{One Week Challenge} The Design Plans

Welcome back to Week 2 of the {One Room Challenge}. Thanks again to Linda for including me in this fun ride…I’m so excited about all the rooms, not to mention, love meeting the new readers that have found their way here!

We recently moved, so I had a whole house of rooms from which to choose for the ORC, but Mr. SP and I decided to put ourselves first this time (as opposed to last, like our previous home)…so I’m tackling our Master Bedroom!

Last week I showed you the Before shots and room dimensions…this week it’s all about the design plans. I tend to get a little carried away with color and pattern, so it’s helpful to see everything together. Not to mention, I’m an A+ procrastinator…which isn’t really conducive to the Challenge…so having the moodboard helps me focus.

I hope to create a secluded retreat…dare I say, a sexy room? #sorrymom
Not like seedy-motel sexy, there’s no coin slot for the bed yet, but glam and vibrant and cocooning. Like a big enveloping hug. Paint will play a big role in that, along with the bed fabrics….and I definitely want to showcase the windows.

Hi Sugarplum | Master Bedroom moodboard
Thank you, Kristen, for corralling all my ideas in a single space for me!

So gorgeous, right?! Can I say that about my own design? I’m just so excited to see this space come together! Usually my room makeovers take 6 months, or even 6 years…certainly not 6 weeks. (See them here.) With a full-time job and two kids, home projects are slow-go around here, so it’s thrilling to know we’ll have this space done next month. #fingerscrossed (If it’s written on the internet, it must be true, right?!)
Another reason for the slow pace is budget…even being frugal, an entire room makeover ain’t cheap! Taking our time allows us to save up for the things we want. Fortunately, there are several generous sponsors of the ORC, so they are helping us git ‘er done!
We already own most of the big-ticket elements…bed, chairs, tv cabinet (see them here)…and the unique dimensions of the room made it pretty obvious where everything would land.

Making the decision to go dark on the walls was easyish, turns out choosing the right color isn’t as much. We finally settled on a winner….I’ll give you a hint: Butler’s Pantry.

Hi Sugarplum | Paint Swatches

We definitely have our work cut out for us….and hopefully what looks good on the moodboard, translates even better in person. Nightstands, mirrors, bedding, drapes and pillows are all on order…let’s send some good mojo to the UPS drivers, shall we?!

    • Gold star for you…so observant! 🙂 Yes, I'm swapping the coral duvet for a black and white one. I'll hang on to the coral for when I feel like switching up the room 🙂

Would you mind sharing the dimensions of your room? We're planning an addition and struggling with the bedroom dimensions. Striving for the balance between cramped and cavernous, ya know?

    • It's 13.5 x 20.5 (at the longest point of the middle window), with 9-foot ceilings. Basically a bowling alley 😉

YES HONEY. We are cut from the same cloth! I painted curtains based off of that spotted fabric for my bedroom makeover for the last ORC, and I'm still obsessed with them. And I'm using Orangeries for my living room this go-round! If you were closer, I'd give you a sexy hug. The coin slot kind, too. 😉
