I certainly don’t consider myself any sort of beauty expert. In fact, I don’t recall ever being taught how to apply makeup, which is funny because Mama Sugarplum never leaves home without her full face on! And she’s really great at applying it. She’s probably reading this thinking, ‘Don’t say that, I taught you how to wear makeup!!!’ Sorry Mom, but I don’t remember!
I love makeup and products, I’m just really basic and simple about what I use, and how I apply it. The funny thing is, I’ve actually learned some tricks from Little Miss, who is a You Tube makeup tutorial junkie, as well as glam squads I’ve had the opportunity to work with in recent years.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve started using fewer products around my eyes (it tends to cake up and accent wrinkles), and added more illuminating products to my face. I’m all about getting that youthful glow! My everyday routine is simple, with just a handful of products, and takes under five minutes. Because who has time for more than that?!
These are the products I swear by, and have been using for awhile. You’ll notice they are mostly creamy formulas, since adding more moisture is important for ‘maturing’ skin. (Stay tuned for the full demonstration video towards the end of the post!)
one // it Cosmetics CC Cream Illumination in ‘Medium’ Not only does this give the right amount of coverage for everyday, it’s fail-proof application and has 50 SPF. I love the Illuminating formula for more glow, but it’s also available in normal. I use a flat brush to first dab the product all over my face, then a circular motion for an airbrush effect. For lighter coverage, I love the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in ‘Alaska.’
two // Nars Blush in ‘Amour’ This color gives me the perfect, natural flush, and is super pigmented so you don’t need much (and it lasts forever!). Using an angled brush, I apply to the apples of my cheeks and sweep up towards my hairline.
three // Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in ‘Medium’ I use this sparingly and not everyday, since I try to avoid extra products under my eyes. It’s creamy so it doesn’t make the skin under my eyes look crepey like so many others do, but covers dark circles and blemishes.
four // Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color in ‘Punch’ The formula is so creamy and highly-pigmented, and has great staying power. I also love the Nars Satin Lip Pencils.
five // Charlotte Tilbury Creamy Shadow in ‘Jean’ This eyeshadow is the newest in my makeup arsenal, and I’m so excited to have finally found a great, neutral shadow for everyday that brightens. It goes on creamy with your finger or brush, but dries like a powder and never creases. The pigment is really concentrated, too, so it takes very little. I’ve had mine for over a month and haven’t even made a dent in the little pot. It makes a great base, too, if you like to create a more dramatic eye.
six // Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil in ‘Medium Brown’ I raved about my obsession with eyebrows and their importance for taking years off your face in this post. I literally never skip this step!! I recently switched to this thicker pencil for more coverage, and found it lasts longer than the thinner one, and I like the attached spoolie for blending.
seven // Laura Geller Bronzer in ‘Tahitian Glow’ Again with the glow, but this bronzer adds natural color and glow to my face. Using a fluffy, tapered brush, I apply it to the hollows of my cheeks, along the jaw bone and hairline for a contouring effect. I also love Bobbi Brown Shimmering Brick.
eight // Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara in ‘Black’ Y’all know I’m obsessed with this mascara…read all about my love affair in this post.
nine // Brushes I upgraded to these brushes a year ago, and can’t believe the difference they make for application! And they don’t shed! I use this flat brush for foundation, this angled for blush, this big one to blend, and this tapered for bronzer.

To show how quick and simple it is, I made this short demonstration video to share the entire makeup routine from start to finish!! Thanks to Mr. SP for creating the original music for me! (If you’re reading this post in an email or feeder, click here for the video.)
Did you happen to notice my longer, fuller lashes?! I’m completely obsessed with the NeuLash Lash Enhancing Serum, and have been singing its praises to all my girlfriends. I applied it to the base of my lashes every night for about a month, and then suddenly my lashes were seriously thicker, and so long I’ve had to trim them a few times!
Now I just use it every few nights to maintain, and after several months, I’m still on the same tube. I hear great things about the Rodan & Fields lash enhancer (I don’t have any experience with it), but I like that I’m able to order this one on my own from Nordstrom without going through anyone.
