The Weekender | Packing for a Summer Staycation

Happiest of Fridays, friends! I hope your week went well, and you have lots of fun planned for the weekend ahead. Thank you so much for your kind words about our Kitchen Reveal! I know you have a lot of questions about the materials, what we did, etc…I’m already working on the Before & After Breakdown post, so stay tuned for that!

Our son recently turned 14 #sob and to my surprise, he requested a family staycation in lieu of a party. I was more than happy to oblige, especially since one of my very favorite hotels (and in my opinion, Dallas’ best kept secret) happens to be right up the road from us.

The Westin Stonebriar is like a secret hideaway in the middle of the north Dallas bustle…rolling hills and golf greens, huge lagoon-style pool with full-service bar and grill, and lush accomodations. We spent the weekend slurping back snow cones and burgers by the pool, playing ping-pong and bocce ball, and piling in a big bed to watch movies together. Basically, a blissful two days.

And by family staycation…I mean the whole family! Even Maggie was treated to a heavenly bed and treats!

Hi Sugarplum | Weekend Staycation

Even though it was just a weekender, I still wanted to pack smart, and be prepared for the different things we had planned. You know I’m a fan of packing light, and using a traditional carry-on sized rolling bag (see my tips here)…but even that is a little big for just a few days.

In the past, I’ve tossed everything in a large duffle bag…but upon arrival, everything is just that…tossed. Enter my newest traveling companion….the Baggallini Rolling Tote!

Hi Sugarplum | Weekend Staycation
Filled with three full zippered compartments, tons of mesh pockets, and even a pop-up handle for rolling, it is traveler’s dream. And trust me, I am not an easy sell when it comes to travel bags.

Hi Sugarplum | Weekend Staycation

{What I Packed}

Hi Sugarplum | Weekend Staycation
* 1 Wrap (worn as robe, light sweater & PJs)

Hi Sugarplum | Weekend Staycation

Everything folded up neatly in a single compartment, with room to spare, and my laptop, chargers and camera tucked in to the outside compartments.

Hi Sugarplum | Weekend Staycation

The handle extends all the way for rolling, or zips out-of-sight if you prefer to carry it as a tote. #puregenius

Hi Sugarplum | Weekend Staycation

{Where We Stayed}
Be sure to ask for early check-in & late check-out.
On the weekends, you could luck out with an almost 24-hour stay for just one night rate!
And fill your bags with their toiletries, they smell like heaven!
{Eat Nearby}
Just across the street with table side guacamole. Need I say more?
Up the freeway a bit, a great French bistro with delicious brunch
The weekend brunch buffet will leave you full for a week!

Hi Sugarplum | Weekend Staycation

It seems the older our kids get, the harder it is to carve out uninterrupted time with just our family…making these little weekends even more special. Excuse me while I ugly cry.

Hi Sugarplum | Weekend Staycation

  15. I love the Baggallini!! Mine is actually in need of replacing as it is maybe 4 years old and I travel weekly for work with it. I love it because I can do a 2 or 3 day trip with it, complete with clothes and a change of shoes, and still have room to put the laptop in to roll around instead of lugging it in my shoulder bag as you showed us. I get compliments on it's convenience almost everytime I board a plane with it all light and small and easy to get in the overhead. People are always shocked when I say, "Why yes, this is my only suitcase for the whole trip!" It's like a clown car, you can just keep stuffing it full and it somehow has space! Now I want that makeup bag you have, it seems handy too.

    We go to the Westin Savannah every year in Savannah, GA. I HIGHLY recommend it! They have a golf course, spa, workout facilities, gorgeous pool/hot tub/splash area that overlooks the waterway, and wonderful restaurants on site. It is just a hop, skip, and a jump from downtown Savannah. Just jump on a free water taxi and it takes you across to downtown with all the shopping and restaurants. So fun! My kids look forward to it every year and are SO sad when it's time to leave and go back home.

  130. I love that rolling tote. I never take carry on luggage because I'm terrified that I'm going to be THAT person who's trying (unsuccessfully) to stuff their luggage in the overhead compartment and everyone is staring. lol. This looks like the perfect size that even if I stuffed it, still would easily fit overhead. I love the charcoal. It's dark enough to not look dirty, but still feminine with the purple lining.
