Happy Tuesday from Athens, friends! We’re here for a short day and night, and then it’s on to Santorini tomorrow! This is the kids longest flight and biggest time change to date, so fingers crossed they rally enough to see some of Athens this afternoon.
We’ve talked a lot about the individual pieces of the Summer of Color Collection, along with fun styling ideas…but inquiring minds what to know what Mama Sugarplum thinks!! Which pieces she’ll wear, how she’ll wear them, along with best sizing for each.
It didn’t take much to sweet talk her into trying them on, she adores the entire Collection!
Sidenote: I’m 5’4″ and 120-ish pounds, and usually wear a 0/XS. Mama Sugarplum is 5’1″ with an hourglass figure, and usually wears an XS/2p.
Let’s start with the Ibiza One Shoulder Top! Mama SP isn’t much for full off-the-shoulder, or strapless, but is completely on-board for a one-shoulder! It leaves you mostly covered, with just enough sass. The ruffle also provides some coverage across the chest, and the soft elastic stays firmly in place.
She also likes the hip length for wearing untucked with jeans, or tucked into trousers and skirts. The fabric is lightweight and breezy…the perfect material for a hot summer!
Fit Tip: We’re both wearing regular XS
The Malta Square Neck Tee is a Top 3 for her…she ordered it in three colors! Isn’t the blue stripe so stunning on her? It’s a soft, lightweight cotton with a flutter sleeve that gives some upper-arm coverage. It’s also completely bra-friendly, and has a longer, aline shape so she can wear it out (and cover the bum), or tie it at the hip.
Fit Tip: We’re both wearing XS, so I’d size down one.
Another one of her favorites, all three colors of the Sardinia Button Down Shirt now live in her closet!! Soft and lightweight, with a slight silky feel, she loves the prints, fabric and cut so much! The slightly oversized shape means she can wear it out like a tunic or tied at the waist. She also has the coordinating Milos Wide Leg Pant in this Blue Lagoon print, and loves them worn as a set.
Fit Tip: We’re both wearing XS, so I’d size down one. Petite sizing available if you prefer a more traditional shirt fit.
The Paros Halter Neck Henley Tank is one of my faves (and yours too…it was a top-seller!)…it’s just so perfect for summer! Like your favorite cotton tank, but with a kick. The halter neckline is super flattering, and the gathers add a feminine touch, while the henley button style keeps it a little sporty.
It’s also longer with a slight a-line shape, so Mama SP loves to wear it out with jeans, too (fully covers the bum).
Fit Tip: We’re both wearing XS, so I’d size down one. Petite sizing available if you prefer it shorter.
The Capril Tie Skirt is so feminine and flirty, but the knee length keeps it appropriate for church and office, too. Mama SP grabbed one for lunches with her girlfriends, and wears it with everything from the Ibiza One Shoulder Top to the Malta Square Neck Tee. It’s the same silky-soft fabric as most of the tops in the Collection, and fully-lined with pockets. The tie can be worn on the front, side or even in the back.
Fit Tip: The skirt is very fitted in the waist (and meant to be worn high), so she sized up one to a medium petite.
The Hydra Pull-On Linen Shorts are her favorite of the two, with the longer inseam and sturdier fabric. I only have one pair, so we couldn’t try them on side-by-side, but you can see how they compare to the Menorca Paper Bag Shorts.
She dresses them up a bit with the Sardinia Button Down Shirt, or pairs them with the Paros Halter Neck Henley Tank or Malta Square Neck Tee. The crisp white is a fresh compliment to any of the patterns and colors in the Collection.
Fit Tip: She prefers a small, so they’re true to size.
The Menorca Paper Bag Shorts are a pull-on style with elastic waist and removable tie belt. They’re a touch short for her comfort zone, but she makes it work by removing the tie and pulling them lower on her waist. #clever I like them worn high, and appreciate the fuller leg!
Fit Tip: I’m in an XS and she’s a small, so true to size.
More often than not, Mom prefers to keep her legs covered, but the Texas heat doesn’t make that easy! She adores the Milos Paper Bag Pool Pant because they’re light as air, but give her the coverage she loves. They’re a pull-on style with elastic waist and removable belt. They sit high on the waist (so flattering!) and have a wide, flowy leg. She pairs them with a same pattern top, or solids.
Fit Tip: I’m in an XS, she prefers a small petite (she’s wearing a regular in these pics, but they’re a tad long).
The Mykonos Racerback Romper is one of my faves, and we both adore the patterns! Mom prefers to tie the waist lower for a longer inseam, and adds a jean jacket for a little more coverage on top. She couldn’t look cuter in this combo, don’t you agree!?
Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS and Mom a small.
We both agree the Sicily Embroidered Racerback Dress feels like pajamas, and is the perfect day dress! The jersey knit is insanely soft, and a great medium weight, and falls perfectly to the knee without clinging. I love the exposed racerback (the embroidery is stunning!!), but mom feels better with a jean jacket.
We’ll both wear it with sandals, wedges or even sneakers.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS and mom a small, so true to size. Petite sizing available if you want it a little shorter.
And finally, the top-seller and our personal favorite too…the Cavallo Ruffle Bow Dress!! It’s absolutely stunning in person…the tall ruffle neck and adjustable bow in the back, and all the amazing colors and prints. It’s fully-lined, and even has pockets! Mom has the black and Caribbean Sea (the most gorgeous bright blue!).
The swing shape is forgiving, and easily dresses up for down with sandals, wedges, or heels. I wore it to graduation last weekend, and mom’s already worn it to a wedding!
Fit Tip: We’re both wearing XS, but petite sizing available if you prefer it shorter.
Here’s a little real-life peek of blogging during the Summer!! Always a photobomber! The teen is her first grandchild, and the two have a really special bond…he adores her like no other!
And because she’s so gorgeous, and I love these photos so much, here’s Mama Sugarplum fully styled in her favorite Summer of Style pieces!
She’s so stunning, right?! I’ve got all my fingers and toes crossed I age as beautifully and gracefully as her! And if possible, she’s even more beautiful on the inside, and is the best friend. I’m so grateful she’s able to be part of these Collections, and love that so many of you appreciate her, too!
Okay, I hope this post has been helpful! You can find more sizing info and all the undergarment recommendations in this post, and more mix-and-match inspiration here. And stay tuned for the Naxos Embroidered Tank…it’s coming very soon!!
