Hi Sugarplum!

{Living Room} Pillow Talk

January 13, 2012

Thanks to an after-Christmas sale, and some dumb color luck, the Living Room sofa now has pillows that coordinate with the rest of the room!

100_6861

Oops! You can’t see them too well with the stems on the coffee table. So as Mr. Sugarplum would so eloquently say, “Can we get this tree off the table?!”

100_6863

Much better. As luck would have it, I was browsing the sales at West Elm when I spied these ikat pillows….for $14 each! (For some reason they aren’t on sale online.) Because they were final sale though, ‘Rita Return’ (aka, me) wouldn’t be able to pull her usual tricks…but I took a chance the colors would work anyway.

100_6862

The down inserts are Ikea, and from unused pillows I already own. The zebra is an oldie from Pier 1 that used to live on my bed. And the lumbar was wrestled from the sweaty clutches of a maniac shopper at the Missoni for Target sale. *Part of that statement may be embellished.* Oh, and the striped throw is an Ikea goodie, as well.

100_6864

Turns out Rita had nothing to worry about. The pillow colors perfectly coordinate with the room, and pull together the sofa, green wingback and peacock armoire.

100_6858

I think maybe I need one more pillow (in place of the zebra) that includes the pink from the bookcases and rug. I do have leftover fabric from the bookcase project…perhaps with a dark blue piping? And even though this Living Room Makeover has been derailed, I haven’t forgotten about the little nook on the left.

100_6863

I just don’t know what to do with it yet. I’d love to hear your opinions on the new pillows…adding another pink pillow…and ideas on the back nook. That’s a lot of homework for this freaky Friday!

And if you’re playing catch-up, here’s the Living Room progress. Just click on each link for the project. Have a great weekend, lovebugs. I’ve got a date with an allen wrench!

LOVE THE NEW PILLOWS!!! My first thoughts were though – I'm suprised she hasn't done anything with pink to pull in the bookcase colors. I think the same fabric with blue piping sounds GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!

Looks amazing! I actually like them like this, with the pink not on the sofa. I think it'd look good either way though.

LOVE the new pillows. Sadly they don't have the blue/green Ikat on the West Elm site anymore. A pillow with pink would pull everything together – can't wait to see what you end up doing/finding.

I've been eyeing those ikat pillows but since all my west elm shopping is online I haven't pulled. The trigger. So jealous you got them on sale. I think pulling a little pink in would look great.

I think adding a spot of pink just may be the right touch! Love how the hubby refers to your coffee table decor, almost thought I was reading about my own husband right there. What do they know? Sheesh!
It all looks so peaceful and calm. Great job!

Love the ikat pillows! A pink accent pillow would be a great touch. Thoughts on the little nook: what if you painted the chest the peacock color (which would look great with the pillows in the foreground) and used a larger mirror to bring more light into this space. Whatever you do I know it will be gorgeous.

First of all, $14? What a steal! They look great and I agree that a little pop of pink might be nice to tie in with your rug and bookcase.

I think you've already made the pink pillow, so I'll go on record saying a pink pillow would be perfect (just so I'm right!). I like it the way it is now too. Love the striped throw and all the black!!

I actually really like the zebra pillow. What about adding some pink pipping to that pillow? The zebra brings in some fun texture that helps pull in the black mantel, entry rug and ikea stripped throw.

I need to pick up some pillows our couch. The pillows we have now are from when I had my "girly" apartment.
I have a hard time committing to something new!
I love the wing back chair! I have been absent for a while and somehow missed out on that! I wish that we had more room in our cramped living room. My hubs recliner takes up too much space!

I do like the zebra, but I think you're right that some pink would really bring the whole space together. I would say blue or black to tie in with your other pillows. It's looking great!!

You need a curvy little piece in that little alcove or a mirrored piece. Stencil the back wall or the whole alcove in something funky but subtle – tone on tone – using the same wall color or introduce one of your accent colors from the LR just for that area. Bigger mirror with more umph!!

Hi Ashley — your profile isn't set to receive emails, so hopefully you check back here. I wish I could link you to the rug, but it belonged to my grandparents. All I know, is they bought it somewhere in New Orleans while vacationing there decades ago!

    Hi Sugarplum,
Can I ask if your sofa is from Freestyle of London? As in that case, I have the exact same one. One question, any tips for cleaning the arms and back that can’t be removed? Many thanks, Vivienne

No, we found this one about 15 years ago at American Signature. I usually just spot clean it with Folex!
