Hey friends! I hope you all had a great weekend celebrating the awesome dads in your life! Last month, we were invited to come experience the Woodlands for a little family weekend getaway…and while we’d driven through the Woodlands countless times on the way to Houston and Galveston, we’d never actually stopped in the area…so we jumped at the chance to see a new (to us) spot in our home state.
We were shocked by this lush, picturesque area only three-and-a-half hours from Dallas! The Woodlands is almost like a hidden town, since it’s nestled among a forest of trees, with no buildings taller than the treetops.
We stayed at the Woodlands Resort, a huge family-friendly property tucked in 28,000 acres of the Texas Piney Woods. There were two golf courses, tennis courts, bike trails, and a spa…but no surprise, we spent most our time eating and playing in the multiple pools with slides and a lazy river. After such a busy school year, it was a treat to have some quality family time.

We feasted on the huge breakfast buffet each morning, and lunch was ordered poolside…but for evenings, we managed to change out of our swimsuits for a few hours, and explore the fun city just outside the property.
Travel Tip: I highly recommend catching a show at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion…it was named the second best amphitheater in the world! We saw Journey from the huge lawn area, and were so proud to hear our kids singing every word, to every song. Clearly we’re doing a slamming-job of parenting! #priorities #dontstopbelieving

Getting away isn’t always easy, but I’ve found the quality family time far outweighs the extra work and struggle it takes to make it happen. There’s just something about leaving work, friends, and responsibilities behind…even if only for a couple of days…that helps us to reconnect. I love this little tribe of mine, and feel immeasurably grateful that they’re mine!
Now can we talk about how tall our son is getting?! I think he grows an inch every week! Seriously, it feels like every time I turn around, I’m ordering him new shoes or shorts from Nordstrom (his fave #duh) because he’s outgrown something! I’m not complaining since I usually spot a little something-something for myself, too. 😉
Have you been to the Woodlands? Where are your favorite weekend getaway spots? Do you have any in Texas or Oklahoma we should check out next?!
*This post created in collaboration with Nordstrom, but all clothes, ideas, and pool hair are my own. Thank you for supporting Hi Sugarplum sponsors!*
This looks like s fun all inclusive place to go! And beautiful as well!! I grew up so close to the woodlands but have never really visited.
I am from the Woodlands and love it so much. Next time go to Dosey Doe's. It's an amazing music venue. Market Street is also great. Glad you enjoyed your visit.
I know y'all had such a great time, and the pictures totally capture that!!!!! We might need to head there as well! Oh, and you look DARLING as always.
I'm glad you guys had such a good time! I got married at The Woodlands Resort, but haven't been back since then…10 years. That might be a fun staycation for the family! 🙂 Next time you're in town, I definitely recommend Market Street for shopping and yummy food! 🙂
Of course your style is incredible in these pics and the Woodlands look super fun, but what I liked best is how much it looks like your kids like each other! You can tell a hell of a lot about how siblings feel about each other from their body language in pictures. High five to you and your husband for raising kids that seem to be having fun together and playing together.
What a sweet thing to say, thank you!!! (I always get a little nervous when I see an anonymous comment pop up! 😉 ) They have their moments, but for the most part, adore each other. I think their age difference has something to do with it. 😉 xo
Looks like so much fun! And your family is just the sweetest.
If you ever get a chance, try a weekend at the Horseshoe Bay Resort in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Rent jet skis or a pontoon boat, eat lakeside, go to the spa. Plus, they have LOTS of activities for the kiddos.
Um YEAH!! That sounds super fun…will def look into that! xo
My son turned 16 in March and has grown a foot in the last three years! Watch out!
I absolutely loved these pics of your sweet family!! I could feel the love through the pics 🙂 I was super impressed that your son let you hug him. Mine is 11 and frequently gives me the fist bump when I try to grab him…ha ha! Your family is precious. (Also, I don't have a google account so I have to be anonymous)- Jenny from VA
Looks like a great family weekend! I think it's so great that you can have so much fun together.
Just so bummed we couldn't connect that weekend! You're right about you're son- he's so tall now!!!
By the fall you will be able to visit the Pioneer Woman's new store – the Mercantile. I think she's in Oklahoma!!
I love your blog – you have a infectious enthusiasm for life!

Very very nice, thx for blog! (:
I wish you all the best.

We bought our very first home in The Woodlands in 1993. When we left in 1995, the mall was brand new, and only one restaurant was on the now famous riverwalk area. I can't believe how much it has changed! It was a great area when we lived there, but now it seems you don't even have to drive into Houston to have fun! I enjoyed really enjoyed seeing these pics!
Love the shot of your son with the one eyebrow raised. Mine has the same look down and my daughter tries and tries to do it and just can't. Y'all look like you genuinely like each other!
Loved following along on snapchat! We are so close to this resort and I have thought about going so many times. Nothing makes me happier than a lazy river on a weekend away. About to look back through your travel weekends…last year you went somewhere similar in the Dallas area..was thinking a Westin or Wyndham property…looking for somewhere on our way to Missouri to pit stop for 36 hours.
Looks like a fun weekend! My son and daughter-in-law lived in the Woodlands for a couple years. It is so beautiful there! My daughter and I are going to a concert at the Cynthia Woods Pavilion in August. Looking forward to it. Oh and I'm very envious that you got to see Journey there!
