Here’s What’s Up

Hello Friday, my sweet, sweet friend!! It’s been crazy around these parts lately, and my head is a whirl with activity today, so I’ll just throw it all out there. Here’s what’s up this weekend at Casa Sugarplum.

You know I’m not a frequent hair-washer, but did you know Mr. Sugarplum colors it? (I get some help in the blonde department. Shocker, I know.) Granted I don’t use off-the-shelf box color, since my Nashville bff is a rock-star hairstylist, she keeps me stocked with the good stuff. And even though Mr. Sugarplum does a bang-up job, it doesn’t compare to a professional. In the six years we’ve lived here, I’ve been relying on him and frequent visits with my friend to keep me from looking like a wildebeest. As hard as it is, it’s time to find a local hairstylist. I’ve got an appointment tomorrow with someone new, and I’m bringing these pictures with me. Does anyone do blonde and bangs better than Reese?

My son is single-handedly keeping the healthcare industry in business. Yesterday he had his third x-ray this year…busted foot, sprained thumb and now fractured arm. Next up is the appointment with an orthopedic. Is this just a boy thing??

Since it appears Google isn’t going to come to their senses and keep Picnik around, it’s time to face the inevitable. I’ve been playing around with the different photo-editing sites available, and PicMonkey is by far my favorite. It was created by former Picnik people, so it’s veeeeeery similar. I edited this post and this post completely with PicMonkey. It’s free for now, but I’m sure once they add more features (and Picnik closes for good), they’ll start charging.

I can’t believe we leave for our Canadian adventure one week from today! There is so much I want to take with me, so I’m trying to take my own advice about packing wisely!

Slowly but surely, I’ve been going through our digital pictures and making a family photo book for each year, but ran out of steam around 2009. Snapfish is having a sale on all photo books, so here’s hoping I find time for 2010 and 2011! Use code CelebrateBKS for 50% off until April 15, or Bookit40 for 40% off until April 30.

And lastly, I’d like to welcome my newest sponsors! I’m so honored they want to be part of this blog. If you’re interested in reaching the hottest, most clever readers in blogland, shoot me an email.

What have you got going on this beautiful Spring weekend? Enjoy, lovebugs!

  3. Ha! So I got in a debate with my brother last week about how hardly any girls wash and dry their hair every day. He was dumbfounded and went on the sniff test that he's never smelled a girl who didn't smell like soap therefore they must wash hair daily. Unless you're a gym rat, nope. Not the case 9 times out of 10. Especially the blondes! ha! Also, posted your pants taday!

  4. I lived outside Nashville and in need of a stylist who is great with blondes! Does your friend work in a salon or only privately? If she is in a salon I would love to have her name so I could go see her. Thanks so much.

  5. Love Reese Witherspoon- wish I had her hair! And thanks for the heads up on PicMonkey, I'm getting depressed over losing Picnik.

  6. I wish I didn't have to pay a hair stylist for my blonde, but I will. I might could recommend someone depending on where in DFW you are (though I'm up north in McKinney, so most of the folks I know are up around here). Enjoy the weekend!

I love picmonkey – it is so easy to use. Almost idiot proof, which is great for me. Hope you enjoy Vancouver. I live in Alberta and we are getting snow here today 🙁

  8. OH, your poor little man. Boys are so different, aren't they! Little help with the blonde action over here, too! I am still midway through my 2011 album and have hit a wall. Thanks for the sale headsup. Happy weekend.

  9. Oh gosh – are you saying this is what I have to look forward to with my boy?! Right now – it's lots of bruises and banged up knees but nothing too serious. He is all kinds of wild though so I'm sceeeered for the future! Good luck with your hair – finding a new stylist is hard! I never found anyone I trust to do my eyebrows since I left California. I've been doing them myself for 12 years now!

  10. So I finally buckled and signed up for Google+ so that I can use the photo editing service through them. It still links up to Picasa web albums…so for now, it works. Good tip on Pic Monkey though! And OH man about your son…fun things to look forward to. I guess boys will be boys!

