Dressing Room Diaries - Hi Sugarplum!

Happy Friday, friends, and cheers to the weekend!!! We have big plans tonight, then don’t have a single thing for the next two days, and I couldn’t be more excited about it! My DVR has the latest season of The Bachelor on it, so maybe I’ll binge the last few episodes?! Hometown dates and beyond are the best part to me, anyway. Are you watching? Should I skip it this season?

Today I’m excited to share a new Dressing Room Diaries with Mama Sugarplum, and it’s a GOOD one. So many incredible new pieces for the transitional season. I grouped these posts by retailer for awhile, but here’s the thing… I work really hard to find the absolute cutest things from each spot, regardless of price point, and I’d hate for you to overlook something because of a pre-conceived retailer opinion! So this one is back to grouping by clothing category… let me know what you think.

You know the drill with Dressing Room Diaries… the shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, and I’m in desperate need of a hairbrush. But it’s real life, real girl, real clothes… and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model. So let’s get started!

Fit Note: I’m 5’4″-ish, 120 pounds-ish (depending on the week’s taco count), with a slight pear shape. My usual size is XS/0. Mama Sugarplum is 5’1″, with an hourglass figure, and her usual size is XS/2p.

Denim //

We’re going to start with denim, because I’m super pumped about this new jean!! It’s from one of my faves, Wit & Wisdom, and in a great new light wash for spring. It has the amazing Ab-solution Panels that slim and lift the booty. Plus the super-comfy control waistband! They’re so flattering and extremely comfortable, with a great denim feel, but still significant stretch. This light wash will be in heavy rotation going into spring!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 0-petite on the left, and regular o on the right. They’re ankle-length, but the petite provides more of a cropped fit for those of us under 5’4″.

Shirts & Blouses //

It’s hard to beat a classic button-up, and gingham is my weakness! These shirts are really well-made in a thick cotton poplin with just a touch of stretch. They keep their shape well, and don’t wrinkle easily. So cute with floral skirts or layered under sweaters and vests. Gingham never goes out of style and works year-round!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS, but size up if in-between as it runs narrow through the shoulder.

This woven top is a workwear staple in a modern shape. A lightweight, but not sheer, top, it pairs beautifully with skirts and trousers, under blazers, or simply with your favorite ankle jeans and flats. I love the flap pockets and princess sleeve.

I love a good popover shirt, and chambray is the quintessential spring fabric! This pullover style shirt is a great weight, with a soft, washed feel. It’s structured, yet relaxed, and looks cute worn out or tucked. Pair it with white jeans, skirts and shorts, and either sneakers, sandals or even wedges.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but would prefer a size up for more relaxed fit through the shoulders and body.

This top had me dreaming of warm weather and sunshine! Love the shades of pink, blue and lavender… so fresh together! The embellishment makes it feel a little fancy, and the chiffon body keeps it loose and breezy.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS

Embellished Top | Light Wash Jeans

This top is a sweet combo of lace and cotton, and super comfy while looking a little fancy. The shade is more celery in person (the website looks more blue), and it’s cute with regular or white denim. It’s a little cropped, but long enough to tuck. I’d love it tucked into a full skirt for a flirty spring style.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but size up if you’re in between.

Graphic Tees //

I thought this tee was fairly appropriate for a shopping day with Mama Sugarplum! Especially since I’m her only child, ha! It’s lightweight and soft, with a silky feel. The letters are a little faded giving the tee a vintage feel.

How cute is this embroidered sweatshirt!? I love the ‘Bonjour’ in a rainbow of colors and the thick sweatshirt material. The bright white and colors make it a great transitional piece for the chilly days of early spring.

I have these shorts in a range of colors, I grab a new pair every year. They fit great and have a perfect inseam that’s just right.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small sweatshirt and size 2 shorts (could probably take a 0, but I prefer them loose and on my hips a little)

These tees are anything but basic, with so many darling prints and stripes for spring. Choose from crewneck or v-neck, both have a comfortable fit and well-made soft cotton blend.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing small in both.

Pullovers, Sweaters, & Jackets //

This twill jacket has been around HSP for a few years… it’s hard to beat the quality and fit for the price! I love this new camo print, it’s a little more subtle and the shades of green make it a perfect neutral for so many combos. It’s sturdy and well-made, with a hidden drawstring for a more flattering and feminine fit through the waistline. A great spring and fall jacket!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing small in the tank, it’s very slim, and XS in the jacket.

