Dressing Room Diaries

Cheers to the almost-weekend! Thanks for all your great tips and feedback on my packing posts this week! After some reeeeally late nights, we got everything done at home, and made it to the airport with minimal bags in tow this morning. I was so torn between packing light, and packing every darling outfit I own….because, hello pictures!!?? #priorities

We arrive Barcelona early tomorrow morning (hopefully we won’t have any ‘incidents’ like before!!), and will have some time to explore before embarking on the ship Saturday afternoon. I’m sure I’ll be over-sharing on Instagram and Snapchat, so follow me there if you want to follow along (@cassiesugarplum).

Today it’s time for the next installment of Dressing Room Diaries, where I hunt down some of the cutest new arrivals from my favorite retailers, and review them for you. And between looking for new things for the trip, and my usual stops, it’s a doozy of a post!

The shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, my hair is usually past it’s expiration, and many of the items aren’t a good fit for me…but it’s real life, real girl, real clothes…and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model.

Sidenote: Everything fits true-to-size unless I indicate otherwise. And fyi, I’m 5’4″-ish, 115 pounds-ish, with a slight pear shape.

I love fun, flirty tops, especially for girl’s night or date night…throw them on with jeans and heels, and you’re perfectly sassy. This one is a gorgeous color, and has fun touches like a keyhole back and ruffle.

Fit Tip: I wear this bra with tops like these.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Prepare yourself for off-the-shoulder overload in this post…the style is everywhere! This chambray dress was a great weight and thickness, and the price can’t be beat. I also liked the slightly longer length, which keeps it modest, considering you’re exposing so much up top.
Fit Tip: It runs really big…this XS was overwhelming my frame.
Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries
I’ve been saving this pic for the past two Dressing Room posts, just waiting for the top to show up online. Alas, I still can’t find it, so maybe it’s an in-store only…but I still wanted to share with you because the embroidered top is just too cute. If you spot it, let me know so I can update the post.

This chambray off-the-shoulder is super soft and lightweight, but not so thin you’d see the outline of a strapless bra. I loved the pretty scallop hem, and it’s just as cute pulled up on the shoulders.

Fit Tip: It runs a little big, I’m wearing an XS.

Hi Sugarplum / Dressing Room Diaries

Why are pineapples so cute?! It’s one of the few graphics I’ll wear…something about them is more chic than juvenile. This tank is super soft, and would be so cute with shorts, or knotted with a skirt. Look for it along the Mediterranean next week! šŸ˜‰

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but hoping it doesn’t shrink when laundered!

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries
Pineapple Tee (on sale for $20!) | Ankle JeansSneakers

Speaking of chic, is there anything that screams French more than a good striped boatneck tee?! I love red and blue combo, and the thick cotton of this tee, but it’s definitely more ivory than white…which makes it darling with dark jeans, but a tad off when paired with white.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries
Striped Tee (on sale for $22) | Ankle Jeans | Sneakers

Another dress that will be strolling the streets of Italy with me…it’s fully lined and embroidered, which was completely unexpected given the price. The linen blend makes it so airy and soft, but hopefully it doesn’t wrinkle like crazy.
Fit Tip: It runs a little big, I’m wearing a 0.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

This flounce top is a fun twist on the off-the-shoulder trend, and has three ways to wear it…plus pockets!! It’s a good thick chambray material, and hits at a flattering spot on the waist, making it cute untucked with pants or shorts, or tucked in a skirt.
Fit Tip: I sized up to a 2 for a slightly more relaxed fit. My usual size was too fitted through the body.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

I’m having a moment with pull-on, elastic-waist skirts this season…something so classic, but casual, about them. And hello, so comfortable!! This one is a great length, fully-lined, and the tassels make it so fun. The top is too loose for it, but all I had with me in the dressing room. Can’t you see it paired with a fitted white tank?!

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

I loved this very grown-up romper, with the flattering wrap-waist, and pockets. It’s a good, sturdy material, too.
Fit Tip: I have a long torso, so this petite 0 was too short in the stride for me, but I liked the length.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Another darling romper, this one with drawstring waist and flutter sleeve for a very feminine fit. It’d be easy to dress up with jewels and wedges, or keep it casual with flat sandals or espadrilles.
Fit Tip: This is a regular XS, which fit my torso better, but was a little big overall. So I’d recommend sizing down in regular sizes, or sizing up in petite.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries
Ruffle Drawstring Romper (on sale for $39!) | Watch

Loft makes great shorts, especially for those of you who don’t love yourself in shorts. (Did that make sense?!) They are really thick and sturdy, and come in more modest lengths. These are the 4-inch inseam, and run true-to-size. The tee is really soft with a fun open tulip hem in the back.

Fit Tip: The top is an xs, and shorts size 0.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

I don’t usually gravitate to drop-waist dresses, but am always pulled to stripes. This dress is a soft, stretchy knit, making it super comfortable, and the horizontal stripe helps define the waist for a more flattering fit.
Fit Tip: It runs big and long, this is a petite XS.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

The way racer back tops curve around the shape of the shoulder make them the most flattering fit for tanks, and this is a good one! Thick material, soft with just enough stretch, and available in tons of colors. And the shorts…darling stripe and tie-waist, plus fully lined! They have a nice drape to them, too, so they don’t cling to your thighs.

Fit Tip: Tank is xs, and shorts 0.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Usually I’d try a top like this without a bra (I’m not generally prepared with the proper undergarments for these mall trips!), but this one was much to sheer for that! The yellow embroidery was cute, but the fit a little boxy in my opinion.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

This is just a snap of what I wore that day.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Remember this dress from my Five Under $50? I just had to try it for myself…and it’s definitely a winner…especially for the price! So cute with wedges and a long pendant, or jean jacket and flat sandals.

