{Living Room} The Reveal

Hopefully my post title didn’t make you think you’d see more pictures of the new house today! Surely you know by now there’s no way I’d have a room reveal after only a week!? More like a year and a week. #snailspace
Well actually, we worked at such a feverish pace to prepare the old house for sale and a photoshoot, that some of the spaces were transformed in only a few weeks. And even though I’m anxious to show you more of the new house (yes, there is more than just the Kitchen), I have quite a few projects left to share from this one. That way I can wrap up the Home Tour for our memory banks, too.
The Living Room makeover happened slowly and over a few years, but that allowed us to be selective and add layers as we discovered them. The last big thing on the To Do List was to paint the pale yellow walls…which normally I wouldn’t have done considering we were about to move (and there was nothing technically wrong with the old color, besides the fact that I didn’t like it)
But since I’d been experimenting with so many paint swatches for the last six months, the walls looked like checkerboards…hence the room got painted! I still couldn’t decide on a color, so we went with white. Straight out of the can, Sherwin Williams white.

Being the color-lover I am, I thought I’d never have white walls. But actually, they act as the perfect canvas to showcase all the color in the room. It was immediately brighter and happier…and so was I! I can’t even believe it’s the same room from a few years ago (see Befores here). We did a little final zhushing, and the room was ready for the Open House. (Read our tips on prepping your house for a fast sell here.)

Hi Sugarplum | Colorful Living Room
The wall color change was so drastic and such an immediate improvement, that it was just another example of, ‘Why did we wait so long to do this?!?!’ Do you have a few of those projects sitting around?
The rooms in the new house are very different in size and dimension, but this space has transferred over pretty seamlessly. And I loved the wall color so much, I duplicated it there! I was pretty sad to leave the dragonfly paper behind though.

Love the way you style your house and all the decoration you have in there! Thank you for providing the source list which is so helpful! Can you tell me where did you get the paint (the little lady in mustard dress) in the first photograph? Or maybe what is the name of it? Feels like it's an art piece by some famous artist:) thank you!

I believe the art is very similar to a piece that resides in Lorelei Gilmore's entry way. I was watching last night and noticed it and thought I had seen it before somewhere else. 🙂

I noticed that you have a camel saddle. I have one as well! I found mine at an antique store quite a while back and love it as a conversation piece (because most people have no clue what it is). Mine has a green leather padded seat. Such a fun and funky piece! 🙂

I never noticed your warmer color before, but the bright white makes such a big difference! I wish I would have done a brighter white on mine, but shhh… don't tell my hubby. He might come home one day to find it repainted! 😉

Long time follower of your blog, and I just noticed this post on today.com. The title in their post is a bit misleading. Idk…. But it is pretty exciting to be mentioned by them. Did you know they were going to do a feature on you?

    Posted 3.23.15 Reply
    • hisugarplum wrote:

Hi anon! 😉 Yes, I knew they were doing the feature…she sent over a list of questions…but I had no idea their angle would be about selling the house. HSP readers know the makeover had nothing to do with that…or what caused it to sell quickly!? Seems odd to make it about that, and not just a makeover..but what do I know. 😉 xoxo

      Thanks so much for reading!!!
