Happy almost-Friday, friends! I’m taking the weekend off to celebrate Easter with my family, so bringing you this week’s Dressing Room Diaries a day early! Not only do the kids have a 4-day weekend, but for the first time since I can remember, we have no plans!!! #praise
I hope to tackle a few projects around the house, mostly just cleaning and organizing, and I honestly couldn’t be more excited about it. It feels good to be home (if only for a weekend…stay tuned for what’s up next!)
Thanks so much for the love on this week’s post, Seven Ways to Style a Trench and yesterday’s 10 Affordable Spring Combos. And don’t forget, Nordstrom’s huge Spring Sale ends this weekend. Find my top picks here. It’s hard to sit on opposite sides of the computer sometimes, so I always love hearing from you!
Today I’m excited to share a new Dressing Room Diaries, and it’s a good one with so many great finds for the upcoming season! Plus, Mama Sugarplum is along for the fun!
You know the drill with Dressing Room Diaries…I hunt down some of the cutest items from my favorite retailers, and review them for you. As usual, the shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, and I’m in desperate need of a hairbrush. But it’s real life, real girl, real clothes…and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model. So let’s get started!
Sidenote: I’m 5’4″ and 120-ish pounds, and usually wear a 0/XS. Mama Sugarplum is 5’1″ with an hourglass figure, and usually wears an XS/2p.
Tops //
Let’s start with the return of one of my fave tanks of all time…this scoop neck. It’s a silky cotton-blend that wears and feels so good, plus the perfect deep scoop (but still bra-friendly!). As soon as it returned this year, I grabbed the black, making my collection complete! The earrings are a little extra, and I’m totally okay with it. They’re light as a feather and add so much fun to any outfit, especially basic combos like this.
Fit Tip: I wear a US 2 in the tank, but go up one if you’re busty.
Scoop Tank | Statement Earrings | White Jeans | Sandals
The prettiest little lace top…fully-lined with sweet ruffles on the shoulder. Wear it out with jeans or pants, tuck it into skirts, or layer it under a jacket. So versatile! And 40% off!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a reg XS
This top was the first thing I grabbed in the store…I was drawn to the puff sleeve and boucle texture. The colors are soft pinks and blues, and the top is thick and structured. I’m crazy for the sleeve, giving it a feminine touch, perfect for work or weekend. 40% off this weekend!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a XS
Boucle Puff Sleeve Top | Sandals
I love a good muscle tank, and this one comes in great solids and stripes. The cotton is thick and stretchy, and not at all sheer.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS for a close fit.
Striped Muscle Tank (solids here) | White Jeans | Sandals
I reach for long-sleeve pullovers year-round, even Summer. I love them paired with cut-offs and flip-flops. This one is lightweight, with a cute neckline and tassel ties. The cotton is a little textured, for a relaxed, slub style.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but would prefer the fit of a small better.
Striped Pullover | White Jeans | Sandals | Necklace
How can you resist a graphic tee with a corgi in glasses?! So stinking cute!! The cotton is extra-soft, with a touch of stretch, and a shortened sleeve.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, but would prefer a size up for more shoulder room.
Puppy Graphic Tee | White Jeans | Sandals | Cuff
Fun tops are always a go-to this time of year…with jeans, shorts, and skirts. This mixed top has a cotton tee body, with crisp eyelet sleeves and back. The cotton is lightweight, but not sheer, and fits close through the body.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 2
Lace Back Top | Linen Shorts | Sandals | Cuff | Earrings
Shorts //
These pull-on shorts have been faves for a few years, and Mama Sugarplum was quick to grab the new olive shade. She’s paired them with a soft v-neck pullover for an easy and comfy style. The chambray are darling, and a great jean short alternative!
Fit Tip: We’re both wearing XS shorts. Her pullover is a small (size up one).
Lace Back Top | Sweater | Linen Shorts | Earrings | Cuff Bracelet | Sandals in ‘Makeup’ | Her Hoop Earrings | Her Wedges
A few more fun shorts options…both with a fun scallop hem. The white ones are a linen-blend with traditional zipper and tab closure. The white is a great weight and not sheer, but they also come in a ton of bright colors.
The chambray are a pull-on style with flat front and comfy elastic back. Both have pockets and fuller through the leg so there’s no pulling. The darling top is a lightweight cotton sweater, with the cutest pineapple embroidery! I’m crazy for the mix of colors, too.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 2 in the white shorts, XS in the pull-on, and XS sweater.
Pineapple Knit Pullover | White Scallop Shorts | Chambray Scallop Shorts
Bonjour to le weekend! No one does graphic tees better than J.Crew, and this one is so cute worn alone or peeking out from under a blazer. The striped shorts are a lightweight, crisp cotton, with tie-waist and longer inseam. They’re so much cuter in person than my crude iPhone pic! #trustme
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS tee, but brought home a small. The shorts are a 2, but I need a 0.
