In My 50s…What’s Actually Working for Me

Hi friends 💛

I recently shared a post on Instagram about being in my 50s (see it HERE) and the response was overwhelming — in the best way. The messages, the comments, the “saaaaame!” replies… clearly this season of life is resonating with a lot of us.

Whether you saw that post or not, I wanted to bring the conversation here and expand on it a bit.

There was a stretch where I didn’t quite feel like myself — tired, foggy, a little off in my own skin. Not dramatic. Not crisis-level. Just not me. And pretending nothing was changing didn’t work. White-knuckling through it didn’t either.

So instead of fighting this chapter, I started supporting it. I found a functional doctor educated on women’s health and invested in helping me balance mine. I started listening to every single wellness doctor and implemented strength training in my regular routine. I took a look at everything I was putting in and on my body with new eyes…because while it may have worked before, it certainly wasn’t working any longer.

Today I’m sharing what’s genuinely helping me look and feel my best in my 50s — from strength training and hormone support to the jeans, matching sets, and beauty favorites that make everyday life feel a little easier and a lot more confident.

It’s not about turning back time. It’s about feeling strong, clear, and like myself again. I’m not there yet, but I’m feeling more me than I have in years!

This chapter doesn’t look like my 30s or 40s — and I’m learning that it’s not supposed to.

What’s working now is different: more intention, more strength, more support (and yes, better skincare and higher-rise denim definitely help 😉).

If you’re in this season too, I hope this feels encouraging. You’re not behind. You’re not doing it wrong. Your body isn’t betraying you — it’s evolving. And we get to evolve with it. I read something the other day that in Japan they call menopause ‘Konenki‘, which means the ‘renewal years.‘ Women are celebrated for entering their wise phase, and symptoms are simply a sign of the transition.

So look out world, I’m entering my Wise Era, and you know what?! I’m here for it!

I’d love to hear what’s working for you in this chapter. We’re all figuring it out together — and there’s something really comforting about that. 💛

So interesting that you went the functional medicine route. I got a second opinion on Monday from an MD on my perimenopause symptoms and the conversation was mind-blowingly irritating. My quality of life mattered zero. That I can be in so much pain I cannot speak was utterly dismissed. I was told to take 2 Alleve. Good for you finding care that’s working. I’m not on a waiting list to see doctor #3 in 5 months. Between now and then is more suffering, I suppose. I have called my insurance 1-800 number to get better info on clinicians and better referrals. Let’s see if #3 can provide some relief.

I’m with you! Collagen and creatine. Intentional strength training. Good quality skin care products (been thinking about trying the Kiehl’s lotion). Adapted my makeup routine. High waist trouser jeans have been a game changer! And I do not deprive myself of good night’s sleep! Here’s to our wise years, and aging graciously. 🙂

Thanks for sharing! I’m loving the d’Alba multi balm stick around my eyes before putting on any makeup. It really hydrates and prevents any settling in the fine lines. Even the CR tinted eye cream would settle and look horrid in my creepy skin in the corners of my eyes. Not any more though! Makeup lasts all day!

Thank you for this! I’m 42 and sometimes just feel down about aging and this being a time of transition, but this is such an encouraging post! You seem to be absolutely thriving without trying to act too young and that is so lovely to see.

It’s hard to let some things go…or the idea of some things. But the freedom and confidence that comes with aging is pretty amazing!

The best thing I have done for myself is start Dr. Jen Ashton’s Wellness Experiment. The information she gives for women over 50 is amazing! Testing, nutrition, supplements, HRT, exercises from Korey Rowe (look him up!!). I have NO idea why our Dr. don’t give us this needed information. Every women should at least subscribe to her free newsletter. Your weighted vest, red light therapy, Thorne creatine, HRT were all written about in her newsletters. She researches trends/topics and gives her medical opinion as well as her personal one too! She had here eyes done and wrote all about it plus had a live interactive zoom with her surgeon.
