Date Day Style

Thanks for the love on our Cocoa & Cocktails soiree yesterday…it sounds like we’re all ready for the holiday party season! Or at least, a piping hot cup of cocoa with extra whipped cream!

The party season started for me last week with my birthday, and pretty much won’t stop until after New Years. Or that’s how I justify extra dessert for the next six weeks anyway. My birthday fell on a school day, so Mr. SP treated me to a cozy lunch date to celebrate.

It felt a little clandestine meeting in the middle of the day like that…which seemed to make us giddier than usual.

It was still warm enough to wear this dress alone, but I can’t wait to layer it over a striped top and knee boots. I’ve tried on several sweater dresses, and most are either way too tight to be flattering on this bootie, or so relaxed they looked like a potato sack. This one was juuuuuust right. Mr. SP seemed to appreciate it, as well. #youknowwhatImsayin This one is a good option, too, if you prefer a crew neck.

{Where We Ate}
//  Mercat Bistro  //
This cozy little cafe is trés chic, and one of the most Instagrammed spots in the city. It’s charming, warm, and very Parisian. During the week, it hosts a mostly business crowd, but weekends bring out the young stylish, and theatre patrons (the Arts District is nearby). Start next door at Saint Ann for a drink if you’re making a night of it.
{What’s Good}
I think it’s a little pricey for a casual meal, but the ambiance is hard to beat for a lunch rendezvous. The french onion soup is spot-on, and definitely plan on lingering over cappuccino and pastries. Brunch is really when Mercat shines, but be prepared to wait!

He also surprised me with this ring, which I’m madly in love with! I guess he forgot he’d already ‘given’ me these boots. 😉 Now I’m on the hunt for great gifts for him this Christmas. We consider our frequent travels as our main anniversary, birthday and Christmas gifts, so we aren’t extravagant gift-givers with each other. What will you be giving your main squeeze this season? Here are a few things that have caught my eye…

    Okay I just want to say (hopefully it's not creepy, can't be as creepy as the penis enlargement offers) you are so gorgeous 🙂 and even if your date night pics are staged, you can see the love there. I'm so glad I get to have a glimpse into your world, hopefully one day I can have that too, having mostly grown children and having date night again for real.

    I know that it's not quite cool enough for constant tights/leggings in Dallas yet but I'm wondering if/when you will do a Style post that helps a girl out with taupe booties and how to style them with dresses and tights! I'm not sure I can pull off the taupe on black tights look. I got the grey and burgundy in the cowl neck Old Navy dress you posted about the other day that was on sale and I want to spice it up a bit more than the standard black tights and tall black boots. Love the day date idea and I feel the same way when I meet my husband for a lunch time rendez-vous at our favorite lunch spots. Happy Belated Birthday!

    What an adorable couple! And….what a treat to see some men's clothes links for a change. I hope you will be able to talk him into doing that again very soon! I added a few things to my cart for my husband for Christmas.
