Dressing Room Diaries

Happy Valentine’s Day, lovebugs! We’re spending our final day in Mexico, so maybe I’ll switch to a pink margarita in honor of the holiday?! I know it’s not ‘really’ a holiday, but it still feels weird being away from the kids today. It probably doesn’t even register with them, though. I did leave goodies behind, so that’s what they care about most!

Thank you for the love on this week’s Sugarplum Style, and the new darling finds under $40!  It’s hard to sit on opposite sides of the computer sometimes, so I always love hearing from you!

Today I’m excited to bring you a new Dressing Room Diaries, and it’s a good one with so many great finds for the season. But I’m warning you, I’m writing this after a margarita (or two), so no guarantees on etiquette or grammar!

You know the drill with Dressing Room Diaries…I hunt down some of the cutest items from my favorite retailers, and review them for you. As usual, the shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, and I’m in desperate need of a hairbrush. But it’s real life, real girl, real clothes…and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model. So let’s get started!

Fit Note: I’m 5’4″-ish, 120 pounds-ish (depending on the week’s taco count), with a slight pear shape. My usual size is XS/0.

This cardigan finally came back-in-stock, and I couldn’t wait to grab it in this oatmeal color! It’s lightweight and soft, with darling ribbed sleeves and hood, and even an inside drawstring for more ways to wear it. You can see it fully covers the bum, too.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS

Hooded Cardigan | Scoop TeeJeans | Flats

It comes in a few colors, and looks cute tied, too.

Another fun cardigan find…this one comes in several stripes and some solids. It’s a great medium weight for Fall to Spring, with ribbed trim and front pockets.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS

Striped Cardigan | Scoop TeeJeans | Sandals in ‘Makeup’

Two things about this combo…one, I’m cuckoo for the color combo of this cap sleeve blouse. Such a darling fit and so versatile. And two, this pants are legit for running around or work. They’re a thick, stretchy knit that seem to fit all the right places, and a great ankle length for flats now and sandals later.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS top and size 0 pant.

Cap Sleeve Blouse | Knit Trouser | Flats

I’m a sucker for cute sweatshirts, and this one came with me to Mexico. It’s perfect for chilly nights, and so cute with cut-offs! The body is traditional sweatshirt material, but with the cutest eyelet peplum trim.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small for more room.

Camo is one of my favorite patterns, and doesn’t look to be going anywhere soon. This is jacket/shirt hybrid, which means it’s great for transitional weather. Not too warm or bulky, with flattering fit and cute details.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS

Camo Utility Jacket | Jeans | Flats

I don’t know which of these knit crewnecks is more me…the pink and red, or wide stripes!? At this price, they both can be! It’s a lightweight knit, but still thick enough for layering.

Fit Tip: I sized up to a small for more relaxed fit.

Sweater | Jeans

My peeps at Gibson know how to make cozy, and this top is perfect for jeans, cut-offs, and even with pajamas around the house! I love the half-tuck for a little extra something-something.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS, but also love the fit of sizing down.

Cozy Twist Front Pullover | Jeans | Flats

I have this scoopneck tee in several colors, and now stripes! It’s the softest, lightweight cotton, with a little pocket and perfect scoop…and under $25!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but size up one if you carry weight in your upper arms.

Rounded V-Neck Tee | Jeans

Last year’s reader-favorite peplum tee, now back in several new colors and stripes! Soft, sturdy cotton with a relaxed fit through the body. The peplum falls in the right spot too (some peplum can look a little maternity).

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS

Speaking of sweatshirts…LOVE this striped crewneck! Soft and thick, but not too heavy…I’ll wear it with jeans or shorts, and under jackets.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing small

Relaxed Sweatshirt for Women | Jeans | Flats

My closet has gingham in every color of the rainbow…it’s just the best layering pattern! This is a lightweight material perfect for steamy days, and the cutest tie at the waist. I love the cobalt blue, too!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing small.

Relaxed Gingham Tie-Hem Shirt | Jeans | Flats

The softest, thickest tee I’ve tried in awhile, in the cutest pink and red wide stripes! And of course paired with my favorite utility jacket. Seriously, you won’t find a better one for the price!! (I have it in 4 colors)

Fit Tip: The tee runs small, I’m wearing a small and it’s still tight. The jacket is true, I’m wearing XS

Long Sleeve Tee | Twill Utility Jacket |  Jeans

I seriously layer this jacket over everything in Spring and Fall…it’s always cute!

Let’s switch it up from tops….this knit maxi was another reader-favorite last year, and not only back in new colors, but on sale for under $40! It’s soft and flowy, with a flattering drawstring fit (and adjustable straps). It’s a little long for flats on me, but an easy hem.

Fit Tip: I’m in an XS

Knit Maxi Dress

Thank goodness for the tequila, or I don’t know that I’d have the guts to share these swimsuits on the internets…but they’re too cute for you not to see! I honestly never loved a high-waist swimsuit on me, but these are chaining the game. I actually brought a few to Mexico, and I have to say, high-waist is LIBERATING!!! And these are even husband-approved!!

The ric rac is a pique nylon, without a lot of stretch. I’d say it’s more of a ‘looking cute by the pool’ kind of suit, you know what I mean. The red stripes are traditional lycra, and fits like a dream. I’m pretty sure I could dominate some sand volleyball in this one.

Fit Tip: I always size up to smalls in swimsuits…all four of these pieces are small, but I actually needed an XS in the ric-rac bottoms.

One-Shoulder Swim Top | Ric Rac Swim Bottom | Striped Swim Top | Striped Swim Bottom

Let’s wrap with some darling pajama options…these jogger-style are insanely soft, and so darling!! I ordered up thinking they were a legging-style, so these are too big on me. But I’ve already got the right size on the way. Total winners.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small in the pic, but need my usual XS

Rounded V-Neck Tee | Dreamy Jogger Pant

I adore this pajama set, and packed it for Mexico…soft, thick, jersey cotton in the cutest stripes!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but it did shrink a little in the dryer, so I’d recommend sizing up.

Striped Pajama Set

And finally, what I wore on my shopping expedition…plus the cutest crossbody bag. Can you believe it’s Old Navy?!!? Comes in a preppy green and navy combo, too.

Sweater | Jeans | BagFlats

You may have noticed my new white jeans…I wore them in pretty much every pic! I love white jeans year-round, and once I find a pair that fits well, I reach for them constantly. White just looks so fresh with all the colors. These fit beautifully, with good stretch and great ankle length. I’ll report back once I’ve had them a little longer!

Okay, that’s it for today…I’m off in search of nachos! I do hope you found this post helpful, and maybe discovered some new goodies. Oh, and did you notice the new white jeans I’m sporting in most of the pics? Thick, stretchy cotton with a great ankle length.

I love the pjs and have them. However, the buttons come undone easily during the night. I’m small so that’s not the problem. Does this happen to you? #wardrobemalfunction

I don’t actually ‘sleep’ in my pajamas….they are just for lounging around before bed, so I don’t have that problem with them.

Thank you for sharing these cute pieces! I ordered the Tippi sweater in “Fresh Rose” (love me some pink!) It seems these sweaters can become a collection – as in a collection of many colors? 🙂 Your trip looks like it has been fabulous and relaxing!
