Happy Friday, friends, and cheers to the weekend! Is there a better weekend than Mother’s Day?! I’m so looking forward to calling the shots for the next two days…which means family movie night, lots of togetherness, foot rubs, and tacos both days! Mom is King this weekend, baby!!
Thanks so much for the love on this week’s Mother’s Day posts, including Pretty in Pink with Mama Sugarplum and Teen Styles with the Little Miss. And of course, our whirlwind trip to NYC celebrating them both! It’s hard to sit on opposite sides of the computer sometimes, so I always love hearing from you!
Today I’m excited to share a new Dressing Room Diaries, and it’s a good one with so many great finds for the upcoming season! We’d planned on Mama Sugarplum joining the fun, but nasty weather kept her home this week. But I did get Little Miss in the dressing room for a few more teen ideas!
You know the drill with Dressing Room Diaries…I hunt down some of the cutest items from my favorite retailers, and review them for you. As usual, the shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, and I’m in desperate need of a hairbrush. But it’s real life, real girl, real clothes…and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model. So let’s get started!
Sidenote: I’m 5’4″ and 120-ish pounds, and usually wear a 0/XS.
TOPS //
I’m always looking for fun, easy tops this time of year…the kind that take your casual jeans to the next level, and man did I hit the jackpot!! Let’s start with one of my fave finds of the week, this darling embroidered top with exaggerated flutter sleeves. The cotton is crisp and the embroidery and trim are beautifully sewn. It’s a great mid-weight and not sheer at all. It’d be so cute fully-tucked into high-waist jeans or a skirt, and even with cut-offs.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS
Embroidered Flutter Sleeve Top | White Jeans | Sandals
Another fun option, this one combines a pleated detail with the embroidered trim. I love the soft blue and tiered peplum hem and sleeves. It’s soft and light, but not at all sheer. I’d also dress it up with these white trousers (currently on sale!).
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small, but need an XS. So true to size.
Embroidered Peplum Top (also here) | White Jean Shorts | Sandals | Earrings
The details are hard to see in this pic (darn rain!!), but this top is a woven crepe material that has the sweetest smocked neck and dropped waist. I love the soft flutter trim at the arms, neck and hem, too. Pair it with trousers for work, under a blazer, or even with heels for a chic night-out style.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a size 2
Flounce Hem Woven Top | White Jeans | Sandals
A girl’s closet can never have too much chambray! It’s so classic and pairs with virtually every color. This cotton top is a sturdy (but not stiff) material, with cute ties on the sleeves and a relaxed body. Wear it with jeans or shorts, or even tucked in a skirt.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, and it’s slightly oversized.
Chambray Tie-Sleeve Top | White Jeans | Sandals
Two more adorable flutter sleeve tops, both crazy affordable! Love the tiered shoulder and eyelet detail of the black one, and the square neck is a fresh, unexpected shape. The purple has the same fun sleeves, with a soft finish and keyhole neckline. Both can be zhushed-up, and look way more expensive in person!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small in both, but I always size up one in this brand.

Continuing on the tops train (I told you I hit the jackpot!!)…adore this v-neck top in a soft crepe-style material, with tiered flutter hem. Plus, the color is perfection! I’d pair it with jeans or wedges for a night out, too.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS.
Layered Peplum Top | White Jeans | Sandals
My photo doesn’t do this color justice, but it’s pretty much the perfect golden yellow. It’s super soft and fully-lined, with a sweet pleated trim at the arm and neck. It would easily dress up with trousers or a skirt for work.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS
Pleated Neck Top | White Jeans | Sandals
Okay, let’s talk t-shirts! I found some cute graphic tees, so fun worn alone or layered under blazers and jean jackets. The ‘Ice Cream’ is a little on the thin side, and more ivory than white, but the colors are fun. The ‘Long Weekend’ is thick and soft, and great quality.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS in both.

SHORTS //
Meet my summer mom-uniform! I live in soft, relaxed combos and this tank is perfection! It’s super soft with just enough scoop neck and bra-friendly straps. It’s also longer than most, giving you options for tucking, wearing out, or knotting. It comes in tons of amazing colors and stripes, and under $20!
I now have these shorts in three colors, too. I love the pull-on style and relaxed linen fit.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS in both. The tank is an oversized fit, so size down if you prefer it fitted.
