Cheers to Friday, friends, and the weekend ahead! I’m picking up the kids from camp later today, and can hardly wait to see their happy, tired faces! I’m sure Little Miss will be full of stories, and both of them will be excited to crash in their own beds (especially since I just changed to these sheets!).
Today I’m excited to bring you another Dressing Room Diaries with my darling Mama Sugarplum. I don’t plan for this to become a weekly series (unless y’all like it so frequently??), but with the biggest sale of the year going strong, there’s just too much to cover in a week or two!
You know the drill with Dressing Room Diaries…I hunt down some of the cutest items from my favorite retailers, and review them for you. As usual, the shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, and I’m in desperate need of a hairbrush. Many of the items aren’t a good fit for me…but it’s real life, real girl, real clothes…and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model. So let’s get started!
Fit Note: I’m 5’4″-ish, 120 pounds-ish (depending on the week’s taco count), with a slight pear shape. Mama Sugarplum is 5’1″, with an hourglass figure. Our usual size is XS/0.
Let’s kick things off with everyone’s favorite Fall staple…the oversized cardigan! There are so many great options this year, and you know this one is my hands-down fave, but this grandpa style is super cute, too. Love the muted colors and wide pockets, plus it’s soft and lightweight (not sheer).
You’ve heard me sing the praises of this tee…it really is pretty much the only one I own/wear. I grab a new white one every year, and added two shades of grey to my collection this year, too. I also can’t believe these cognac boots are still in stock, they are so chic and rich looking!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS in both the cardi and tee. Also, these favorite jeans have restocked once already, so keep an eye out for more!
Cardigan | Favorite Tee | Pendant Necklace | Mid-Rise Jeans | Cognac Booties | Earrings | Leather Cuff
This poncho has a lot of great things going for it…soft sweatshirt material, fleece lining, actual armholes! The thing that detracted me, but could very well be a selling point for you, was its warmth factor!! I thought I was going to have a heat stroke in the three minutes I had it on! #dramatic But really, it’s super warm and cozy. Did I mention it’s warm?
Fit Tip: It runs oversized, I’m wearing an XS.
Poncho | Distressed Jeans | Cognac Boots | Leather Cuff | Bracelet
Mama Sugarplum agreed it was toasty, but loved how cozy it was, too. So cute with booties and a cognac tote, right?
I’m actually wearing a high-low fleece cardigan that I was sure was going to be a favorite, but unfortunately, the arms are bizarrely tight. It feels amazing, like soft cottony-fleece, so I’d try sizing up if you want it. My bag is a pretty good dupe, too, at only $35!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS cardigan. The jeans are keepers, and true to size.
Fleece Cardigan | Poncho | My Bag | Distressed Jeans | Cognac Booties | Necklace | Mid Rise Jeans | Her Tote
This cashmere cardigan has three-quarter sleeves and feels like butter. And I have no idea how it’s under $100! Normally I gravitate to gray and black cardigans, but I loved this blue. It comes in several colors, including a fun plum and creamy oatmeal.
Fit Tip: It’s a one-size, and fits 0-16.
Cashmere Cardigan | Favorite Tee | Mid-Rise Jeans | Waterproof Bootie | Earrings | Initial Necklace
Another cashmere beauty, this one under $100 also(!!!), is this v-neck poncho. It’s buttery-soft and insanely chic. I’m wearing the oatmeal, but it also comes in three other great neutrals. I’d also pair it with these leggings and peep toe booties for an easy night out look.
Also, please note that these booties are waterproof! So if you aren’t a rainboots person, you might want to consider these!
Fit Tip: The poncho is one-size, and the booties are crazy-comfy and true to size.
Cashmere Poncho | Mid-Rise Jeans | Waterproof Bootie | Leather Cuff | Initial Necklace
Moving right along with the cashmere train…this one a sleeveless vest. It has a waterfall drape front, and longer length, making it perfect for pairing with leggings. You could layer it over a long-sleeve tee like this, or dress it up over a collared shirt for work.
Fit Tip: The sweater vest is one-size.
Cashmere Sweater Vest | Striped Tee | Distressed Jeans | Peep-Toe Booties | Color-block Tote | Leather Cuff
The vest is long, but still worked on my mom’s petite frame. We love these long-sleeve tees, and her black jeans fit like a glove!
