{5 Ways} Transitioning to Spring

It’s Friday, the sun is shining, and the temperatures are in the 70s….a glorious day, right? But what do we wear??? We’ve been piling on the boots and sweaters for months, and if you’re like me, I get a little stumped at the beginning of a new season. It always seems to take me a bit before finding my closet comfort zone.
Some days it’s cool enough to start off in a sweater, but by noon I’m dying to rip it off faster than a prom dress. Spring weather is totally ADD, so I stick to my Springtime formula…bare arms or bare legs. Yep, it’s that simple.
If I’m wearing pants, jeans, or a maxi, I pair it with a tank or short sleeve top. And when I’m wearing shorter dresses, skirts and shorts, I pair them with a long-sleeve top, jacket, or sweater. And layers like scarves and lightweight jackets are key to stretching your wardrobe. I do pack away the wool and flannel, but most every other fabric is fair game in the Spring! How about some examples, mmmmkay?

Maxi skirts and dresses are my staples this time of year…especially since I’m not ready to bare my winter-white legs to the public! Texas is already pretty mild, but if your weather is still on the chilly side, just swap the jean vest for a jacket, and add a gauzy scarf (like this cute one), and substitute flats for sandals.

Recognize this outfit from the Power of One post? The statement necklace makes this more than just a black skirt and white tee. This one from Sole Society would be a fun option.

This outfit follows the same formula as above, but the skirt is swapped for jeans. If it were Fall, I’d wear this same combination, but with boots instead of sandals. When Summer rolls around, the jeans will be exchanged for shorts.

After a week or two of self-tanner, I’ll brave skirts and short dresses, but make them season-appropriate (along with office-friendly) with light jackets and cardigans. #allhailthejeanjacket

If you’re not ready to pack up your boots, then no need…just pair them with a tank and jeans, or dress and jacket. Even knee-high boots work great with jeans, tank and scarf.

Of course the obligatory Maggie photobomb…she wouldn’t leave my side even though it started sprinkling. I can’t tell if she liked the rain or not?

What about date night, or lunch with the girls? You know I bust out my white jeans year-round (see {5 Ways} White Jeans After Labor Day)...I love how crisp they are paired with black. I’m not a fan of the white shirt with black pants look (I’m afraid someone will try to give me their drink order), but I love this combo.

Remember this top from my Look for Less post? Consider me smitten! And can we talk about these heels for a minute?! Holy hot stuff!! People literally stop me when I wear them, and are shocked to hear I nabbed them so affordably from Sole Society (bonus: they’re on sale right now with free shipping!)

Talk about The Power of One…the shoes alone make this basic outfit fab! They come in several color/pattern combos…after much fretting I decided on the white/black/emerald, but I fear the cranberry may come to live with me soon, too!

Both my girls decided to photobomb this time…notice Babygirl working her own style post in my wedges and necklace! Miss Maggie just got her Summer cut…she’s feeling pretty self-conscience about it, so don’t tell her I published this pic.

Hi Sugarplum | How to Transition to Spring
Now that I think about it…my Spring formula is pretty much the same as my How to Transition to Fall formula, except I swap boots for sandals, and keep the jackets and scarves lightweight! I’ve got my brain reset for Spring now, so bring on the warmer temps! Just keep the self-tanner coming!

What’s your go-to Spring wardrobe formula? What {5 Ways} subject would you like to see next? Some I’ve been brainstorming include jean jacket, military jacket, and white dress…but I’d love to hear what you think. Happy weekend, lovebugs!

PS…thank you for your excitement over my ORC design plans yesterday! Several of you had questions, so I answered them all in the comments…check back there if you’re interested.

  1. Great tips, Cassie! The weather in Boston is especially ADD this time of year so layers are a must. I need to start working some more "spring" in – I wore my puffy coat yesterday and was basically swearing under my breath all day!

  2. I need to say three things: 1. You have the best hair. I love, love, love it! 2. No one rocks the bright colors and pattern mixing better than you. No one! 3. Your transition pieces are per-fection!

    Happy Friday!

Looking good! Sandals in April? that is a funny concept =) it is a sweet hazzle though, carrying around jackets bc it is warm. I usually just opt to freeze in the mornings!

I love your spring outfits and those shoes are amazing. I wish I could pull off a 4-1/2" heel but not sure I can chasing toddlers all day…and pregnant. I'm trying to figure out what to wear to a baby shower at my husbands office on a Tuesday at the end of the day. It's a business causal office (some dress up more). I wear skirts most days so I'm thinking about a new necklace to feel really pretty in! Maybe some new sandals….

Hi Cassie! Love all these outfits. Would you mind sharing how those racerback tanks from Target fit? They are super cute, but since they seem looser, wasn't sure if you would size down or not! Thanks!

Great advice Cassie! Thanks for these tips! Would you mind sharing about what self-tanner you use? I have emotional scars from tanner-tastrophes past and I'm a little gun shy about diving back in…any advice?
    Thanks!

I'd love to see a 5 ways post about maxi dresses. I tend to love Maxi dresses the most of any type of dress and after not being able to wear them in winter, I tend to overload on them in spring and summer. I'd love some ways to make them look different versus just the plain dress and long necklace combo.