Scoopneck Tank | Linen Drawstring Shorts | Sandals | Earrings | Ring
This combo is all about the top and shorts. And can you even stand the cuteness of this top?! Crisp cotton poplin with embroidered and pom-pom trim…I’m obsessed! And if possible, I love it even more paired with these chambray high-waist shorts! They have a paper-bag waist with tie, and a longer inseam. So cute with all your fitted tees and tanks.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a US2 top and US4 shorts (but needed the US2).
Pom-Pom Trim Top | Chambray Paper-Bag Shorts | Earrings | Sandals | Ring
Another graphic tee and short combo…this tee with a cute little cap sleeve and colorful rainbow of greetings. The cotton is soft and thick, and the styling options are unlimited with this one! I paired it with twill shorts in the chicest pattern, with a blend of pinks, orange, and yellow.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS tee and size 2 shorts, but needed a 4 (they’re pulling a bit across the bum).

PANTS //
Okay, I’ve got some amazing jeans and the cutest pant for you! Let’s start with jeans! These have a crazy-flattering high waist with button fly, and are a thick, sturdy denim…but still incredibly soft and super stretchy. They almost form a second skin, but since they’re so thick, they hold everything in place and smooth out the bumps! They have an exposed hem and medium, non-distressed wash.
The tee is great quality cotton, with a little rolled sleeve.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small tee, and 26-petite jeans. I love the cropped fit for sandals and wedges this season
Striped Tee | Button-Fly Jeans (also here) | Sandals
Same jeans, but with another amazing top! (I’m on a roll!) Obsessed with the oversized fit and popover style, with crisp collar and drop sleeve. It’s longer and billowy, without overwhelming my frame. Just something so effortlessly cool about it.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS top and 26-petite jean.
Oversized Popover Top | Button-Fly Jeans | Sandals
Hello pink pants, where have you been all my life?! The perfect not-too-sweet pink, these linen-blend pants are a great higher rise, with slightly wide leg and cropped fit. They’re fully-lined and look great with heels, wedges, or flat sandals.
I paired them with the sweetest eyelet trim top with puffed sleeves. It’s crisp and light, and so easily styled for work, weekend, parties, and more.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS top and regular 2 pant. I ordered a 4-petite to see if I prefer a shorter length.
Eyelet Top | Pants | Sandals
Another darling pant option, these wide leg pants are a flowy crepe with tie waist and wide legs. They easily dress up or down, and come in great solids and patterns. (I love the pink floral!) I paired them with this thick cotton tank with ric-rac trim.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS pant, but if in between, size down. The tank is true, I’m wearing XS

DRESSES //
Okay, before we get into dresses, I’ve got a fun romper in the cutest print! It’s racerback style with a keyhole front (it buttons if you prefer), and elastic waist. It’s super lightweight, and a little on the thin side, but not sheer. Definitely a casual piece with sandals or flip-flops.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small
True story…this dress was the last piece I tried on, and I never took it off!! It was so soft and comfortable, I just left it on for the rest of the day and night. Plus, it’s crazy cute and so flattering. The alternating stripes create a slimming effect, and the layered ruching has a way of concealing problem areas.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS.
Striped Bandage Dress | Sandals
Another super comfy option, this midi tank dress is made of the softest jersey knit, with a flattering muscle neckline. The high side slit keeps it from being restrictive while you walk, and makes it a little sassy. It comes in solids and stripes, and at only $22, I kind of want every color!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small for a less body-con fit.
Striped Midi Tube Dress | Sandals | Bracelet
How could I not try this linen shift dress…it had me at pink and orange! The embroidery is beautifully sewn, and the linen is soft, yet sturdy (and not sheer). It has cute pouch pockets in the front, which means the dress lies flat along the hips!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a size 2, petite sizing available, too.
Embroidered Shift Dress | Sandals
Clearly I have this thing for super-soft jersey knit tank dresses! And this one had me at pink stripes! The little cap sleeve and back stripe detail are so cute, too. This one is also a tad fitted through the shoulder and bust with a slight a-line shape, so it’s not shapeless like many dresses in this style.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS
Striped T-Shirt Dress | Sandals
I needed this dress for Cinco de Mayo! But no matter, it’s darling all season long!! You know I love ric-rac detail, and one-shoulder styles are definitely having a moment this season. This is the navy blue, but you have to see the new periwinkle combo they just added!
