Happy Monday, friends! How was your weekend? After several days of no water, we were finally able to have it restored to one bathroom in our house! I may not be able to do laundry or run the dishwasher, but I’ll take a hot shower and flushing toilet over cooking any day!
After boiling snow just to flush the toilet, I told Mr. SP he’s never allowed to call me high maintenance again, ha!
We have several repairs before the rest of our water can be restored, but plumbers are working overtime just to get people in a more livable space. We feel fortunate that our damage wasn’t worse, and this inconvenience feels like nothing compared to what many are experiencing.

We live in the northeast where winter cold and snow is our norm, and we love it. When we close up our cottage for the winter, we first turn off the main water supply, then we drain the lines inside. It only takes minutes. Never had a problem, and it goes down to minus 20 or more every winter. Might be something to try in the future when you get a forecast for weather that you just experienced. With all the climate changes we will be experiencing in the future, I’m afraid parts of the country will see this again and again. Hope this helps.

The worst to go is the AC/furnace, refrigerator after a week, then the washing machine, (know where your best laundry-mat is located), the dishwasher can wait, everyone can wash their own dishes. In that order. And the ingenious ideas every one is coming up with. Especially the toilet made w/a 5 gallon bucket and trash bags- ingenious! Ok, I’ll stop at that one! xo.