It’s on the pricey side, but definitely works…and not damaging to your lashes like extensions, or messy and complicated like glue-on lashes.
I hope you enjoyed this post, and maybe picked up a new product or tip! Do you use any of these products already? What’s in your everyday routine? Have you tried the NeuLash?! Also, if you ever have questions or concerns about products, you can always chat with a Nordstrom Beauty Stylist online for one-on-one help!

I’m the same when it comes to makeup. Minimal and simple is best! A quick 5 minute session is just about right 🙂

Yes, yes, YES!! I loved all of this!!!! I want to buy like three new products now.
What a great video demo! Loved the music to it, perfect.
If all is lined up on the bathroom sink, you really can do a good make-up job in 5 mins.
I can’t even go to the mailbox w/o make-up these days!
You use an eyeliner in your video, but it isn’t included in your product list.
I’m looking for that too. Great post, Cassie. I’ll be buying most of these products!!
I totally forgot to include it!! It’s this one: http://bit.ly/2CHcVy1
Thanks!
Love this post/video! So helpful! I am much more of a visual learner so it was so great to actually see you apply the stuff! I have learned that I need better brushes, I have been using the same ones for years and they are nothing like the ones you have. Particularly for applying your cc cream, I use a similar product and apply it with my hands, which I hate. The flat brush is a genius solution! Thank you for helping me get dressed every day AND apply my makeup! Oh ya, AND curl my hair! You are my glam squad! 😘
Yay! I’m so happy you liked it!! And yes, the flat brush is life changing for applying CC Cream or foundation! you’ll use less product and get a flawless finish!!
I am also a neuLash fan, but find it to be much cheaper to purchase on Amazon. ; )
Oh reeeeeeallllly?!?! I’ll have to look into that!!
I’ve found that the best eyebrow pencil I’ve ever used is a cheapy drug store one by NYX. Their micro brow pencil is the perfect dupe for the Anastasia and is only a few bucks. Honestly, I can’t tell the difference between the two (minus the dollar difference).
Also, as a 44 year old (ugh), I’ve been adding a bit of oil (Neogen truffle serum in oil drop) to my under eye area prior to putting on any makeup. It immediately hydrates and helps with that pesky crepe look that is the devil of all women our age and up. And I’m loving the Korean skincare items! They are sooo hydrating. I don’t know about you, but I’m also starting to get that cleavage wrinkle thing since I’m a side sleeper (I never noticed it myself until I got a facial and the lady said “do you sleep on your side? I see you’re starting to get wrinkled on your chest.” Gee, thanks lady.) So I’ve been adding oil/moisturizer to that area now. Ugh. Getting older is not for sissies. 🙂
That’s a great idea about adding oil! And thanks for the tip about the eyebrow pencil…I’ll check that one out!! Nope, aging and motherhood…not for sissies. 😉
Great video! I just ordered the foundation brush! Can you tell us about your eyeliner?
Oh yeah! I totally forgot to include that!! I’ve been using the same eyeliner for over a decade…not sure if it’s the best or all that long-lasting, but I like how it goes on, and love the charcoal color. http://bit.ly/2CHcVy1
I’m keep my routine very simple. Serum, face cream, foundation with SPF, mascara, and lipstick. I pay more attention to cleansing and creams before bed. In the morning there are places to go and things to do. Ha!
I love your videos! Keep them coming!
Yes!! Give me all the creams and serums!! Most days, I just wear blush, eyebrow pencil and mascara…but if I need to be a little more pulled together, I use this 5 minute routine!
Great video! Where do you get your makeup brushes? How often do you wash them and how do you wash them?
Most of my brushes are these: http://bit.ly/2CFWD8Z
They are fantastic!! I’ve had them for awhile and they’re like new, with no shedding! I usually wash them with warm water and gentle soap…but am really bad about doing it too often.