Cashmere Sweater Vest | Long Sleeve Tee | Necklace | Mid Rise Jeans | Booties | Striped Tee | Black Jeans | Black Booties | Pendant Necklace
The boatneck sweater is a thick knit, with lots of stretch and hugs the torso. You could tuck it in to slacks or a skirt for work, but the split hem allows it to be worn out, as well. I didn’t love the neckline, but Mama Sugarplum was a big fan.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS.
Boatneck Sweater | Distressed Jeans | Peep Toe Bootie | Leather Cuff | Hoop Earring
Boatneck Sweater | Distressed Jeans | Peep Toe Booties | Her Jeans | Her Booties
How could I resist trying this top…I mean, stripes and bows!! It’s a cotton/linen blend, and the shoulders actually stay put. It’s so fresh paired with white jeans or shorts, but I styled it with these amazing black jeans and booties for a night out look.
Fit Tip: The top and jeans are true to size, I’m wearing an XS and 26.
Off-the-Shoulder Top | Black Jeans | Peep Toe Booties | Leather Cuff
I was feeling all kinds of #girlboss in this chic combo. The turtleneck is a soft merino wool with stretchy ribbing. It’s great worn alone, but fitted enough to layer under a blazer or jacket later.
The trousers have a subtle plaid pattern and are made of suit fabric. The flared leg gives them some swagger, but I do wish they were lined.
Fit Tip: Both are true to size, I’m wearing an XS sweater and size 2 in the pants (which would require hemming for me).
Sleeveless Turtleneck | Trousers | Pendant Necklace | Velvet Pumps
I don’t know why mom didn’t try this combo on, but I wanted to share this pic because she’s obsessed with her pants! She actually got two pair in two sizes…one to wear as a sort of legging, and another to wear as trousers. They are extra-thick and stretchy, and extremely flattering.
Fit Tip: She ended up with a 2P and 4P…so go with your usual size for a slim fit, or go up a size for a trouser fit. I didn’t try them, so I can’t speak to the sizing of the regular fit.
Sleeveless Turtleneck | Trousers | Pendant Necklace | Velvet Pumps | Peplum Top | Ankle Pants
Let’s move on to my favorite category…dresses. This one is a sort of sweater dress, with a thick, stretchy material. It hugs the torso and flares out a bit at the hips for a flattering fit, and the exposed zipper is a fun detail.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but would recommend sizing down if you’re in between.
Color block Sweater Dress | Velvet Pumps
This fit-and-flare has sheer stripes at the neckline and hem, showing just a hint of skin. It falls to the knee, but the sheerness gives it the illusion of being shorter, so it would be a fun party dress.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a very snug XS, so I’d consider sizing up.
Fit-and-Flare Dress | Velvet Pumps
Fit and Flare Dress | Color block Sweater Dress | Velvet Pumps
Color Block Sweater Dress | Fit and Flare Dress | Velvet Pumps
This ruffle tiered dress was a little boho for my style, but Mama Sugarplum adored it on me and lobbied hard for me to take it home. It’s a drapey rayon material with ruffle trim along the placket and drop waist. There’s a band of elastic around the hips to keep it from flying up.
Fit Tip: It runs large, I’m wearing an XS.
Ruffle Tiered Dress | Cognac Boots
This floral number has ‘vacation’ written all over it! I love the halter neckline, and vibrant cobalt blue. The ruffles are a fun detail, but the placement might not be good if you’re busty. Also, these sandals were certainly an investment, but this post is proof that they go with everything!!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a regular XS in the dress, and my sandals are the color ‘Makeup’. I sized up half in them, but I have a high arch.
Floral Ruffle Dress | Sandals | Earrings
A good shirtdress never goes out of style, and this one is a crisp cotton poplin with darling cap sleeves. Obviously I’m stuck in the 80s because I can never resist popping a collar! The dress nips in just a tad at the waist, but is mostly a straight fit.
This necklace has already been in heavy rotation…it goes with everything and isn’t heavy on my neck at all.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a regular 0.
Chambray Shirtdress | Necklace | Sandals | Earrings
Okay, I just had to try these tops for myself…they looked so fun online! And yes, they’re both fun, but just a bit too much for my style and frame. Maybe if I pulled my hair back and wore a simple earring?! The skirt is darling though.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS in both tops, and a 0P in the skirt.
Bow Top | Ruffle Neck Top | Plaid Skirt | Velvet Pumps | Metallic Tassel Earrings
I love a good t-shirt dress, for both running around town and throwing over a swimsuit. This one has cute ruffles on the drop sleeve and pockets!
