Hi Sugarplum!

Something Happened on the Way to Babygirl’s Room

March 14, 2011

Hello, hello! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and aren’t suffering too much from the loss of an hour! I had big intentions for my weekend, but something happened to derail them.

So I had a few hours that weren’t dedicated to a soccer game, birthday parties, piano lesson, laundry, wondering who the Bachelor would choose and trying to finish Season 2 of Dexter. I wandered towards Babygirl’s Room to see what project awaited me, and passed by the Linen Closet in the process. Or the strange corner cabinet that doubles as the Linen Closet/Hoard of All Random Things. For some reason, I felt the urge to just peek inside.

Two minutes later I had this:

Actually I had about twice this much stuff pulled out, it just didn’t fit in a single picture. What is all that and why is it in the Linen Closet?! And why did I chose this weekend to clean it out?!? That’s the problem, I didn’t make the choice, it just happened.

Now that Babygirl has a big bed too, there are five beds in my house, all different sizes, and the mounds of sheets were just too ridiculous to navigate. With projects for Babygirl’s Room forgotten, my true anal organizational nature kicked in, and thirty minutes later I had pretty, glorious piles!

I simply wrapped each set of sheets in string and tied a tag differentiating their sizes. Purging is one of my favorite activities, so I had a party tossing all the unused items in a bag for donation. After finding proper places for everything, my Linen Closet looked like this:

Does a view like this bring you as much satisfaction as it does me? I’m feeling a little vulnerable exposing my OCD side to you, not to mention the skeletons inside of our closets! But I was fairly proud of myself for resisting the urge to paint the shelves or doors or something, anything!!!

And these urges typically don’t die quickly, so I went ahead and cleaned up the cabinet in the Master Bathroom.

It’s quite possible I’ve scared a few of you away with my compulsion (one time it struck and I ended up with a pink Coat Closet), but for those of you who share my illness, let’s gaze upon some deliciously organized Linen Closets!

Maybe it’s because Spring is in the air, but I’m feeling the urge to simplify and organize! Please tell me you can relate?!

Spring revives that "wannabe" organized, left brained closet cleaner in me too, but the right brained messie in me postpones it as long as possible. My mom tucks the top sheet and pillow cases inside the fitted sheet to keep her closets tidy, but your idea with the string and tag looks a lot more fun and crafty!

Those projects are best done on a whim, anyway! If you're like me and try to plan a closet-cleaning session, then you procrastinate for a long time. You have to save it for when the mood strikes! Looks great, by the way!

Oh my gosh I am sending this post to my mom right now! We just talked over the weekend about how she wants to organize her sheets and label them with the various sizes… great idea! 🙂 Happy Monday, love.

I can totally relate! I am all about organizing right now…I always have been, but sometimes I slip. My linen closet is on my list of things to tackle this week, so thanks for the kick in the butt! 🙂

I can totally relate! Closets look great!

However, Dexter marathons can easily derail anything else in my life that needs to get done.

Oh my gosh, you would have a field day at my house. I do have that obsessive organization thing, but I just let things pile up until I get to my breaking point. I'm not there yet, so everything is kind of hideous! Will you come to my house next…or maybe after baby girl's room is done. 🙂

I always get distracted when on my way to clean something or organize something. The decorating ADD even hits while in the middle of the actual projoect. WHich is probably how I tend to end up with 18 different things going at the same time. And a bigger mess than what I started with.

We have 4 beds in our house, 3 different sizes. Each room has their spare sheets in a plastic tub that fits under their bed. It works for us & saves closet space.

Well organized space are like xanax to me! We will be moving in a couple of months and I am purging and organizing all the time!

I love the pictures you posted. I dream of having closets that look like the ones in these pictures.

Ha! I decided to scrub the frig from head to toe, under and behind. Not sure what possessed me to do it right at that moment, as we'd only been home from the gym for a short time and my oldest had just walked in the door from Spring Break. But, when it hits, it hits! ROFL At least we can keep each other company in the padded cell!!

Organizing sheets is a breeze if when you fold them, you put the whole set into one of the pillowcases. Then you have all these cute little "pillows" that hold the whole set. Makes it simple and organized.

In my world OCD stands for "Organized, cute, and delightful." Your closet is all those things. 🙂

I can COMPLETELY realate. I just did this with our linen closet, and the guest bedroom closet is next. I love the satisfied feeling I get every time I open the door now (an it helps when things aren't spilling out on top of me!). Love the pictures!

I am fairly certain that you and I must be related in some strange way. Stuff like this happens to me all the time and I, too, have little purging parties. If I'm feeling a little overwhelmed, nothing helps like throwing unused stuff into the good ol' Donation Box.

I can definitely relate!! I tend to live in a kinda messy space since I'm never here for more than 2 week stretches, but every so often I get the urge to clean. And when I clean, I clean it right haha No shoving stuff under the bed 😛

This morning I returned from Trader Joe's, put away the groceries, and then decided on a whim to clean out the condiments section of the frig. Felt good to purge but ewwww, gross! So I can relate too but in a totally different area (linens would have been much lower on the ick factor…)

This is hilarious! I do the same thing all the time and since my last son was born I have had less time to do it but still will spontaneously drag everything out and reorganize it. It drives my husband nuts but I can really relate!

Ahhh, organizing- be still my heart! Such a cute idea to bundle up the sheets that way. Would you believe besides James (2) crib sheets, we have only (3) sheet sets for our bed?! p.s. I think Dexter is a violent, deranged, eerie, disturbing show and Jimmy has been watching marathons for about a week getting caught up on the first two seasons (just finished season 2 last night) and now I'm getting hooked! Lila was crazeballs!