Thanks so much for the great post and video. I saw that you linked the IT brushes in your comments but linked a Sephora brush set that you bought recently and loved. Do you use both sets? If you had to have just a few brushes, which would you suggest?
I love the IT brushes…I use them almost exclusively! They never shed either!
Minimal is best for sure! I’m 31 so still fairly fine lines free but I know what you mean about products around the eyes. My personal issue is that I still have acne!!! Always triggered by hormones and mostly situated on my left cheek so I have to be careful with the highlights because it tends to make it “pop” even more. I’ve also notices that in recent years, I’ve gone from normal skin to dry skin in some spots of my face. So I’ve had to switch from a powder foundation to a cream one. I’m currently using a stick one (Anastasia) and it’s working pretty great. I’m definitely going to look up this lash serum thing (I’ve always had thin, sparse lashes and was never convinced by lash serums as I thought it was BS…….but if you rave about it that much……maybe I’ll try and see for myself).
Yes, it’s frustrating to keep up with constantly changing skin (thanks aging!!), but fortunately there are so many great products now! I use pretty much all creams on my face now, it needs all the moisture it can get! And as for the lash serum, you will be AMAZED!!!
Great post! But, PLEASE have your mom do her makeup routine in a tutorial for those of us of a certain age……would love to know what she uses! Janie
I’ll ask her if she’d be willing to share sometime!!
Love this video!! Thanks for sharing. I’m also curious as to what brushes you have 🙂
Thanks, Betsy!! I’m so glad you liked it!! I bit the bullet a few years ago and got really good makeup brushes…and it changed everything for me! I’ve had these for several years and they are still like new: http://bit.ly/2CFWD8Z
How did these become your favs? Did you try other products in each category that you didn’t like as well? What type of skin do you have? Thanks!
Obviously I haven’t tried everything on the market, so I can’t say these are the best…but they are the best I’ve found so far for me. I’ve tried several of each over the years, but not loved any as much as these. I’ve used each of them long enough to replace several times! I have combination skin that is a tad sensitive.
awesome.blog.thanks for sharing it.

Great video, however, with a gorgeous face like your, with or without makeup you will/are beautiful. Thanks for the tips, I need them. Noooow, I hope I can make my face look 1/4 as fab
Thank you so much, Ivory!!! I’m thrilled you like the video! xo
I love how the bronzer looks on you but because it literally has “frost” in its name, I’m afraid it’ll be too shimmery & will settle in lines. Does it? Is the cream eye shadow really shimmery? I’ve used Mac paint pots for years but would love to try this. I’m 50 so I’m all
about the dewy glow but gotta watch out for too much shimmer! 😂
There’s def shimmer, but I like the highlight and brightening it gives! They eye cream is shimmery as well (or at least the color I use), but not overly so!
Hi Cassie! Thank you for the video! So which is that really big a— brush that you blend with? 🙊
This one! http://bit.ly/2DZXmSY
Hi Cassie! I got the CC Cream due to your rave reviews but have been applying it with my fingers. I want to try using a brush like you do, but I have to ask – How do you keep your brushes clean? Do you wash it everyday? With soap or just water? Deep clean occasionally? I would love to hear your methods!!
I don’t wash them near as often as I should, but when I do, I just use mild soap and warm water, then let them air dry.
No habia regresado tu sitio web por un tiempo, porque me pareció que era pesado, pero los últimos posts son de buena calidad, así que supongo que voy a añadirte a mi lista de sitios web cotidiana. Te lo mereces amigo. 🙂
Saludos
Do you highlight your eyes above the eyeshadow you showed here? LOVE your routine & you are just beautiful!!! It looks light a lighter color above or is it just CC Cream? Would love to know & maybe it’ll help me too!!! Thanks so much for your help!!
Hi Lisa! Yes, I will usually put a swipe of bright shadow or highlighter on my brow bone…it opens the eye and defines the brow a bit more!
I’ve been using revitalash for eyelash growth for several years and it really works. Like magic! It takes about a month to see results. I always had long lashes until menopause, this product fixed that problem. Now if only I could fix the rest!