Fit Tip: This brand runs a little small, so I sized up to a size small.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

More romper love…this one with a fun scalloped hem and sash at the neck. The waist is elastic, so it’s comfortable and can be adjusted to fall where you like it. It’s not lined, however, and the material a slightly thin crepe.
Fit Tip: This is the same brand as the floral swing dress, so I sized up to a small.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Stripes + $23…of course I was going to try it on! The bell shape is a fun twist on a standard striped tee, but I’d keep it paired with skinny jeans or fitted shorts.
Fit Tip: Runs large, I’m wearing an XS.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

I had high-hopes for this dress, but also pretty doubtful considering the brand is called Cheap Monday. Turns out it’s aptly named…while the pattern and shape is fun, the cotton was scratchy and thin.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

I’ve tried this side-slit tank before and liked it, but I think the brighter and darker colors are best…this ivory is just too sheer, and layering a cami under would disrupt the side-slits.
Fit Tip: Runs large, I’m wearing an XS.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you’ve seen this palm print dress a few times already. Palm print is everywhere right now, but this one has a fun twist with the pink. It feels sexy with the v-neck and strappy back, but the length keeps it from being too exposed. It comes in this cute jungle print, and several solids, too.
Fit Tip: It’s definitely low-cut on top, so probably not a good option for the busty girls. I’m wearing a UK4 (fits like a US 0/2). I probably could have sized down one for the top, but it would have pulled around my bum.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Mr. SP really liked this dress, and I think after a good steam, I’d like it a lot more, too. The tie allows you to customize the fit to your chest, and it’s fully-lined.
Fit Tip: Runs true-to-size, I’m wearing an xs.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

With the long flights, I was looking for a super comfortable dress that would allow me stretch out, but still keep me covered. This racerback fit the bill, but I didn’t love the figure-hugging shape, combined with the midi-length, on me. For you taller girls, scoop it up now!! It’s available in lots of great colors and stripes.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but now that I think about it, I probably would love this sized up to a small, for a more forgiving fit. #agirlsgottaeat

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries
Racerback Midi Dress (some colors on sale for 50% off!)

Next I tried this racerback dress, in a more flattering length, and forgiving drawstring waist. It’s a little thicker cotton, but still soft…but I thought the solid gray looked a bit like pajamas. Which is what I want it to feel like, just not look like.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a petite XS, and it’s a tad shorter than a traditional maxi dress.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

I found the best of both worlds with the striped version of the same dress! Super comfy, fully covered, and also easy to style for cute street-wear. #traveluniformnailed

This denim shirtdress has real potential, but the fit was a little tight on me, and the material thinner than I liked. The pockets are fun, but also positioned right at the hip…likely a good iron would fix all that though.

Fit Tip: My regular size was a tad tight across the bum and shoulders, so I’d size up one, or even two, for a more traditional laid-back shirtdress fit. This is a size small.
Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

This shirtdress is in a thicker, more traditional chambray fabric, and I loved the color and chest pockets.
Fit Tip: My usual size was a bit tent-like and added bulk around the hips, so I’d size down one. Unless you’re going for that tent/mumu look. I’m wearing an xs.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Are you sick of off-the-shoulder yet? I just couldn’t help but try them…so many cute options right now! Including this lace version which fit comfortably on the arms, and stayed put. The body is fully-lined, so regular undergarments work great, and I love the delicate trim around the sleeve.
Fit Tip: I sized up to a small for a fit that drapes straight, rather than hugs my body.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Okay, I seriously had no idea I’d tried so many of these tops on this month!! But this one had me at yellow, and the thick elastic made it a comfy fit. Pretend I’m wearing it with jeans or shorts…that’s just the skirt I had on that day. Now that I see this pic, I’m wishing I’d brought this crisp top home.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a regular 0.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Another great pull-on skirt…which I love for travel. They are just as comfy as shorts, but more pulled-together. This one is so cute with a fitted tank (or maybe the pineapple tee!?), or button-down shirt tied at the waist. I’ll wear it with wedges, flat sandals, and sneakers.

Fit Tip: I prefer these type of skirts to fit at my natural waist (belly-button), so I size down. This is a 00.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

We’re coming to the end…stay with me!!! I’m obsessed with this tee…superbly soft, with just enough scoop to the neck. Also available in tons of great colors and stripes. These jean shorts fit really well, too, with no butt cheeks hanging out the back.
Fit Tip: I sized up one on the shorts and tee in this pic, and am wearing a 27 and small, respectively.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

And finally, I have this linen popover in white, and wore it to death last year…with jeans, shorts, skirts, and even as a swimsuit coverup. I love the popover style, and roll sleeves.

Fit Tip: It runs true-to-size, but it also meant to be a relaxed fit…this is an xs.

I love all your posts! I hope y'all have a wonderful trip. I didn't know you had an incident on a previous trip. I had one of those too. And it is yucky. Actually a couple times. The doctor said mine was kind of a sitting down "faint". It looked like a seizure. One of the things to be careful of is eating too much on a plane. I saw where your business class meal was too large, especially no chicken!!! I had eaten a piece of pizza before. The doctor said that all the blood goes from your head to your stomach to try to digest the food. Since you are not moving much on the plane and the altitude it makes you dizzy & sick. He said that I should eat very light if at all, like yogurt & crackers & water. Maybe you could have had a little of that wine with a cracker! Anyway, after ambulance, MRI's etc, luckily it was the same as you. We just have to be more careful. Enjoy your wonderful trip and be safe!
