Dressing Room Diaries | Swimsuit Edition

Happy Friday, friends, and cheers to the weekend! Do you have any fun plans? The weather has been crazy-hot lately, so you’ll probably find me bobbing in the pool with a giant Arnold Palmer and my Kindle (it’s water-resistant and great in bright light!).

I’ve been reading ‘I’m Still Here,’ and am in love with the author. I’ll give a full review in my next book post, along with everything else I’ve read lately. I also ordered several outdoor games from my Backyard Staycation post (find that HERE), to make our summer weekends at home more fun, so we’re excited to get out and play.

Today I’ve got a fun Dressing Room Diaries for you… and it’s dedicated to swimsuits! Y’all have been asking for new styles, so I ordered a ton, and am reviewing my favorites. I included something for every body type and comfort level, and most are around $30! All are great quality unless I indicate otherwise.

You know the drill with Dressing Room Diaries… it’s real life, real girl, real body… and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model. So let’s get started!

Fit Note: I’m 5’4″-ish, 120 pounds-ish (or at least I was pre-quarantine!), with a slight pear shape. My usual size is XS/0, but I always size up one in swimwear. I also have a long torso, so usually size up twice in one-pieces.

 

One Piece Swimsuits //

We’ll start with one of my favorites… I love the deep v and flirty ruffle, but the padded bra and tie provide extra support. The full coverage across the bum keeps it from being too sassy, too. I’m obsessed with this aqua color, but it comes in a slew of options. Plus, you have to see the back!!

And I can’t go any further without talking about this hat…and of course my beloved Budha Bangles! I literally did a happy dance when I found this new hat!!! It’s the absolute perfect shape and looks amazing on! Seriously looks like a $100 hat, but for under $20.

I likely wouldn’t pack it because I wouldn’t want to ruin the shape, so I’ll keep it at home with me. I’m wearing it in every picture below, so you can see the fit and style.

As for the bangle set…you know I’m obsessed, I’ve worn them pretty much non-stop for the last three summers! They add so much style to every outfit, and I especially love them with swimsuits. They’re lightweight and all-weather, so you can wear them in the pool or ocean with no tarnishing.

This suit is a similar style, but with less of a v-neck for a more modest fit. There’s no shelf-bra, but it is padded and fully-lined. The bum is full coverage and higher in the back. Tons of fun colors on this one, too.

I was surprised by how much I love this suit… but it’s definitely a keeper for me! My chest is one of my hardest-hit areas for sunspots, so I jump at the chance to keep it covered, while still looking stylish. The black band placed high on the waist creates a longer leg line, and the stripes draw your eye up. It’s open in the back to keep it from being too stuffy, but has full coverage. It’s fully lined with removable pads, too.

This one-shoulder cutie has over 2,000 5-star reviews, so it’s no surprise I love it, too. It’s one of those suits I refer to as ‘locked & loaded’… nothing is spilling out of this one! Fully-lined with built-in tummy control and ruching, it creates a slimming silhouette while staying firmly in place. It comes in tons of color and patterns, and would be so cute paired with a pull-on skirt for an easy pool-to-lunch look.

Fit Tip: It runs small, I’m wearing size 6…so size up two from your clothes size, and one from your swim size.

I was unsure about the unusual neckline of this one when I ordered it, but fell hard as soon as I saw it on. Mr. SP happened to walk in and I was even more surprised by how much he loved it, too! The straps are soft and stretchy, so it fits comfortably around the neck, with mesh cut-outs placed high on the waist for a long and lean line. The bum is full-coverage and it’s lined with built-in cups and shelf support.

Another awesome ‘locked & loaded’ find… this suit has over 6,000 5-star reviews! It is a super-flattering fit on all body types, and extra comfortable for lounging or being active. The high-neck, shelf-bra, and pads provide great coverage, lift, and support, while the deep-v makes it sassy. The ruched torso accentuates curves, while smoothing over the tummy area. And of course, full-coverage bum!

I actually found this suit at Loft, and am pretty impressed with their swimwear! I love the contrasting patterns of this one, creating a longer leg line. The padded top has good support with adjustable straps, and torso has subtle ruching for a smoother fit. The material is soft and sturdy, with full-coverage bum.

