How was your weekend, friends? We had a crazy storm blow through Friday night, setting off all the storm sirens and dumping golf ball-sized hail. Can I tell you how loud large hail is when hurtling towards your house?! It was enough to send us cowering to the pantry!
Welcome to Spring in Texas! Even though it doesn’t feel much like Spring right now, we’ve had a few rogue warm days, making the transition season a little tricky.
I use a simple formula for dressing during transitional seasons…I cover either my arms or my legs. #thatsit #toldyouitwassimple By only exposing one or the other, I don’t get too chilly, nor do I look overly-bundled. Well, most days anyway. Texas is temperamental, so some days all bets are off.
To illustrate my point, I’m sharing a full week of style inspiration in a new Five Ways series, this one focused on Transitioning to Spring. And today’s post is a double-whammy because I’m sharing some new Spring makeup finds, too!
Peplum Bow Top | White Ankle Jeans | Wedges | Similar Earrings | Sunglasses | Clutch | Thumb Ring
We’ll kick this Five Ways week off with the cutest of peplum tops, and my go-to white jeans. I reach for white jeans year-round, but they are in heavy rotation during Spring. (Yes, you absolutely can wear them after Labor Day, and before Memorial Day, regardless of what your mom/neighbor/hair dresser says.) Everything just looks so fresh and crisp paired with white!
Fit Tip: These have been my faves for a few years…they’re thick with just enough stretch, with opaque fabric, hidden pockets, and comfy mid-rise. I size down to a 25.
I usually opt for light and neutral shoes with white jeans to help elongate the leg, and these are the absolute best wedges! They give great height, but also comfy to walk in all day. They come in a slew of colors, but this tan goes with literally everything.

This top is a crisp cotton poplin with the cutest peplum flare, and waist-defining bow.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a regular XS, but petite sizing is available, too.
Now let’s talk beauty for a second…I shared my everyday makeup routine recently, but had some requests for a lighter formula foundation for the warmer months ahead. Y’all know I adore this CC Cream + SPF, but some of you prefer to go without, or use something with a little less coverage.
If you go without, you still need a daily sunscreen, and this one is my favorite. It goes on light and matte, and acts as a great primer, in addition to SPF 40.
If you like a little coverage, with a lighter formula, I just discovered this face fabric, and have to agree with the reviews that it’s basically amazing! It has a moussey texture, but as you apply to your skin, it becomes velvety powder. I apply with my fingers (over the SPF primer), and even though it’s insanely light, it manages to create a smooth, even complexion…and controls shine all day!

Mascara | Lip Plumper | Lipstick | SPF Primer
Another fun new makeup discovery (can you tell I got a little side-tracked at the Nordstrom beauty counter recently?!) is this lip maximizer gloss! The formula is enriched with collagen, and contains a blend of hyaluronic acid, and marine-based fillers that leave lips instantly smooth, moisturized and plump looking.
I apply it to my bare lips, and then layer my lipstick over the top for a punch of color and shine. The first time I tried it, I felt a slight tingle, but nothing uncomfortable. My lips are usually on the dry side, but that’s completely cleared since I started using this gloss regularly. I also apply it over my lipstick later in the day to refresh the color.

Even though my everyday makeup routine is a speedy five minutes, as the days get warmer I tend to go even lighter with just SPF primer, face fabric, mascara, and lipstick. What changes do you make to your makeup routine for Spring? Have you discovered a new product I need to try?
Has Spring sprung in your area, or are you still full-blown Winter? Either way, I hope this week’s Five Ways inspires some new ideas for your wardrobe! Have a joyful, Monday, lovebugs!

Ooh, seems like spring is off to a rough start where you are! Hail, that’s crazy! The weather where I live has been super unstable too – temperatures are going up and down 10ºC by the week! ❄️
The yellow clutch is super cute! ❤️

I ordered the primer, because I needed a primer and figured the spf was a great addition, but does the dime sized amount they recommend really provide the full spf coverage? I figured Supergoop would respond to your inquiries about the spf coverage being a professional blogger extraordinaire and all. 😉
I find that it’s plenty of product to fully cover my face!!
Yessssssss! That clutch, those wedges, the beauty…yesssss!
This outfit is so amazing! I love the combination of the blue and yellow!
You are a vision! Sky blue pretty!! I keep thanking God for you because you inspire me to put my best face and faith forward, looking up instead of feeling down. The peplum bow top is heavenly (no small or medium sizes left but perhaps they will restock)? Thank you for the make-up tips because they urge your readers to achieve youth and vitality–attainable with a love-filled heart like yours.
WOOOOOWWWWWWWW, that is the nicest comment ever, Sevahn, thank you so very much! I’m thrilled you find joy and inspiration here, that is my goal with every post!! xoxoxo
Cassie,
As always you look beautiful! You were trying on dress in your insta stories last week. I can’t find it now. It was a mid length navy and floral dress. It was so pretty. Being an older gal mid and maxi work best for me. I tried Nordstrom, but could not find it. Would you share where you were trying on that dress?
Thanks!
Judy
Yes ma’am…it’s all linked in last week’s Dressing Room Diaries post! https://hisugarplum.com/dressing-room-diaries-30/
I am hopelessly devoted to the glowy CC cream, even on the weekends; I just use a lighter hand. I really want to try the Supergoop ‘Unseen.’ I currently use their Everyday Face Serum, but for some reason lately, the scent of it kind of makes me gag! #insertdisturbingvisualhere
Ewwww, that’s no good!!! I like the smell of their products, so light and not ‘suncreeny’
Hi Cassie, A bit off topic, but yesterday in your instastories you shared the Bobbi Brown sale. I don’t order from my phone, so tried to go to instagram on my computer to link so you would get credit. Could not figure out how, so I went to your blog trying to find somewhere you had linked to bobbibrowncosmetics.com. I could not. So, thank you for the tip and I ordered 3 mascaras & an eye shadow, but you did not get credit for the sale. 🙁 If I can rectify this, let me know. You do the work, you deserve the credit! I have never ordered from them before, only because of your tip.
You are too sweet…don’t even worry about it! I just hope you love the products as much as I do!! The Friends and Family sale is a good one!! here’s the link in case you need something else 😉 http://bit.ly/2JwFT8z
Thank you! I’ll know where to find it next time 😉
I love, love, love your blog! Just wanted to say that the pics today in the grass with the makeup are SO. Cute!
Thank you, Sue!! Mary is amazing, and so fun to work with!!
What is that great nail color?