  11. I need to check out Pic Monkey… I'm going to be so lost without Picnik!

  12. love Reese's look, pinning! I've been a loyal snapfish user for years, but never made a photobook with them. I've only used blurb for a wedding guestbook. How do you like the snapfish photobooks?

  13. LOVE all the Reese inspiration – she definitely has amazing hair! Good to hear about PicMonkey…I had just started blogging/using Picnik when they announced they were closing…so good to know that there's something out there similar! Have a good weekend – good luck with the hair!

Dude! We Canadians just got the memo that you're on your way next week. All 14 of us look forward to hosting you 🙂 You sound very very busy. So glad your hair will be organized for your trip North! BTW – I wouldn't let my hubs dye the dog 😉 Your man is a rockstar stylist himself, must be.

  18. Yeah, Reese's hair is pretty perfect! Thanks for the heads up about picMonkey- I've never heard of it! And so sorry about your boy! He looks adorable though.

  19. Thank you so much for doing the leg work on the Picnik situation. I'm in total denial. Just devastated. I'm committed to dealing with my denial this weekend. 😉

P.S. You and Reese could be twins.

About your son… sounds to me like he's all boy and believe me, unless they get dirty and hurt, they're not having fun. By the time our son was 10, they knew us by name in the ER.

  21. Thanks for the photo editing tips- I am sad that Picnik is closing – boo hoo. And I have no Photoshop…

As for the boy and broken bones, my daughter was like that last year. She broke her arm in the summer and then 2 months later severely fractured her tibia and growth plate. Was on crutches for 13 weeks!

Hope our weather will stay nice for your visit. Today was a perfect Vancouver day! Have you decided on a hotel???

  22. I love Reese's hair too! She can rock the blonde bangs for sure! I really can't believe that you get the Mister to help you with your color! That. is. awesome. My husband would not even consider that. He cant stand the smell of hair color, or nail polish. I'm left to try and become an Octopus every 6 weeks on my own. I am too cheap to pay someone! Hehe.
Sorry about your son. Is this what I have to look forward to? I have a 5 yr old testosterone cannon…
    Have a great weekend!

Here’s What’s Up

It’s Friday!! Aaaaaaaw yeah! I am definitely ready for the weekend, how about you? I can’t wait to curl up with my computer and check out all the travel tips you gave me for British Columbia! Thanks so much, eh! (Last time, promise.) My head is awhirl with activity today, so I’ll just get it out there.

Yesterday I was able to meet the talented Pam of Pixelimpress for lunch, and it was so fun to talk with someone who gets the whole online/bloggy friend thing! She’s the creative girl who made my packages so fun for Christmas…her tags and cards are the best.

via

Me thinks I need some calling cards now! (For no reason other than to say, “Here’s my calling card. Call me.”)

via

We have friends from our Nashville days, who now live in Montreal, visiting family in Texas (you follow?) this weekend. I’m beyond excited to see them!

via

My design ADD has kicked into overdrive, and my head might explode if I don’t duplicate Courtney’s ridiculously amazing frame project immediately!

via

The frames in my Dining Room are positively begging for brass corners. Nevermind that I’m in the middle of two other room projects.

My mom has been buttering me up to come help her with some house projects. She’s even offering free lunch and gas if I come over Sunday, which naturally has me really worried about what she wants me to do! Of course I’ll go, if only so I can mention it when the time comes to sand my secretary!

via

This image from Pinterest was my favorite this week. I challenge you to stare at it for 5 seconds without smiling.

via

And, I’m guest posting at Tiffany’s, from Living Savvy today. She’s got a fun Spraypainter’s Anonymous Series, so go check it out. I promise it’s more than just mindless ramblings.

So that’s what’s up in my head and our house this weekend! Thanks for letting me get it all out. What are you sweet peas up to this weekend?
