Christmas at Home | Our Christmas Tree

First up, thanks so much for the love on my hair tutorial yesterday! I’m thrilled you found it helpful, and will try and include more beauty posts in the new year. I answered questions in the comments, so be sure to check back there if you had one.

Last week I shared our front porch all decked out for the holiday, and today it’s all about the Christmas tree. Grab your cocoa and come on in!

As soon as I spotted this buffalo plaid ribbon at Hobby Lobby, I knew I had my theme for the year! I love it paired with my disco ball and snowy pinecone ornaments from World Market for a sort of rustic glam vibe.

Sugarplum Tip: No need to buy all new holiday decor in order to mix things up…focus on a single print or pattern, and use it for accents throughout your house. This plaid ribbon appears on the tree, packages, and wreaths. It’s literally the only new thing I purchased, but still created a different tree from last year.ย

I wrapped the ribbon loosely around the tree, looping it in the branches using Michael’s tips, and love how it turned out! We have a 9-foot tree, and the inexpensive ribbon helps cut down on the number of ornaments needed to fill it up, too. #bonus

The pinecone ornaments are serious bang for your buck, and look so pretty clipped to the ends of branches.

Sugarplum Tip: Wrapped packages can be part of the decor, too! Choose two or three wrapping papers and ribbons that coordinate with each other, and the theme of the tree, for a cohesive look. For a special touch, add these gold labels as gift tags.

Have you tried this Caramel Bark?! Ohemgee…it’s divine! It makes a great little neighbor or hostess gift, too (it’s on sale right now!).

Christmas came early for us, with this little stinker! So far she hasn’t shown any interest in the packages or tree!

Sugarplum Tip: Stash your wrapping supplies in a cute basket by the tree…it looks like part of the decor, and makes life easier by having it all together and nearby.

Here’s a peek of the tree from the Family Room…I’ll be sharing more of our Holiday at Home in the next couple of weeks. Do you decorate your tree with a color palette or theme each year? I’d love to hear how you decorate yours!

P.S…A little PSA for all my Dallas/Ft. Worth girls…beauty guru Colleen Rothschild will be at the NorthPark Neiman-Marcus tonight from 5-8pm! She’s having a pop-up shop, so you can touch and smell all the products, plus Colleen is giving complementary skincare consultations. I’ve had the joy of meeting her, and she’s lovely and absolutely stunning in person. I’m hoping to make it out to get her recommendations (and my free gift with purchase!).ย

Great idea about the ribbon for a tall tree. We have an 8 footer and it is difficult to fill at times. May I ask where you find the photo frame ornaments? I have a number of them, but of late they have been scarce in the stores. As our family grows and grows up, I need more photo frames.

Thank you!! They are hard to find…I’ve grabbed them from Target and Pottery Barn in the past.

So pretty! Do your slippers have a good amount of support to them? Or does it feel more like walking barefoot? I’m looking for something to give some cush so I can use them for extended periods around the house.

Actually, I was just wondering if I could get away with wearing these OUT of the house, too! They feel like shoes! The bottoms are firm, and the suede is water-protected!

I appreciate this post so much. I don’t want to buy new ornaments every year; this is a inexpensive way to change things up (and the ribbon can be used for wreaths or packages next year if you want to change it up again!). Thank you for keeping it down to earth. (And I’m jealous your puppy isn’t interested in the tree — our kitten is all over it!!!!)

Thanks, ker!! I left the ribbon as a long, single piece so I could roll it back up and use again!!

Your tree looks great. I love that you have personal family ornaments in the mix. So many bloggers do a themed tree, and while they look nice- I just canโ€™t relate. Yours is a nice combination of personal and cohesive decor.

Thanks Britney! I have all our photo ornaments, and ones we’ve collected on travels, on this tree. The kids have a small tree upstairs for their homemade ornaments.

Well…I was about to ask if you’d think about doing a ribbon tutorial next year since yours looks so good – but you thought ahead and provided the link!! Thanks so much! I ventured into the ribbon-on-the-Christmas-tree trend a couple of years ago but have yet to master it. But you’re totally right – it helps to fill it up so much so that you don’t need quite so many ornaments. Love!!!

Gorgeous tree. Presents too pretty to open! It all looks like it belongs in a snowy cabin in the woods. Thanks! Oh, and careful of any chocolate under the tree w/the pups. They always wait until you’re out of sight to “indulge”.

Yes, Cassie. Thanks for keeping everything down to earth. Your blog has led me to find good items at a reasonable cost. Listened to a pod cast and was on a website recently that purported to be a great source for fashion but when I investigated, everything was high end pricy. Thanks for guiding us toward quality and reasonable prices.
