Friday Housekeeping

I am so completely overwhelmed by the support you guys threw my way for the ‘Doing It All. Who Does???’ post! I can’t tell you how petrified I was to actually hit publish on that one. I mean really, is there anything more scary than revealing your true self?! But what I found through your amazing comments, tweets, texts, emails and facebook posts, is that all of us struggle in many areas of our lives, but we’re also comforted knowing we’re not in this alone.

Our appearances and homes may look different on the outside, but inside we all battle similar pressures and demons. I hope to remember that next time envy and guilt show their ugly heads.

I love this quote that Katie sent me:

“The reason we struggle with insecurity is
because we’re comparing our behind-the-scenes footage with everyone
else’s highlight reels.” — Steven Furtick

Maybe I’ll knit that on a pillow so I don’t forget! Not really. I have no idea how to knit. But thank you, thank you for opening yourselves back up to me, and for being so kind with my exposed soul. It was like a giant virtual hug!

Enough of the Kumbaya, and let’s do some Friday Housekeeping!

First up, I’m hanging with Dana at Make Them Wonder today. She has a great series called, ‘Blogging Made Me Do It!”, and at no surprise to anyone, I took mine in a totally whack direction! So hop over there and read about the nuttiest thing I’ve done, all because of blogging!

Earlier in the week, I was chatting it up about my personal style with sweetie-pie, Michaela. She’s got some great bloggers talking about their home and fashion style, so check it out!

And I think I’ve had a total lapse in judgement, because I’m taking the kids on a week-long road trip…Griswald style! Starting tomorrow, we’ll hit the road with no plans or agendas, and ultimately end up in Nashville to stay with my treasured friend. Did you catch that it’d be just me and the kids?! No Mr. Sugarplum to navigate and referee.

I’m actually really excited to spend this time with them, and see what kind of memories we make. You know, practice that concept of living life instead of just observing it? So we’re packing up the car and heading out…hopefully making it out of town before I lose my mind nerve. You can follow along on InstaGram…my name is CassieSugarplum.

While we won’t look like a Tommy Hilfiger ad, I will be traveling a lot more stylishly thanks to this adorable tote from Simply Bags. Stripes, monogram and red, white and blue?!?! I think I’m in love! They have some really cute totes to choose from, and the embroidery is free on the beach bags!

I’m not leaving you high-and-dry though, some of my friends will stop by to share their {Marry, Make-Out & Muzzle} choices, I’ll answer all the questions you asked me about blogging, and hopefully share some scenes from the road. Wish me luck, patience, good humor, and an endless supply of sunflower seeds. Here’s hoping your weekend is full of your favorite people!

  2. How funny… Steven Furtick is my pastor at Elevation Church here in Charlotte. He has lots of great quotes and that's a really good one. Good luck, safe travels, and have fun on your road trip. I'm single mom-ing it this weekend too.

Where did you get that photo of the back of the car?Is it a Tommy H. ad? I only ask because I have that tartan plaid cooler and thermos and I'm using them for my daughter's grad party.

    thanks,

  6. Here's to hoping you can manage the back seat swat while driving. 😉 Sounds like fun – I love a road trip! You're going to be 3 hours from me! Have fun in Nashville – are you on instagram?

  7. Such great quotes. Proud of you, girl. Have so much fun on your trip. What a good mama. I remember doing that with my mom and I was in charge of pouring lemonade out of a spout in the back seat when someone was thirsty. It got jammed and I was like I Love Lucy with cups and cups of lemonade in the back seat not wanting to tell anyone! 😉

  8. you will have a great time! I did that once, long ago – drove from Atlanta to Corpus Cristi (and back) with my two – my only advice is "have good wiper blades" We were caught in a downpour and mine came off. an adventure they still talk about! peace out girl scout!

  9. You are so brave, safe travels! You are coming to my neck of the woods. If I ran into you, I'd probably be too shy to say anything! I'm not even a shy person but I have a feeling I would be shy, awkward and just too embarrassed to speak. Have a great trip! You are much braver than I am!

  10. That first quote is spot on! I needed that reminder as I just got done looking at a woman's amazing house online, while I'm sitting on my couch looking out at the complete disaster that is my living room and kitchen right now 😉 Have fun on the road trip! Memories will for sure be made!

Friday Housekeeping

Heeeeeeey! How about a big-ole ‘Whoop-Whoop!’ for Friday! We’ve got a big weekend of piano recitals and yard work planned, as well as a few projects, and I can’t wait to get started. It’s been too long since my finger was on the nozzle of a spraypaint can, or the trigger of a glue gun….time to remedy that before I go into withdrawls!

First up, my finger has been a little busy online shopping. I’ve been smitten with C.Wonder, but have yet to pull the trigger for anything. That changes today with this monster of a sale!

Their prices are fair to begin with…but on sale….and then another half off that?!?! Here’s what I’m looking at, along with the final sale price.

Ikat Pattern Notebook $4

Chinoise Dinner Plate $3

Set of 3 Chinoise Nesting Bowls $15

Large Pattern Spheres $6

Tropics Notecards $2

Faux Croc Tray $12

Calf Hair Cuff $12

Yes, that’s dollars. Crazy prices, right? There are several pages of sale items to woo you, just enter 50MORE at checkout for the additional half-off sale price (no clue how long this sale runs). But don’t do it until I have my cuff and nesting bowls, mmmkay? World Market is also having a pretty wicked sale on their Outdoor Goods, as well as a 10% off coupon for Reward Members. I’m stopping by after work to check some stuffs…

Wood Potting Bench $72

Bali Stripe Chair Pad $20

Polka Dot Paris Tea Towel $8

Okay, so the tea towel isn’t Outdoor or on sale, but I may need it anyway. Neither store is pimping me to tell you this, either. I’m enabling your shopping habit all on my own! You’re welcome.

  4. I totally took advantage of the World Market sale and got some great chairs for our screened in porch on sale ( http://www.keller-creative.com/2012/05/southern-screened-in-porch.html ). I've also been stalking C Wonder but havent made the plunge yet!

  5. I NEED that wooden potting bench! I wonder if I can find one here in the UK? My yard looks…well it doesn't look good. If the weather would get above 45F and stop raining maybe I could do something about it! For now, we look like the dirties of the street.

LOVE the designer pillows from Pillows by Design!

Who doesn't need a Paris tea towel?!

  9. I've been lusting over the C. Wonder goods too. This is the perfect excuse to finally order some of them! I'm a little jealous of my sis who lives in NYC who gets to go to the actual C. Wonder store.

  10. I want to go to World Market too- ours is a little out of the way so I tend to forget about it. And definitely heading to C-Wonder- thanks for the heads up on the sale! Have a great weekend!