Weekend Graphic Tee | Tie-Waist Shorts | Sandals
Jumpsuits //
Let’s move along to the next category…jumpsuits! Y’all have been going cuckoo for these lately (find so many more in this post and this one), and I couldn’t be happier to keep flushing out the good ones! This one is a cotton-linen blend, so it’s light and soft with a little bit of texture. The faux-wrap style and tie waist give it a flattering fit, and the ruffle sleeves a flirty detail. It’s fully-lined, and even has pockets…all super impressive given the price!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS
Wide-Leg Jumpsuit | Earrings | Cuff Bracelet | Sandals
How could I not be drawn to bold, blue stripes and a halter neckline?! I love the contrasting direction of these stripes, and the crisp cotton poplin. The more fitted top is a nice balance to the wide legs, and the halter tie in the back gives it an extra dose of style. The stride is fairly long in this one, so a great find for you taller girls!
Fit Tip: I’m in a regular 0, but think I’d prefer the fit of a petite.
Striped Halter Jumpsuit | Wedges
Dresses //
Easter may be upon us, but there’s still a full season of weddings, parties, showers, brunches, graduations…you name it…and dresses will be in heavy rotation. This dress is a fine ribbed sweater knit, with lots of stretch, but thick enough to smooth over areas. It has a sweet scallop edge on the neck, sleeves and hem, and a flattering fit-and-flare shape.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small, but need an XS.
Fit and Flare Dress | Earrings | Cuff Bracelet | Necklace
Mama Sugarplum looking gorgeous in it! She loved the longer sleeves and modest hem.
Fit Tip: She’s wearing a small
Fit and Flare Dress | Hoop Earrings
Floral and flirty! This gorgeous bold floral is just as sassy as it is sweet. It’s hard to detect in the picture, but it hugs all your curves (especially cupping the bum) for a subtle hourglass fit. I love the racerback neckline and asymmetrical hem, too!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 0, but could use a 2…size up.
Floral Midi Dress | Earrings | Cuff Bracelet
Another flirty and sassy option…this deep navy has a waterfall ruffle edge, with a subtle flare at the hem. It’s a stretchy crepe, that’s thick and moves well. So pretty for summer weddings or cocktails.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 2, but need a 0 or 2p
Sheath Dress | Earrings | Cuff Bracelet | Necklace
But hello, Mama!! This dress was made for her! Such a gorgeous hourglass shape, and so classy.
Fit Tip: She’s wearing a regular 2
Floral Midi Dress | Sheath Dress | Earrings | Cuff Bracelet | Hoop Earrings
White eyelet is the epitome of Summer, and this dress is just begging for a party! The cotton is thick and substantial, without a lot of stretch. The cutouts are fun, and not too revealing. If you’d prefer a shorter length, it’s easily hemmed with the scalloped hem reattached.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 0
Eyelet Midi Dress | Earrings | Cuff Bracelet
These next two are my favorites of the batch…obviously they’re striped! This swing dress is a thick jersey knit with great movement and stretch. The diagonal stripes create a long, flattering shape that also give the illusion of a waist. I love it with sneakers, sandals, a jean jacket, over a swimsuit…so versatile!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a reg XS, but would size up for a touch more length. It’s also a great fit through the armpits.
Striped Swing Dress | Sandals | Necklace
Y’all…how stinking cute!!?? This dress is so fun and flattering, and perfect for a range of occasions. A super-thick Ponte knit, it’s got a lot of structure and stretch. The high-waistline gives you longer legs, and the slight fit-and-flare is a slimming shape. It even has pockets! Oh, and it’s 40% off!!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 0, but go up if you’re in-between.
Striped Fit-and-Flare Dress | Sandals
Looking for a dressier option, this lace overlay fit-and-flare is darling with flat sandals and a cardigan, or even heels and statement jewelry. Perfect versatile dress for so many occasions. It’s fully-lined with a well-made lace overlay, and faux-wrap top.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a regular 0.
Lace Fit-and-Flare Dress | Necklace
Smitten doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about this dress! Love the crisp cotton and wrap style for a chic and flattering fit. The tie creates a slim waistline, and the length makes it perfect for everything from church to afternoon parties. Expect to see this darling dress styled in a future post!
Fit Tip: It runs large, size down. I’m wearing a 00 #ridiculous
Summer called, and this is her defining dress! But really, how can you go wrong with pink gingham? It’s a crisp, lightweight cotton, with smocked back for a stretchy and comfy fit. The waist sits a little higher giving the illusion of a longer leg.
Fit Tip: Size down if you’re small-chested, I’m wearing XXS.
Swim //
Just a single swimsuit option for you this week, but it’s a good one! I’ve had requests for strapless suits (no tan lines!), and this one delivers! The bandeau style is lined and padded, with sturdy boning on the side to keep it’s shape and hold it firmly in place! The bottoms are full coverage and lined, as well. I love the blue stripes for a chic and sporty combo!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small in both pieces.
Bandeau Swim Top | Swim Bottoms
Pajamas //
I’m more of a cotton and jersey knit fan, but Mama Sugarplum loves silky pajamas! She loved these so much she tried to wear them home! #jk But there was definitely a lot of oohing and aahhing when she put them on. Plus, how cute is the floral print with contrasting piping?
Fit Tip: She’s wearing a small, and the leg is a little cropped (perfect for petites!).
The silky-soft feel of this jersey knit set is more my style, and this set is equal parts cute and crazy comfortable!! So stretchy and soft, with loose elastic waist and a little lace trim.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS
