Work It | Midi Skirt 2 Ways

Thanks so much for the love on our Fall Home Tour yesterday…I had so much fun zhushing and photographing the different areas. For those of you who love the home decor, stay tuned because there’s a big project coming soon.

Today’s post is for you style gurus, specifically the office crowd. I get a lot of requests for workwear styles, and as soon as I spotted this colorful skirt (on sale for 40% off!), I knew it was perfect for Work It! Even if your office environment is stuffy, your style doesn’t have to be, right!?

For the first look, I grounded the vibrant skirt with a classic black blouse and patent pumps. The pearls and red bag give it a ladylike flair, but make no mistake, this lady means business!! #insertfistbumpemoji
You may recognize the blouse and pumps from my last Work It post, so clearly they are workwear staples for me, but the blouse is also really cute with jeans and booties. See more styles with the bag here, too.

Fit Tip: Both the skirt and blouse run large, so definitely size down. I’m wearing a PXS in the top, and 0 in the skirt.

For the second look, I went a little more casual and bold for those of you with relaxed or creative office environments. The larger scale of the cactus print is similar to a floral, so it’s perfect for pairing with stripes. The necklace adds some bling, and the sandals and handbag keep it work-ready.

Sugarplum Style Tip: Balance fuller skirts with fitted tops and jackets to keep from looking overwhelmed by fabric. Some people feel like full skirts can add bulk, but they’re actually great for creating a small waist and disguising hips.

Which look is your favorite, or fits your work environment best? See more Work It styles here, and Work to Weekend looks here. And if you’re a fan of the a-line midi skirt, you might want to check out this {5 Ways} and this Work to Weekend. Happy humpday, lovebugs!

Sidenote: Did you see that Nordstrom now carries current season J.Crew?!?! Yes ma’am, my favorite fashion worlds collide. Now I get darling J.Crew pieces, with Nordstrom’s free shipping and returns, plus earning more Nordstrom Notes!! #winningcombo

    • It's absolutely this vibrant in real life…the online picture is really dull for some reason.

  3. I like it better with the lighter top and the blue jean jacket. I did not like it at all with the black top!!

I didn't even catch that it was a cactus print on your Instagram post but oh my! I have a new found crazy love for catus these days…. Just the potted variety so far. Love the AC necklace. I have the bracelet!

I love the stripes with the print. Oh heck, I love stripes with anything! At one point I counted my striped sweaters and T shirts; I think I've got eleven. Is that too many?

  8. So cute! It really helps to see things on a real person because I spotted this skirt last week and immediately thought "no way!", but it is absolutely adorable and I could see pairing it with a chambray blouse as well. Thanks for the inspiration and courage to try new things.

Cassie — you have made my day today! Those darling black pumps! So, I ordered them during the anniversary sale, a week and a half later after the sale ended, I get a note from Nordstroms telling me they are cancelling the order, as the shoes are not on backorder/they don't know when they are getting more in. Cust Service advised me to write the Item # down and to keep checking — they said they would honor the price, if they return. I have been checking about every 2 weeks, and I checked last week, and they weren't in yet! SO! This post, shows that they are — I am sooooo excited, and calling them now!