I have this mock neck sweater in two colors, and now these stripes! It’s just a great basic sweater that’s super soft and comfy, and so easy to throw on with boots, flats or sneakers. The other stripe option is adorable, too!

Spring is about layers, and this lightweight cardigan easily pairs with everything from tees to dresses. Super soft with open drape and side pockets, it covers the bum and comes in several colors.

Spring Dresses & Jumpsuits //

Now let’s move on to dresses… I’ve had tons of requests for new spring options, and y’all went bonkers when I posted a sneak peek of this one on Instagram Stories! The pattern is so fun and unexpected, and the colors gorgeous for a range of occasions this season. The material is a stretchy poly-blend that skims the body and has fun movement. I love the square neck and flutter sleeves, too.

Colorful Dress

This v-neck jumpsuit was an unexpected find at under $30!! The lightweight, breezy fabric moves beautifully, with a flattering tie-waist and wide leg. The cropped length is great for sandals, wedges, or even dressed up with heels. The v-neck is deep, but still bra-friendly, and the entire combo is chic and super comfortable.

I was first drawn to the fun colorblocking of this navy fit-and-flare dress, but fell in love after trying it on. Made of a thick and stretchy textured knit, it hugs the body while smoothing it out. The cut of the shoulders is extremely flattering, and the length appropriate for a range of occasions from church to showers to work.

This multi-patterned wrap dress was an instant favorite for me! I love the colors and fun print, not to mention the flattering shape. The handkerchief hem adds a playful vibe, and makes it fun with heels or flat sandals.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small, I always need to size up one in this brand.

Patterned Dress

This fit-and-flare dress is all kinds of flattering! It’s a classic shape and fit, perfect for office to evening, with a fun flounce hem and ruffled neckline. It’s flirty, yet polished, and would be a new closet staple.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 2p would prefer a little more length from a regular 0. It’s true to size for the brand.

Long Sleeved Ruffle Dress (40% off!)

This dress had me at ruffle details! The swirling ruffles make such a gorgeous statement, but don’t overwhelm your frame. The chiffon is fully-lined and falls short of the knee for a flirty length. This is the perfect wedding guest dress, and so chic paired with nude heels.

This fit-and-flare dress is classic, yet modern, with lace overlay and asymmetrical hem. The body is fully-lined to the knee, with a slight flutter sleeve. The overlay is sturdy and not too delicate, and the deep navy is fun for spring.

Workout Wear //

How about some workout wear? With summer around the corner, I’m trying to ramp-up my routine… and cute new pieces always make it a little easier. This high-neck bra was a favorite find, and I’ve already worn it to Orange Theory twice! If you watch my Instagram Stories though, you may remember my dressing room episode where I got ‘stuck’ in a sports bra and almost had a full-blown panic attack! (I’m extremely clausterphobic.) Well, this bra was the culprit, but turns out I just needed to size up, ha!

I love the high neck and longer length, perfect for pairing with high-waisted leggings without showing too much mid-section, or layering under a tank. It’s breathable with built-in cups and good support.

I’m obsessed with the leggings, too! Made of a new fabric specific for sweaty workouts, they dry quickly and don’t show through. They’re buttery-soft and smooth, with a high-waist that says put, and a cropped length.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 6 bra and 2 legging.

Here’s the same combo with a racerback tank. It’s lightweight and flowy, with a pleated back and loose shape.

Another great combo, these leggings are made of the same sweat-wicking material, but offer a more compression fit and side pocket (perfect for phones!). The tank is silky and light, and can be worn flowy and open (great for yoga) or tied for a closer fit.

Pajamas //

Okay, let’s end it with the cutest pajama set for spring! I love the soft jersey knit, cropped pant, and darling prints!!

I shared this softer-than-soft lounge set last week, and had to order the charcoal gray for myself! I’ve been wearing it non-stop around the house, but you could definitely add a jean jacket and sneakers for an easy day style. It’s the delicious Signature-Soft cotton fleece that Lou & Grey is famous for, with a cute jogger-style pant with tapered leg and back pockets.