Fit Tip: I sized up to a small for more length and a relaxed fit.
Ruffle Sleeve T-Shirt Dress (similar also on sale) | Necklace | Sandals | Earrings
This is probably my favorite workwear-friendly dress from the Sale…thick knit with flattering shape and classic belt. It’s a combo of navy, black and white for a fun graphic color block print.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 2p, but would prefer a regular size for lower waist placement and a little more length.
Color Block Belted Dress | Velvet Pumps
This wool blend peacoat is stunning, with a sweet tulip hem and wide collar. It fits well through the shoulder so it’s not overwhelming, and has a chic band across the back. But those buttons are tragic!!? Why would they put cheap, shiny discs on such a gorgeous coat?! Fortunately, that’s a quick fix and it would be fun to customize with your own style of buttons!
Fit Tip: I sized up to a 4 for more layering room. These boots are also amazing and true to size.
Peacoat | Distressed Jeans | Tall Booties
We’re headed to the beach soon, so I grabbed a few lightweight tops on super sale! I’ve been swooning over this one for a few months (it was featured in my Fun in the Sun post), and it did not disappoint. It’s a cotton/linen blend and fully lined. I love all the color options it gives for pairing with shorts!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 0, and the skirt is from this post, and I sized down to a 25.
Embroidered Tank | Raw Hem Skirt | Sandals
This embroidered top has sweet ruffle sleeves and cute tassel ties. It’s a tad sheer, but not to the point you’d need to layer a cami. I actually took home the black and red option!
Fit Tip: I sized up to a small for more room.
Embroidered Top with Tassel Ties | Raw Hem Skirt | Sandals
This dress was a surprise, and looks substantially more expensive in person! It’s a thick cotton/linen blend, and fully lined. the hem has a pretty lace edge, and the halter-style ties on each shoulder for a custom fit depending on your bust.
Fit Tip: I sized up to a small.
Lace Trim Halter Dress | Sandals
This dress was exactly what I expected, and everything I wanted for the beach. It’s a silky jersey knit with lots of stretch. I’ll wear it with flip flops around town, but likely use it more as a coverup.
Fit Tip: I sized up to a small.
If you made it through this post, you deserve a drink nap!! So how about some heavenly pjs?! We each paired our crazy-soft lounge pants with our favorite tees…and you should have heard us when we tried these slippers for the first time! I also love that they have a rubber sole.
Fit Tip: Our tees are both XS, our pj pants are smalls (we sized up), and I’d recommend sizing up on the slippers. They actually come up around your heel, so your entire foot is wrapped in goodness.
Favorite Tee | Striped PJ Pants | Long-Sleeve Tee | Jogger PJs | Slippers
One last thing for today…I won’t be showing it on, but I wouldn’t be a good girlfriend if I didn’t tell you about this bra! Usually, the first thing I do when I get home is take my bra off (then reach for this cardi). You know that, ‘Ah, I can breathe’ moment?
Well, with this bra, I don’t have an urgent need to take it off!!?? In fact, I’ve left it on all evening several times and didn’t even realize it! It has just enough padding to smooth things out, and enough lift to keep things perky…plus, it’s really comfortable and pretty. The 1,000 5-star reviews seem to agree with me. So there you go, if you need a new bra, I can’t recommend this one enough…especially while it’s on sale!
Okay, I think that’s enough for today! I do hope you found this post helpful, and maybe discovered some new goodies. What’s your favorite from this round of Dressing Room Diaries? To see all my reviews and fit tips from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, click here. Happy weekend, lovebugs!

Some great ones, right?! Happy weekend!
I love the dressing room diaries and really look forward to them. I have ended up purchasing quite a few of the items that you highlight. I would love to see them weekly!
Yay, I love hearing that, Jackie! Thanks so much! I’ll try to increase the frequency! xo
Is it weird that I want to come shop with you and your mama???? Because I do!!!
Is it weird that I want you to?! 😉 xo
Do you have a link for the white, brown and black tote you said was $35??
Yes ma’am…sorry about that! Here’s the link…make sure you note the dimensions, it’s a big one! http://bit.ly/2ud3ab2
Love your dressing room diaries! Can you link to the tote with the white on it please?
Oopsie Daisy…sorry about that, Amye! Here’s the link: http://bit.ly/2ud3ab2
Cassie, I LOVE the boat neck sweater on you! I know you weren’t a big fan but it’s seriously one of my favorite outfits in this post. I will be looking for that sweater on my next trip to Nordstrom!
