After revealing our new floorplan for the Den yesterday, I was surprised at how many of you are on the sectional bandwagon! So I started digging around for some inspiration, and was shocked at the gorgeous rooms I found with sectional sofas.
They are surprisingly sophisticated, yet provide a cozy and comfortable seating arrangement for a larger group. I’m really drawn to the moodier shades of charcoal.
I think a sectional is a great choice for our current Family Room, but who knows if it would work in future homes…unlike a traditional sofa, which is likely to fit in any room. For that reason, I’m leaning towards a more affordable option like Young House Love’s Ikea sectional. I like that it’s slipcovered for easy washing, and can be converted to a standard-sized sofa, too.
I've always wanted a sectional, but couldn't get my husband on board. Wait, isn't that normally the other way around? š Those are all gorgeous options.
We have a sectional and love it. Our in-laws just got one for the family room from crate and barrel. Microsuede is another option bc its super durable and easy to clean (many dog paws and red wine have already tested ours out!).
I love sectionals. They're so inviting and lounge-y. We don't have an ikea sectional but we do have an ikea sofa (Hovas) and I really like it. It's held up extremely well and is really deep. I'm getting tired of the tan cord fabric we originally chose and am leaning towards a new white slipcover. The best part – it's only $49!!! So you can easily change your mind about the color and not feel guilty.
We just moved into a new house and purchased the IKEA Karlstad sectional. We went with the 3 + 2 version without the chaise and love it! It is very comfortable and fits the budget. Good luck!
Yup, we have a sectional too- one with a chaise at one end. I like it because it fits our space perfectly, but I get annoyed at how "smushed" our back pillows get and don't hold their shape. Ours is the Pierce from Pottery Barn I think. I"m pretty sure Courtney has the same couch version in her living room.
I'm just waiting to get ours (well, the one for my parents to their new living room)! I ordered a huge one to fit also us children when we visit. We put 2 lounge part together to make it really a "lazy" sofa. http://talojajatoiveita.blogspot.fi/2012/07/sohva-coffee-anyone.html
We have a modular sectional and I love it! I love the idea that I can change the shape up and when we move, if it needs to be smaller that is a doable option. We also have a fabric ottoman and matches the sectional and I love that too. It easily fits into the corners and almost creates a bed. Dream snuggle time.
Those are some great sectionals. I have a brown one and cannot wait to get a new one. Hopefully gray. Waiting for the kids to trash this one for a few more years š
Where would this Momma be without her sectional? Our family room has one and I call it the "family flop". All 3 boys, me the dog and the Mr. squeezed into all the marshmallowy goodness…you'll love it. Ours is a warhorse made of hardwood and covered in microsuede. Did I mention all boys, big dog and Mr.?
I hesitate with IKEA sometimes due to durability š
We bought a charcoal sectional from Ikea and love it. Not always a fan of theirs but this guy is a winner. The kids and dog have put it to the test and it still looks great and is super comfy.
I've been considering the same one for our basement playroom/game room. I actually sat on it at IKEA yesterday and it's very comfortable and sturdy. Sectionals have come a looooongg way! xo Heidi
I have had the Karlstad sofa (same as YHL) and love it. I was a bit worried about comfort as the sectional in our great room is the Axis from Crate and Barrel and beyond comfortable. The Karlstad is a firmer sofa but still comfortable. A warning: in order to was the "body" slipcover (all but the cushions), you have to take the sofa apart. You can find long slipcovers on eBay where you don't have to disassemble the sofa to wash them.
I love a good sectional! And don't think they're too grandma at all. In fact, we're looking at some for our new slate room living room… but some of the more traditional ones like PB, etc. Good luck and keep us posted!

Our sectional has the chase lounge attached to it. Makes for the perfect reading spot. (or lounging around watching TV)

ooh great roundup!
I love the sectional look too. I'm trying to get my Mister on board but he thinks we should wait till we move. (That could be never… or forever away.)
Aside from that, I've been adding my likes to Our (read:my) Dream House and sectionals definitely make the cut!
Love love love those charcoal ones!! We got our sectional at sofa during a holiday weekend sale, and it was pretty reasonable.

Ooh I love these. Great picks! Our living room is too small for a sectional, but perhaps one day! š xoxo
We have a sectional! It's so handy and with the right styling (like the pics above) can be updated every season. xx
