{Living Room} Lamp-A-Looza

My love for paint chocolate cardigans lamps runs as deep as Carrie Bradshaw’s love of shoes. I am incapable of ignoring the lamp section, in any store! I especially love finding lamp treasure in unexpected places. And in my geeky off-time, I play musical lamps in my home. You may recall the most recent Living Room lamps were gold with black drum shades. I never really loved them in this room. Too tall, dark and handsome heavy in front of the bookshelves.

100_6863

But after we got new chairs, I discovered I really loved them in the Dining Room!

100_6924

Which meant the shorter urchin lamps….

100_2132

Moved to the Living Room. Where they looked like lamps in a whack-a-mole game, with only the tops visible.

Something in between those two sizes was needed, and as luck would have it, I found three great options! I don’t want to cloud your opinion, so I’ll hold off telling you where. Each is still attached to the package so Rita Return can do her thang once a decision has been made, so just disregard the box under each.

Previous Lamp-A-Looza posts revealed your adoration of lamps, so you get to help me choose! (Because you know I’m decision-making-stunted.) First up are the clear stacked balls TWSS. I like that they don’t detract from the room, but the bases are a bit puny, they are a tad too short, and I have a similar lamp in Babygirl’s Room.

Disregard the carpet cleaner in the corner and the urchin lamps on the floor. I couldn’t be bothered to move them.

Next on your ballot are the mossy green gourd lamps. Good sized base and height, and the color pulls from the pillows, rug and wingchair.

Ignore the wreaths, too. I’ve since taken them down.

And finally for your consideration, the smoky blue gourds. Good sized base and height, and the color pulls from the pillows, sofa, rug and armoire.

It’s a tough choice, right?! I really like each for different reasons.

And the shopping spot of these surprise treasures…..Lowes! Yep, who knew?! Each base (lampshade not included) is less than $25. Can’t beat that with a stick.

So what’s your vote:
A. Clear
B. Green
C. Blue
D. Who cares, please stop talking about lamps and finish the Living Room for crying out loud!

I have committment and decision issues with purchases too. Lucky for you, Lowes will take any and all returns.

Your black lampshades are moody and are probably better placed in the dining room for some ambiance. I painted the inside of my black lampshade, following Cassie's method with Gold Dust Modern Metallic paint, and it turned out FABulously. It is on a corner lamp in the entryway and sheds just enough mood for that space.

With the green lamps all I look at is the lamps (my boyfriend wanted the green ones for our house as well) & I don't really notice the beautiful shelving displays behind. And the clear, MEH. You clearly have a nagging dissatisfaction with this room. I think the problem lies not with the lamps but right at your feet: the rug. If you would remove the rug, or at least replace it with something more neutral, all the rest of the room would fall into place.

Are the lamps needed for light? If they are merely decorative, I would do away with them completely. There is so much going on in the bookcase behind the lamps that the lamps are a distraction from all your other hard work.

No on the clear- nice, but not really substantial enough for the space (just my opinion). Like the green a lot, especially with the new couch pillows, but not sure I love them with the color scheme of the rest of the room (not seeing that green anywhere but on the pillows- seems a bit off with the rug, wingback, etc.). I vote blue- compliments the entire room without being another big focal point. More cohesive w/ the room as a whole. Gotta edit somewhere, right? 🙂

Love the green for contrast and interest. The blue is too predictable and the clear lamp disappears in the room.

If you're looking for a contrast and a pop of color, I'd go with the green. If you want them to blend but still be eye catching, I'd choose the blue. My opinion would be green though. Love your space!

  137. I am going to say BLUE, because it looks great, and doesn't compete for your attention visually with all the other fab things in your room.
You are SO funny! Whack a mole! Ha! And, I can just picture you fining a great lamp while shopping…"Hello, Lover!" Hee-hee.
I totally get it, though my shoe obsession is unfortunately equal to my home decor obsession. *Sigh*
Have a great weekend! Can't wait to see what you decide!

I like the green the best but also would like to say (and I know you did not ask this, so apologies if I offend!) I feel the lamp shades interfere with the pictures and the mirror in the background. I would suggest getting some small adjustable reading lamps on swivel arms that can be used at night for light but during the day not ruin the line of sight along the back of the couch, understand??

  147. Hehehe…I thought about answering "D" just to be a pain in the a**, but I actually wanted to say that I *LURVE* the green ones…the stacked crystal just doesn't have enough "omph" for the area and the blue is too matchy-matchy with the couch…Um, opinionated much? Why yes, yes I am! But honestly, you always seem to figure out the best one all on your own (c; I can't wait to see what you decide!

P.S. In all actuality, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them (c:

I like the blue best. I don't think it looks too "matchy". There's already a lot of color in that area because of the rug, pillows and book cases. Perfect! I too have a lamp addiction. My husband teases me about it all the time. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!

I think I have caught this lamp affliction from you. I catch myself cruising through the lamp section of any store. Sighing, touching, and oh yes – buying.
I love the blue ones -that is my favorite color, but the green ones work best for your space – blend but not too matchy.

Blue just goes away & blends in far too much.

The clear are super cute (love the stacked balls … I have them in my bedroom in nickel finish) & you would be able to use them almost anywhere when you get the urge to play musical lamps again.

BUT, for this room, in this space, for now, I like the green best … it is most pleasing to the eye.

Can't wait to see what you choose!

  177. I love the blue lamps best. When I saw them I thought "Just like a professional and expensive decorator would choose." For me, there is quite a lot going on behind those lamps on the bookshelf area and the green lamp choice looks too busy.

I vote for the blue which looks wonderful with your blue armoire, blue couch and blue in the rug.