Fit Tip: It runs large, so size down one. I’m wearing XXS.
Ric-Rac One-Shoulder Dress | Sandals
Lunch with girlfriends, school parties, even errands…this dress is so darling for all your fun plans, but comfy enough for every day. Like your favorite popover top, but in a longer swing dress. It’s a sturdy linen-cotton blend, that doesn’t wrinkle easily.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS
PAJAMAS //
Okay, rounding out my finds with two sets of pajamas, perfect for warmer weather. This set is silky soft jersey, super lightweight, with a sweet lace trim.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS. Usually I size up in pajamas, but didn’t need to with these.
Super lightweight with a classic blue and white stripe, this short set has an elastic waist and the cutest eyelet detail on the back.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS.
TEEN STYLES //
Wrapping up this week’s DRD with Little Miss’s finds!! She’s outgrown much of her Spring and Summer wardrobe, so we’re slowing adding new pieces. She scouted these two outfits all on her own, and deemed them perfect for 7th/8th grade! Clearly she’s a blogger-pro!! #thattoe
Fit Tip: She’s petite for her age, and wearing a 10 in everything, which is true for most brands for her.
Striped Top | High Waist Jeans (only $25!) | Twist Front Top | Lace Bralette (a huge hit!) | Striped Pants
Okay, that’s it for today, I hope you found some new goodies! And if you missed our last installment of Dressing Room Diaries, check it out here!
This scoop tank and this striped flare dress tied as the overwhelming favorites, with this wrap shirtdress a close second. And if you’re looking for Amazon finds, check out my April Fashion Faves here.
What’s your favorite from this round of Dressing Room Diaries? What categories do you like seeing most…or would you like to see more of?! Happy weekend, lovebugs…and lots of love to all the mamas out there! I hope you’re spoiled with love, attention, and a day off!
Crap… my wallet cannot support you finding any more cute finds!
LOL, oops!! I’m thrilled I featured some things you like!! Happy weekend!
How tall is your daughter?
Hi Nadine! She’s about 4’10”
How the heck do you take mirror selfies when wearing T shirts with words without the words reversed? Double mirrors? Some magic hack? Just wondering…
LOL — I just flip the photo vertically!!
Hi Cassie! Do the Caslon linen shorts wrinkle fairly easily? And that striped bandage dress fits your *perfectly*!
Thanks, Caroline
Hi Caroline! The shorts do wrinkle, but in an all-over, textured kind of way. Does that make sense?
Thanks as always for the post! Love these try on style posts. My favorite is the bandage dress…but my size isn’t available! So bummed. :0(
Also – Your daughter is absolutely adorable! Every time I see a pic of her I can’t help but smile. She has such a cute face and infectious smile! She looks like a very happy, sweet girl. What a blessing! ❤
Thanks so much, Debbie!! I’ll be sure to share your kind words with her!! xo. C
Gosh, those shorts (Chambray, paper-bag) could be worn w/a dozen different colors/tops and look great. They hang and fit beautifully. Versatile enough to be worn to a whole lotta places.
Love your DRDs and would love more teen girl clothes suggestions. I have an almost 13 yr old, 5’ tall and it’s hard to find clothes that fit that she approves of. 🙂
so sad that those polka dot pajamas are sold out and extra small! Really cute!
Oh shoot, that was fast! I’ll keep an eye out for restocks!
Hi Cassie. I emailed you couple of days ago asking for your contractor’s number. Could you please share? We are getting ready to remodel our kitchen and what he did with yours is just beautifull!!! Thank you!
Hi Joanna! Sorry for the delay, I took the weekend off to spend time with the family for Mother’s Day. Unfortunately, my contractor is retiring this summer and no longer accepting new jobs! Good luck with your new project!
I was doing a “quick” return at Nordstrom and spotted that Rick rack tee on my way out the door. Back to the register I went🤣🤣🤣 Great post. Hope it warms up in CLE soon so I can wear some of it😁
Yep, it’s a super cute detail and so versatile!! Thrilled you liked the post!
I can only find this striped bandage dress in this color and for $64. Would love to see the other color options and be able to get it for $22. Help please?
Hi Mary! Those are two different dresses from different brands and retailers. The shorter ruched one is Nordstrom, and sold out pretty quickly. The longer midi dress is from Old Navy! Both great dresses! Hope that helps! xo. C
