Happy almost-Friday, friends! I’m headed to LA this morning for some fun Gibson x Hi Sugarplum business, so you’re getting my Friday post a day early. We’re working hard on our next Collection (yep…a whole new Collection!!!), and today is all about fabrics, prints, and silhouettes. I have so many ideas, and am so excited to see how the talented Gibson design team translates them. Follow along on my Instagram Stories for peeks behind the scenes at what’s coming next!
Tomorrow I’m joining up with the wizard Suzie Moldovan and shooting the new prints and colors for the first round of Resort Collection re-orders! You know I’ll be sharing them here on the blog, so look for those in a few weeks. (Email subscribers get news first, so make sure you’re signed up here!)
Today I’m excited to share snapshots from our time at one of our favorite places on Earth…the Belmond Maroma Resort! We discovered this gem last year (see my posts here & here), and counted down the days all year until we could return again. It’s become an escape of sorts for us…the chance to unplug, reconnect, and reflect on the previous year. We hope to make it an annual tradition, because there’s really no place like it.
From the moment we enter the palm-lined drive, I feel my entire body relax and exhale. They greet you with a margarita, and within minutes I’m in a swimsuit with my toes in the sand. Between the friendly staff, peaceful jungle-meets-beach setting, morning hot chocolate delivery, and huge breakfast (all included in the room rate!), I savor every second I’m here.
Granted it’s a splurge, but we watch for sales, travel during slower season, and book the basic rooms. (I shared ways we save while we’re here in this post.) As returning guests, we lucked out with a beach view upgrade this visit, and I think we spent as much time sitting on our patio as we did the beach!
Since I’ve already shared the details of the property here, today is snapshots from our recent stay, along with what I packed and wore. It’s a very casual, laidback atmosphere…the only requirement is a shirt in the restaurant! (Shoes optional!) Let’s start with my travel style…comfy and layered, perfect for chilly morning in Dallas, and warm afternoon in Mexico!
The rest of the time I rotated between swimsuits, cut-offs, and a few dresses. Most of my swimsuits are under $30, or 30% off!!
What to Pack for a Beach Trip
- T-shirts & festive tops
- Shorts or cut-offs
- Swimsuits (the more the merrier!)
- Swim cover-up (I wore this dress a lot)
- Large hat & sunglasses
- Flip-flops & flat sandals
- Beach tote bag
I brought more than I needed, but Resort wear is so fun, how could I not! #amIright?! Each outfit is linked under the pic, with sizing included, and you’ll see how I repeated the key pieces.
This is the face of someone who just slept 11 hours! Of course I brought my earbuds and sleep mask I told you about in yesterday’s Sugarplum Top Five.
The hardest decisions at Belmond Maroma Resort are which path to take to breakfast…the beach or the jungle, and where to spend the day…the beach or one of the pools! Well, and I guess if you want beef or chicken nachos in the afternoon. Because it’s never a question if you want guacamole! #amIright?!
Who knew the simple act of sitting on a patio with a steaming hot pitcher of hot chocolate could bring so much joy?! Seriously one of my favorite things about this Resort!
I shared my ‘tutorial’ on my Instagram Stories for looking stylish while on vacation…did you see it? It’s simple…messy bun, hat, hoop earrings, bright lips, sunglasses and a cute top! You’d never know what I actually look like under this vacation disguise!
Until next time, my beloved Belmond Maroma Resort. And while this post is in no way sponsored, the lovely people at the Belmond Maroma are so grateful for our loyalty (and all the HSP readers who’ve visited since reading about it here!), they’re offering a free three-course dinner for all reservations! (On top of the free welcome cocktail, morning coffee/hot chocolate service, and full breakfast!)
Simply email reservations, and mention you found them on Hi Sugarplum for the dinner to be added to your stay!
Do you have a place that’s special to you? I’d love to hear, and maybe add it to our bucket list! Obviously I’m passionate about this property, so feel free to leave any questions in the comments!
