Hi Sugarplum!

Parade of New Rugs

February 26, 2013

Now don’t get too excited…this isn’t the kind of parade that involves marching bands and flying candy. But you do get to watch the procession from the comfort of your chair, and not perched on the street curb. If you recall, one of my 2013 Home Goals was to add more color to the Entrance Hall. Well, thanks to a Joss & Main impulse buy, we have color!

Hi Sugarplum | Rug Updates

The old rug was getting a little worn, but truthfully, with zebra in the Family Room, too, it was just too Madagascar around here for my taste. The Entrance Hall opens to the Living and Dining rooms, both of which have (or will have in the case of the Dining Room) red accents….so I thought a punchy red print would help to unify the three spaces.

Hi Sugarplum | Rug Updates

I wish the rug were a little larger, but $65 for this quality…I’ll shut my pie-hole.

Here’s the Before & After for your evaluation…

The larger plant makes a nice difference too…love the green! Can you believe it’s the same Money Tree from this post? You can’t kill those suckers!

While poorly photographing the Entrance Hall, I realized that I’d accidentally replaced several of the rugs in our house over the last few months…so thought I’d parade them past you.

I loved the colorful Urban Outfitters rug we had, and I still get emails about it all the time, but honestly, it looked like faded-out poo within a month. It must have been a common defect, because they discontinued it from their site almost immediately after I bought it. I stumbled across this one from Home Goods and accidentally brought it home.

Hi Sugarplum | Rug Updates

I love how the color plays off the glass backsplash, and the woven jute is great texture against the slick cabinets.

Kids + Bathrooms = Hot Mess…so their old rug had definitely seen better days. This little sisal number accidentally fell in my cart at Target. That’s not uncommon for Target though. But for $7, it was a risk I was willing to take.

Then last month, I somehow found myself at Kohls again. I swear I never go in that store, but every time I do, I’m shocked by something cool. I spotted these cotton/jute rugs, on sale for $12! I couldn’t not get them, right? That would have been the accident. And it’s not like we’d had our old bath mats since we got married. Nooooo, who would keep white bath mats for 14 years?!?#wedid

Hi Sugarplum | Rug Updates

Our Master Bathroom got a big dose of style for $24!

Hi Sugarplum | Rug Updates

So what accidentally found it’s way to your house recently? What do you think about our inexpensive rug updates?! Thanks for the kind words about Haven yesterday, I’m excited to learn some of you are going, too! Slumber party!

That is an incredible price! I paid $60.00 for one that size from Walmart so I'll definitely have to check this company out for sure! Love the red splash of color.

love the foyer rug and the chevrons! i need to buy a $$ tree, or 2, as long as you can't kill them. as i headed to the latest ibb design warehouse sale a few months ago, i proclaimed to hubby, i'm just going to look, i'm not gonna buy anything. as the deliverymen brought in the sofa and rug, i proclaimed, how could i NOT buy them? (you MUST join me next time.)

Our home has a lot of tile, and we are in desperate need of some rugs to help pull everything together. I'll have to take a double look at Joss & Main, I love this bright one you found!

I am sad to say we don't have one area rug in our whole house. I feel a little retain therapy is in order after that admission.

The red rug looks like it's always been there! love all the cute rugs you found, versatile and easy to switch around if you get tired. Only thing I added was a DIY monogram pillow I recently made for our living room. 😉

Love your blog and your ideas. I have to admit I don't like the red rug in the foyer. It looks too small for the space. The other rug upgrades are nice.

That was a great parade! Those rugs are all fabulous, especially the one in your entryway. Kohl's has been shocking me lately too. I'm loving some of the pillows they have in there lately.

Loving the Kohl's tip on the rugs! Looks like Nate Berkus rugs from Targ.

Also wanted to share that we got a fiddle leaf fig-terrified and excited all at the same time. Oh, and we named her, too. http://lifelovelarson.blogspot.com/2013/02/meet-our-new-fiddle-leaf-fig.html

I accidentally brought home new curtain panels from World Market for my girls' room, and now I need to sell their custom ones. Seems like a weird trade, but somehow I'm good with it. Just posted the new curtain-based deign on my blog today!

Love them all but especially the new red rug in the foyer…so much pop! So I have an off the wall question for you Mrs. Sugarplum :). How do you feel about your entrance having tile floor and the rest of the house being wood floor? We are about to replace our floors with wood flooring. We currently have carpet with tile in our entrance. My mind was made up to replace all the flooring with wood. Someone suggested leaving the tile and just replacing the carpet but the answer has been no until now. After seeing your foyer tile meeting the wood floors it looks great! I would love your opinion please and thank you.

    • hisugarplum says: February 28, 2013 at 2:43 pm

Hi Patti! We put those wood floors in 7 years ago, right when we moved in, and before I really had any idea how I wanted my house to look. If given the option, I'd have the wood go through the Entrance Hall too, for more cohesiveness. But that would have involved ripping up tile, and we were already stretching things by adding wood floors, so we only did it in the rooms where we didn't want carpet.

have fun getting new floors!! Hope this helps!
