Winter Brights | Stripes & Puffer Vest

Today we’re continuing the {5 Ways} series around wearing Winter Brights, and this outfit is packing a fun punch! (See Day 1 of pink and navy here, and yesterday’s pink and red here.) This combo is speaking my preppy love language, but the boots give it a little edge, and the bling a touch of sparkle.

Puffer Vest | Gingham Shirt | Striped Sweater | Jeans | Necklace
Sunglasses | Hoop Earrings | Bracelet | Similar Crossbody Bag | Boots

I love piling on the layers for added pattern and color, but also so I canĀ skip the heavy coat (most days anyway)! It’s the little touches like combining stripes and gingham, and the addition of fun accessories, that take this casual outfit to the next level. It’s easy to throw together, and comfy to wear, yet so effortlessly stylish. (Rule of Three in the houuuuuuuse!)

I’ve worn these boots almost daily since finding them…the block-heel provides so much stability and support, and they’re as comfy as a flat boot. Plus, I adore the cognac shade, and you can’t beat the price!

Fit Tip: The boots ran a little snug for me, so I sized up half-size.Ā

Puffer vests are a great way for adding warmth and color, but not a lot of bulk…see more styles with them here, here, here, and here. Wow, clearly I’m a fan of the puffer. How about you? Do you like all the layers, or do you prefer to keep your outfits minimal?

I’ve yet to find it online!! It’s by Sole Society, and is called the Corbin ‘Camera’ Bag. I’ll keep looking and hopefully it pops up. Such a great size and shape, and under $60! xo

My fave so far! You are simply darling! How about a post on how to wear jeans with booties. I feel like every time I try, I always look like I’m cutting off the length of my leg. 😐

Thanks, friend!! There are a couple of things I look for when pairing jeans with booties:
      1) make sure a peek of skin shows at the ankle (so messy-roll your jean if necessary)
      2) choose booties that hit you on the thinnest parts of your leg/ankle

It’s for these reasons I love these low-ankle booties so much (http://bit.ly/2feMN21), and these, too, because the v allows skin to show, and creates a longer line (http://bit.ly/2iYEERv). Today’s booties are taller, but still work for me because they dip down in the front. Plus, they are slim around the ankle and don’t create bulk. I hope this helps!! xo

Hi there – love this look! Been stalking the J.Crew puffer vests all season and think I am (finally) ready to get out the old credit card and make the purchase. Do you find they run true-to-size? Or do you size up to plan extra room for layering?

They’re on such great sales right now!! I wear the vests from Factory, and find they actually run a little big. I sized down to an XXS, but I think my regular size would be okay, too. I don’t wear mine zipped though, so I’m okay if it’s fairly fitted. xo

Can you do a tutorial on rolling jeans for a variety of types of ankle boots? I pull up your pictures all the time to compare, and never get it right like you do! thank you!!!

That’s funny you ask, because I’ve been toying with the idea of a post that shares how I roll, cuff, tuck, etc! My only trick is to not overthink it…I actually just kind of let it do what it wants to do, and the messier the better! I don’t worry with symmetry or evenness, I just cuff and roll enough to show a peek of ankle. xo

How is it that your able to pull off the layer look? Must be your lean upper body frame. You even make the untucked look work! I salute you! I love the look but because of my no waist factor and boyish shape (i have no hips), layers don’t work for me. Dressing for body type is critical. Super cute Cass!

Agreed on dressing for body type, and that’s great that you know your shape! But you could totally pull of layers like these…especially with a really fitted jean to balance out the fullness on top. xo

Such a cute look!! What size are you wearing in the sweater & vest? We typically wear the same size and I think I need to get these! 😊

Thanks Heather! I’m wearing an XS in the sweater, and sized down to an XXS in the vest. But I think my usual size in the vest would be fine, too! xo

Soooo perfect! I love your style! Quick question…how do you keep your shoes so clean? You stated you have been wearing your boots constantly, but they look brand new! I even noticed the white tag at the the bottom didn’t look dirty! I am so envious! How do you do it? Mine are a mess after very little wear! Love your looks as alwaysā¤šŸŽ‰ā

We don’t really have inclement weather here, so I’m usually only wearing them on sidewalks and places like the grocery store! šŸ˜‰ So not a lot of dirt, etc. If it’s raining or muddy out, I wear my rainboots. I’ve only had these boots about two weeks though (I couldn’t resist the $54 sale price!), so I haven’t had much time to dirty them up! xo