Really?! Thank you! Better grab it while on sale! xo
Yes to every week! I don’t know how you would find time to do it but I really look forward to your dressing room diaries. I’m between your age and Mama Sugarplum so it is fantastic to see you both wearing the same clothes. I get a lot of ideas from the two of you! (my budget doesn’t always love it but I do!)
Keep up the great work and THANK YOU!
Thanks, Lisa!! I’m thrilled you find inspiration here, and will try to increase the DRD frequency!! happy Friday! xo
Cassie,
I love your dressing room diaries, especially with Mama SP. I’d love to see them every week! Thanks for sharing with us!
Thanks so much, Naomi!! I don’t know if I could manage weekly, but love knowing y’all like the series! I’ll see what I can do! 😉 xo
Love the shirt dress and necklace. That is definitely my style. Looks great on you.
Isn’t that swingy dress from Old Navy something else?!! It took a three tries to get the size right – I’m 5’3″ and about 118# before breakfast. I found the petite XS and S too short – if I had dropped my keys they would’ve had to stay on the ground! The regular XS was a dream and now on my way to buy more.
I don’t think I’m alone when I say I how much I adore Dressing Room Diaries; next to your travel posts, they are my favorite! Happy Friday!!
Say no to the pancho and yes to the Pajammies! lol When you say FIT tip I always think your going to share you secrets for staying so trim! Love ya girl! Looking amazing as always!Kiss those kiddos for me!

The post with you and your mom are my favorites and I hope you continue to have them weekly.
I probably say this all the time, but I love your dressing room diaries, especially with your Momma. You two are are so cute together, you must have a great time. I love hitting Nordstrom with my mom, we have a Nordstrom date next month together and I can’t wait. We are going to do some fall shopping, I need boots and she says she needs ‘a couple jackets’. I love that tiered dress that you tried on, I’ve had my eye on it but can’t decide if it will look good on me. I’m so indecisive. Thanks for sharing this awesome post and have a great weekend.

Have become a devoted reader and love your posts and ideas so thank you so much! Quick question. Several of the links for the jeans in the first part of the post are directed to the Kendra Scott earrings (or maybe it’s just me!). I assume they are Articles of Society, but what style? Thanks so much!
Please share the link and sizing for the non-distressed jeans that currently link to the Kendra Scott earrings. Thanks!
Dressing Room Diaries with Mama Sugarplum is one of my very favorite posts! I look forward to them and would love for them to be a weekly series. I end up buying quite a few items featured here because it is really helpful to see the pieces on both of your bodies and to hear what each of you like or dislike about each piece. Hope your kiddos had a wonderful time at camp! I’m picking up two of my kids tomorrow and I am so excited!!
I love your dressing room diaries posts! They are so fun and you do such a great job of describing the pieces of clothing! I would love it if you would include what you bought and what you left behind. We then could look forward to seeing the items you bought styled in future posts. 😊
I am thinking about ordering the Natori bra. Some of the reviews did say that the cup size ran small, and you should size up. Did you find that to be true? I love your blog, and the Dressing Room Diaries are one of my favorites!!
LOVE dressing room diaries!
I love the dressing room posts with Mama SP! I’m between your ages and it’s the reason I started following your blog. PLEASE keep them up!
I love the Dressing Room Diaries with Mama SP also! I just ordered a bunch of stuff from the Anniversary Sale because of your pics/tips. I think weekly diaries with Mama SP would be awesome–I’m between your ages and find these most helpful!
Love seeing Outfits on both you and Mama SP. it shows how different clothes can look on different shapes.
Please, what is the lipstick color and brand Mama SP is wearing on this post?
Oh how I wish this post had been up before I went to Nordstrom! Living in Canada I plan my summer holiday around the Nordstrom sale, but clearly missed some great pieces!
Ordered the Old Navy swing dress and it came today. Love!!! Bought three dresses for a total of $27 and love all three. Thanks for the heads up!
Thrilled to hear it was a hit for you!
Great post but I think you got the pant wrong on the last pic of Mama in the joggers…..the ankle is different in the one you linked to. I think it was this one maybe? http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/make-model-brushed-hacci-jogger-pants/4239444?origin=category-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=GREY%20FLANNEL%20MARL Would love to know because they are adorable!
yes! Thank you for catching that and updating the link! xo