They don’t come much preppier than this seersucker-style suit! I’m always a sucker for blue and white stripes, and this one is no different. The top has a full underwire, and the pads are in a built-in cup that create a more rounded shape (rather than a uni-boob). The wide straps are comfortable with a full-coverage bum. This suit is incredible quality that will last for years.

Okay… sassy alert on this one! Y’all know I love my plunging v-neck swimsuit from J.Crew, but I’m the first to admit it’s a ‘lounging with your hubs’ suit… since there’s no support or padding, ha! This suit has all the same great sex-appeal, but has built-in pads to give ‘the girls’ an added shape and coverage! The back dips low and it’s rather cheeky, so I’d reserve this one for getaways with Mr. SP!

Okay, our final one-piece… the infinitely-chic Trina Turk bandeau! The pattern is incredibly flattering for creating an hourglass shape, and comes with a detachable strap. The back has a surprising cut-out shape and full coverage bum.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing size 4, but it’s a little short for me. I’d size up again if you’re long-torsoed.

Two-Piece Swimsuits //

Funny enough, a few years ago I’d never even consider a high-waisted swim bottom, and now it’s literally my favorite style! There’s something so freeing about having your entire tummy area tucked in! Plus, by raising the waistline, you create a longer leg-line… that’s a win-win in my book!

This two-piece has a fun French flair, with a tie-front top and flutter sleeves in cute stripes. The bottoms are sturdy and slimming with ruching across the front and a modest leg.

I discovered Summersalt earlier this year and it’s quickly become one of my faves for incredible fit and quality. This two-piece is so sporty and fun, with a cute color-block and athletic fit. Great for playing, everything stays in place with a padded top and mid-rise full-coverage bottoms. Check out all the great color combos!

I love the style and color of this suit, but the fit was a miss for me. It’s thick and ribbed, so a little different from traditional swim lycra, but great quality. The top is padded and both pieces are fully-lined.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing size small, but the top was a little tight and the bottoms a little big. So for the first time in my life, I’d need to size up in the top and down in the bottom, ha!

Okay, I absolutely love the style of this suit, but it’s not a good fit for curvy and athletic shapes. The textured material has very little stretch, so it cuts across that spot where the bum hits the thigh…not a good look for me! If you’re willowy with fewer curves, it would be darling for you!

Okay, this one is for my bikini girls! Of course I adore the blue and white stripes, and it has the cutest criss-cross back. The top is padded and lined for a supportive ‘bra-like’ fit, but the bottoms are low! It’s not cheeky on me, but it certainly couldn’t dip any lower, if you know what I’m saying. Regardless, I kept it for family time in our own pool because it’s just so cute!

Okay, that’s it for new swim finds… let’s chat about the styles I already own and love! You may recognize most because I’ve been wearing them for awhile. Starting with this orange malt-pattern one-piece. It’s one of the most comfortable suits I own, with a flattering v-neck and pattern-mix, and cute criss-cross back.

Doesn’t this one look so J.Crew? More blue and white stripes (I told you I’m a sucker for them!), with a flirty and feminine ruffle trip, criss-cross back, and full-coverage bum. I love the contrasting stripe to create the look of a ‘belt’, carving out more of a waist and longer legs. I honestly can’t imagine this one not looking great on every body type!

An oldie but goodie for sure… I’ve been wearing this one-piece for years! It’s so soft and stretchy, with the cutest palm print. It’s just sassy enough to be sexy, but still manages to be comfortable. The V is deep, but the cups are padded with a seam to provide some support. The back is a touch cheeky, but nothing inappropriate. I’m crazy about the high ruffle, too.

The first Summersalt suit I found, and fell madly in love with. It’s crazy cute and chic, but also fully ‘locked & loaded’! It has a built-in shelf bra and pads, with full coverage bum, and comes in a bunch of great color blocked options.

And finally, one of my favorite swim finds this year… the leopard one-piece! It plunges deep, but the band creates support and pads give you a little coverage. The straps are adjustable too, and the bum is covered.

Beach & Pool Accessories //

Okay, now let’s chat accessories! You won’t catch me with makeup or cute hair at the pool or beach, but I will always have a few chic accessories to make the look more stylish.

This bag and tassel clip are my go-to for holding all the essentials. It’s lined and flexible, and folds flat for packing or storage. SuperGoop is my sunscreen of choice, and I just discovered this Body Blur skin finish… it’s like makeup for your skin, perfect for covering crazy tan lines or adding a little instant color.
