Back to School Style

Well, just like that…Summer Break is over. We tried to savor every moment, but somehow it still flew by. But that seems to be the case from the day kids come into your life, right? One moment, they are bald and squishy attached to your hip, and the next the’ve surpassed your height and have a much better head of hair.

Our 10th and 5th grader marched out the door for the first day of school this morning…one a little more excited than the other. (I think the early wake-up call had a lot to do with that.) Of course we had some last-minute shopping last week, to make sure their outfits were ‘first day worthy,’ and we found tons of great options at J.Crew Factory.

#Icanteven

Darling, right?! Occasionally I branch out for the blog, but for the most part I only shop a small handful of retailers…and J.Crew Factory is always one of my go-tos. The colors and patterns are right up my preppy-loving alley, and the styles are more timeless than trendy. Not to mention, the prices are budget-friendly (and awesome sales!).

Fit Tip: You moms of teenage boys will be thrilled to know J.Crew Factory starts at size 28 waist, and has extra-long inseams!

J.Crew Factory is almost always where I turn when planning our family Christmas card, too. (See a few here and here.) It’s the easiest spot I’ve found to effortlessly coordinate the entire family, in the styles we each love. But these fun pictures turned out so great, I may already have my card done this year! Can you believe we didn’t even have to direct them for the camera? I have no idea where they get their hamming-talents?!

I already miss their faces, and am counting down the minutes until they come back home, full of stories of their first day! Be kind to them, World, they are our whole life!

Have your babies returned to school yet? What’s their style of choice?

So precious! My kids have been back for just over a week. Sooo sad! I miss my babies so much! I also tried to slowly savor the summer but it flew by in a flash. The highlight of the first day of school is definitely the kids getting to wear their new gear. My son is head to toe athletic wear, mainly Under Armour and Nike, and my little girl will wear pretty much anything as long as no denim is involved! Hope your kiddos have a great first day!

    • Thanks, Momma!! My son was pretty much all athletic gear for the last few years, but he's slowly bringing in more stylish pieces. I'm sure age (girls) has something to do with it! And my Little Miss is the same way…no jeans, and only tennis shoes!

    • It's in Deep Ellum…not really a street, but the backside of a white brick building. It's actually facing a 'closed' parking lot. 😉

  10. Love it all!! That spot is an awesome backdrop for your BTS photos. I also love J Crew Factory for myself. I should see if the teen likes it too (even though she wears a uniform to school). We still have 2 more weeks of summer so I'm soaking up every minute.

    • Mine is last year's version…it's a reddish pink. But I did just pick up this year's pink…and it's a good one. 😉 I do size up one so it's not super fitted. xoxo

Back-to-School Style

One of my favorite things about going back-to-school (besides all the brand new pencils and notebooks), was getting new clothes. Even from an early age, I loved fashion and shopping (always on a limited budget!). My daughter, however, is not interested in shopping. Which is pretty funny considering she has a strong opinion about what she wears, and definitely has her own quirky style.

She likes creative and off-beat combinations (where oh where did she get that?!), but her first priority is comfort. She wants to be able to run and play, and not have her clothes be scratchy or restrictive. Since discovering Mini Boden, she’s completely changed her tune about shopping. She said their clothes are so comfy she could sleep in them, and there are no itchy tags or seams…but they are also really cute and fun! That’s high praise from a picky third-grader!

Hi Sugarplum | Back to School with Boden

I’ve been a fan for a few years, and always appreciate the quality that goes into Boden and Mini Boden clothing…everything is so well-made, and launders beautifully. And can we talk about how dang cute?! I wish they had these Dalmatian pants in  my size!

Some of my favorite pieces in my closet are Boden, and I know I’ll have them for years (like this outfit). Their collections are always full of fun colors and prints that I love to mix and match. You can bet you’ll be seeing a lot of these pieces on me this fall! I mean, stripes, polka dots, gold collars?!? Throw in a colorblocked clutch and I’m swooning.

  15. OK, 2 things:
You're daughter definitely inherited your "cute" genes.
And, could you please give us a tutorial on posing for pictures? You know, like your angles, where you look at, how you position your legs and arm? If I can't look as stylish as you in photos I at least want to look like I have no idea someone is taking my picture, like you do (and I mean that in a good way 🙂 instead of smiling frozenly into the lens.

    Posted 9.9.14 Reply
    • Girl, you are so funny…and too sweet! I have NO IDEA what I'm doing…I feel so uncomfortable and awkward every. single. time. Seriously. I usually look off because it's more comfortable than looking right at the camera for me, and turning a bit is a more flattering angle. I guess after taking pics like these for a few years, I've started to see which positions are more flattering, but I still freeze up everytime the camera comes out. Usually the ones where I'm not actually posing, but in 'mid' pose, turn out the best. xoxo
