tops & Blouses //

This top was a surprise find and one I’ll reach for a lot in the coming months. It’s a soft brushed rayon with the cutest ruffle collar and puffed sleeves… making it equal parts comfy and cute! It’s stretchy and long, and easily dresses up or down. The shorts are an investment, but honestly my favorite pair and pretty much the only ones I wear.

I’m a sucker for embroidery… not to mention a flutter sleeve! This top is super-soft washed cotton, and is cool and lightweight. It’s got a forgiving bell-shape through the torso, and on the longer side.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but would size down one.

I wore this statement top on Instagram Stories recently and thought my DMs would blow up! Y’all were just as crazy for the fun print and feminine details as me. It’s a crisp material with a touch of stretch, and the cutest puff sleeves with ruffle detail. It’s a little cropped, but not so much you can’t tuck it in.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 2.

This sweet little peplum is an easy top with jeans or shorts, and so lightweight for summer. It’s a linen-blend, with contrasting tortoise buttons up the back. It’s a touch sheer (you can see the outline of my jeans), but not so much that you can see my bra or need a cami.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS in the yellow and small in the blue. I prefer the XS, but would size up if you’re busty.

This faux-wrap top is great for everything from Zoom calls to date night. I love the fresh combo of navy and white for spring, and the finished hem gives it a tucked-in look. The woven fabric is lightweight and breathable.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS.

I love tops that feel like t-shirts!! This one has the body of your favorite cotton tee, with darling smocked and eyelet details. Wear it with everything from shorts to skirts, it’s cute untucked with jeans or tucked in for a polished look.

Blue and white stripes for a steal! This darling top is a silky woven material that’s cool and lightweight. I love the flutter sleeves (they need steaming) and v-neck. It’s a longer length for wearing out or tucked, too.

Fit Tip: I usually size up in Old Navy tops, but this one is actually TTS. This is a small, but I’d prefer an XS.

The hardest part about this top was deciding on which color I wanted! The combos are too cute!! It’s a crisp cotton, with darling embroidery and ruffle details. It’s fully-lined with a subtle puff sleeve.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but would size down one if in-between.

Tanks & Tees //

If you’ve been following me on Instagram Stories lately, then you’ve seen this tank more often than not. It’s almost embarrassing how often I wear it, but it looks good with everything from shorts to skirts to pants! Even loungewear! I love the almost silky material that drapes rather than hugs, and the scoop neck is subtly sexy and sporty. Plus it’s an incredible price.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a US2 for a close fit, but I’d go up one if in-between or you prefer it a little drapey.

Old Navy makes a great henley, and their tank version is no different! It’s super stretchy, ribbed, and fitted, with operational buttons. I wear it with shorts, joggers and workout wear.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small, definitely size up.

I love the look and feel of linen tees… there’s something so effortlessly chic about them. This one has a subtle stripe and slightly cropped fit, and would be darling paired with white, too.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but would prefer a small. Size up one.

Another linen tee, this one in a cute henley style with cap sleeve. It’s longer and comes in great neutral colors for pairing with everything from shorts to pants.

Another tee with a kick… this one a super-soft cotton body with darling eyelet flutter sleeves. It’s dressy enough for skirts, but casual with jeans and shorts, too. It comes in a range of colors.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small, size up one.

Denim, Skirts & Pants //

Okay, I did the dirty work for us and tried on no fewer than 10 pairs of white jeans in the last month. And these were the clear winners! They have a curvy fit, so there’s room for hips and bum (too-tight white jeans aren’t a good look), but don’t gape at the waistband. The pockets are perfectly placed and don’t show through, and the denim is thick and stretchy.

The light-colored buttons and hardware are perfect for spring and summer (compared to some that have dark, contrasting buttons), and the cropped ankle-length good for sandals, sneakers, and wedges.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 2p.

I did a little dance the moment I pulled these pants on! They’re a lightweight woven material that drapes and moves, with a cute tie waist. They’re pull-on style with elastic at the back for a super comfy fit, and I’m obsessed with this pattern. So cute with a jean jacket, too.

I shared these pull-on pants as my travel outfit when we flew to Greece last year, and they sold out same day! I’m thrilled they’re finally back, and you will be, too. They’re a thick and stretchy jersey knit, with wide elastic waistband, cropped length, and even pockets. Crazy comfy for wearing around the house, or styled for street wear with sneakers or sandals. I love this combo with a jean jacket, too.

This skirt has me craving lunch dates on a patio with friends!! The colors and print are so chic and bold, with an easy pull-on fit with elastic waist and removable tie-belt. The woven material is light and breezy, with no clinging. The side slit keeps the length flattering.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a US2 tank and PXS skirt. I chose petite for shorter length, but would size up one from non-petite sizing.

And finally, let’s chat dresses and jumpsuits. Starting with this statement maxi in an incredible print. I adore all the colors, and the fitted bodice with tiered skirt. It’s a sturdy, crisp cotton with pockets and adjustable straps.

I’ve had a few requests for wedding guest dresses, and this one is a stunner. It has gorgeous box pleats, a high-low hem, and a metallic thread giving it a slight shimmer. It’s completely bra-friendly, so it’s as comfy as it is stunning.
